Eight billionaires 'as rich as world's poorest half'
Posted by: 1984hasarrived - 01-16-2017, 04:56 AM - Forum: Social Unrest and Justice - Replies (1)

Ok, so let's imagine that Oxfam got it wrong, just for the sake of argument, shall we?

Instead the top 10 billionaires in the world have as much wealth as 50% of the planet - does that sound any better? Or 20 billionaires.

The fact remains the same - there is a huge imbalance of wealth.  The number on the left of the equation is irrelevant, even if it is 100 billionaires has more wealth than 50% of the world's poorest population.

"But look the poor people aren't starving any more, they are just poor now".  Well that is a real comfort to the 3.6 billion poor people in the world.  I'm sure they feel much better living in their hovel, with water dripping through the roof knowing that they are not going to go hungry.

Quote:The world's eight richest individuals have as much wealth as the 3.6bn people who make up the poorest half of the world, according to Oxfam.

The charity said its figures, which critics have queried, came from improved data, and the gap between rich and poor was "far greater than feared".

Oxfam's report coincides with the start of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Mark Littlewood, of the Institute of Economic Affairs, said Oxfam should focus instead on ways to boost growth.

"As an 'anti-poverty' charity, Oxfam seems to be strangely preoccupied with the rich," said the director-general of the free market think tank.

For those concerned with "eradicating absolute poverty completely", the focus should be on measures that encourage economic growth, he added.

Ben Southwood, head of research at the Adam Smith Institute, said it was not the wealth of the world's rich that mattered, but the welfare of the world's poor, which was improving every year.

"Each year we are misled by Oxfam's wealth statistics. The data is fine - it comes from Credit Suisse - but the interpretation is not."

'Elite gathering'
The annual event in Davos, a Swiss ski resort, attracts many of the world's top political and business leaders.

Katy Wright, Oxfam's head of global external affairs, said the report helped the charity to "challenge the political and economic elites".

"We're under no illusions that Davos is anything other than a talking shop for the world's elite, but we try and use that focus," she added.

UK economist Gerard Lyons said focusing on extreme wealth "does not always give the full picture" and attention should be paid to "making sure the economic cake is getting bigger".

However, he said Oxfam was right to single out companies that it believed fuelled inequality with business models that were "increasingly focused on delivering ever-higher returns to wealthy owners and top executives".

Oxfam's Ms Wright said economic inequality was fuelling a polarisation in politics, citing Donald Trump's election as US president and the Brexit vote as examples.

'Fair share'
"People are angry and calling out for alternatives. They're feeling left behind because however hard they work they can't share in their country's growth," she said.

The charity is calling for "a more human economy" and is urging governments to crack down on executive pay and tax evasion and impose higher taxes on the wealthy.

It also wants business leaders to pay a "fair share of tax" and has urged companies to pay staff the "living wage", which is higher than the government's National Living Wage.

Oxfam has produced similar reports for the past four years. In 2016 it calculated that the richest 62 people in the world had as much wealth as the poorest half of the global population.

The number had fallen to just eight this year because more accurate data was now available, Oxfam said.

It was still the case that the world's richest 1% had as much wealth as the rest of the world combined, Oxfam said.

Firefox 52 Borrows One More Privacy Feature from the Tor Browser
Posted by: 1984hasarrived - 01-16-2017, 03:57 AM - Forum: Computers, Internet and the Digital World - Replies (2)

Well, it is a step in the right direction at least - people are starting to wake up to the insidious nature of their privacy being violated at every turn.  We need to encourage companies like FF to keep on developing these sorts of tools in their browser.

Quote:Mozilla engineers have added a mechanism to Firefox 52 that prevents websites from fingerprinting users using system fonts.

The user privacy protection system was borrowed from the Tor Browser, where a similar mechanism blocks websites from identifying users based on the fonts installed on their computers.

The feature has been active in the Tor Browser for some time and will become active in the stable branch of Firefox 52, scheduled for release on March 7, 2017.

The font fingerprinting protection is already active in Firefox 52 Beta.

Firefox 52 to use a system font whitelist
This new feature works just like in the Tor Browser, meaning Firefox 52 will use a whitelist of system fonts for each operating system.

Firefox won't block queries for system fonts but it will answer in the same way for every user, with a standard list of fonts installed by default on each OS. This whitelist makes the font fingerprinting technique irrelevant for Firefox users.

The practice of font fingerprinting relies on website operators deploying Flash or JS scripts that query the user's browser for a list of locally installed fonts.

In the vast majority of cases, it's advertising companies that employ these fingerprinting techniques via hidden scripts delivered with ads.

Advertisers take the list of local fonts, and together with other user details, they create a unique fingerprint (ID) for each user. This ID is then used to deliver targeted ads and track users across the web.

Feature part of Mozilla's Tor Uplift project
While sabotaging system font queries won't stop user fingerprinting as a whole, this is just one of the latest privacy-related updates Mozilla has added to Firefox.

Back in July 2016, Mozilla engineers started the Tor Uplift project, which aims to improve Firefox's privacy features with the ones present in the Tor Browser.

A month later, with the release of Firefox 48, Mozilla took its first step in this direction by blocking a list of URLs known to host fingerprinting scripts.

CIA Has Interfered With Over 81 Foreign Elections Since 1946!
Posted by: Mystic Wanderer - 01-16-2017, 01:29 AM - Forum: Election 2016 ! - Replies (2)

How ironic that the politicians are getting all up in arms claiming that Russia interfered with the 2016 election, when they are guilty for doing the same thing in 81 foreign elections from 1946 through 2000.   tinyok  In no way am I implying that Russia did, but for them to accuse Russia just makes this that much more laughable after reading this article.

Quote:The CIA has accused Russia of interfering in the 2016 presidential election (with absolutely zero evidence) by hacking into Democratic and Republican computer networks and selectively releasing emails.

But critics might point out the U.S. has done similar things.

The U.S. has a long history of attempting to influence presidential elections in other countries – it’s done so as many as 81 times between 1946 and 2000, according to a database amassed by political scientist Dov Levin of Carnegie Mellon University.

[Image: CIA%2BHas%2BInterfered%2BWith%2BOver%2B8...entury.jpg]

Quote:That number doesn’t include military coups and regime change efforts following the election of candidates the U.S. didn’t like, notably those in Iran, Guatemala and Chile. Nor does it include general assistance with the electoral process, such as election monitoring.

Levin defines intervention as “a costly act which is designed to determine the election results [in favor of] one of the two sides.”

These acts, carried out in secret two-thirds of the time, include funding the election campaigns of specific parties, disseminating misinformation or propaganda, training locals of only one side in various campaigning or get-out-the-vote techniques, helping one side design their campaign materials, making public pronouncements or threats in favor of or against a candidate, and providing or withdrawing foreign aid.

In 59% of these cases, the side that received assistance came to power, although Levin estimates the average effect of “partisan electoral interventions” to be only about a 3% increase in vote share.

The U.S. hasn’t been the only one trying to interfere in other countries’ elections, according to Levin’s data.

Russia attempted to sway 36 foreign elections from the end of World War II to the turn of the century – meaning that, in total, at least one of the two great powers of the 20th century intervened in about 1 of every 9 competitive, national-level executive elections in that time period.

Italy’s 1948 general election is an early example of a race where U.S. actions probably influenced the outcome.

“We threw everything, including the kitchen sink” at helping the Christian Democrats beat the Communists in Italy, said Levin, including covertly delivering “bags of money” to cover campaign expenses, sending experts to help run the campaign, subsidizing “pork” projects like land reclamation, and threatening publicly to end U.S. aid to Italy if the Communists were elected.

Levin said that U.S. intervention probably played an important role in preventing a Communist Party victory, not just in 1948, but in seven subsequent Italian elections.

Throughout the Cold War, U.S. involvement in foreign elections was mainly motivated by the goal of containing communism, said Thomas Carothers, a foreign policy expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

“The U.S. didn’t want to see left-wing governments elected, and so it did engage fairly often in trying to influence elections in other countries,” Carothers said.

This approach carried over into the immediate post-Soviet period.

In the 1990 Nicaragua elections, the CIA leaked damaging information on alleged corruption by the Marxist Sandinistas to German newspapers, according to Levin.

The opposition used those reports against the Sandinista candidate, Daniel Ortega. He lost to opposition candidate Violeta Chamorro.

In Czechoslovakia that same year, the U.S. provided training and campaign funding to Vaclav Havel’s party and its Slovak affiliate as they planned for the country’s first democratic election after its transition away from communism.

“The thinking was that we wanted to make sure communism was dead and buried,” said Levin.

Even after that, the U.S. continued trying to influence elections in its favor.

In Haiti after the 1986 overthrow of dictator and U.S. ally Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier, the CIA sought to support particular candidates and undermine Jean-Bertrande Aristide, a Roman Catholic priest and proponent of liberation theology.

The New York Times reported in the 1990s that the CIA had on its payroll members of the military junta that would ultimately unseat Aristide after he was democratically elected in a landslide over Marc Bazin, a former World Bank official and finance minister favored by the U.S.

The U.S. also attempted to sway Russian elections. In 1996, with the presidency of Boris Yeltsin and the Russian economy flailing, President Clinton endorsed a $10.2-billion loan from the International Monetary Fund linked to privatization, trade liberalization and other measures that would move Russia toward a capitalist economy.

Yeltsin used the loan to bolster his popular support, telling voters that only he had the reformist credentials to secure such loans, according to media reports at the time.

He used the money, in part, for social spending before the election, including payment of back wages and pensions.

In the Middle East, the U.S. has aimed to bolster candidates who could further the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

In 1996, seeking to fulfill the legacy of assassinated Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and the peace accords the U.S. brokered, Clinton openly supported Shimon Peres, convening a peace summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheik to boost his popular support and inviting him to a meeting at the White House a month before the election.

“We were persuaded that if [Likud candidate Benjamin] Netanyahu were elected, the peace process would be closed for the season,” said Aaron David Miller, who worked at the State Department at the time.

In 1999, in a more subtle effort to sway the election, top Clinton strategists, including James Carville, were sent to advise Labor candidate Ehud Barak in the election against Netanyahu.

In Yugoslavia, the U.S. and NATO had long sought to cut off Serbian nationalist and Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic from the international system through economic sanctions and military action.

In 2000, the U.S. spent millions of dollars in aid for political parties, campaign costs and independent media. Funding and broadcast equipment provided to the media arms of the opposition were a decisive factor in electing opposition candidate Vojislav Kostunica as Yugoslav president, according to Levin.

“If it wouldn’t have been for overt intervention… Milosevic would have been very likely to have won another term,” he said.

I can't copy and paste any of the article to this thread, but I hope you will click on the link provided and read it.

Another whistle-blower has been murdered for telling the public the truth.
This is unacceptable, and we know who's behind it... BIG PHARMA!

[Image: the-pharmaceutical-industry-does-not-cre...=600&h=600]

We need to do something about this as a global society.  Too many have died in the name of the Elite filling their pockets at our expense, and even our lives!
WE NEED TO TAKE THEM DOWN!   tinyshouting  (Where's my other attire?  I need to be wearing it right now!)

I'm totally pissed!

ETA:  I just noticed from another source this was back in 2015.  I think this particular article is just now saying that it has been determined as a FACT that this doctor was murdered, not a suicide.

Something needs to be done about all the murders of the alternative doctors. tinyok

You're Never Too Old To Learn
Posted by: Mystic Wanderer - 01-15-2017, 05:00 PM - Forum: Daily Chit Chat - Replies (3)

I'm shocked that I have never heard of this at my age, thus the title.

My mother, and her mother, and every woman I've known growing up used the bottom drawer in the stove to store pans.  Now, after all these years, I learn it wasn't meant for that!   tinybighuh

Quote:Perhaps, like me, you use that drawer located underneath your stove for storing pans, cookie sheets, and muffin tins.
Unfortunately, we've all been doing it wrong, according to the good people who manufacture stoves.

While it does serve as a great spot for all of your back-up cooking tools, it's actually meant to be a warming drawer.

You may notice a message printed on the inside of the drawer or in some sort of owner's manual that says something like this: "The warming drawer is designed to keep hot foods at serving temperature. Always start with hot food. Cold or room-temperature foods cannot be heated, warmed, or cooked in the warming drawer. Bacteria will grow very rapidly in food that is between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit."

Maybe it's because it's located so closely to the ground, or maybe it's because it's such a perfect spot for storing not-in-use skillets, but this is news to me. But what a great way to use all of that heat that goes into cooking your foods not to mention the ideal solution for dealing with dinner guests who are running late.

Well, what do you know?!  Seems like a good idea, but now to figure out where to store all those pans I have stored in there!   tinywondering

Anarchists Plan to “Stop the Trump-Pence Regime Before it Starts”
Posted by: Mystic Wanderer - 01-15-2017, 12:22 AM - Forum: Political News and more - Replies (13)

This was supposed to start today.  Anyone heard anything about this?

I think we could be in for some bad days ahead.  I would think it a wise move if Trump moved his Inauguration to an undisclosed location until he is sworn in.  It's such a shame that our country has come to this.   tinycrying

Quote:Radio host Alex Jones acknowledges: This is “a devilish takeover […] it’s a “battle for the Republic.”

Editor’s Note: Feel free to substitute the word “anarchists” in the title to “radical leftists” as some have already complained in the comments section. But the bottom line is that this group is not recognizing Trump as the next POTUS, despite the fact that he won the election, and they want to stop him before he takes office.
(Definition) Anarchy: A state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority.
WASHINGTON D.C. (INTELLIHUB) — “In the name of humanity we refuse to accept a fascist America,” the group’s slogan reads at the top of their website.
Radical leftists from the group Refuse Fascism plan to “take to the streets” on Inauguration Day and “bring D.C. to a halt” after claiming that Donald Trump has “assembled a regime of grave danger.”
The group says that a Trump presidency is “illegitimate” because he dis not win the “popular vote” but rather won the Electoral College which the group claims “is an institution set up in 1787 to protect slavery.”
[Image: top-image.jpg]Via RefuseFascism.org
Stopping the Trump regime is not “wishful thinking” the group says, claiming a “massive mobilization” could turn it into a “reality.”
The shenanigans are set to begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 starting at McPherson Square.

Quote:
We Begin Jan 14 at 4PM… March into the night…every night
Grow in Numbers…
We will be:
First: Hundreds & thousands taking to the streets
Then: Becoming ten and a hundred thousand
Grow each day to become millions across the country
as the week of Jan. 16-20 unfolds…
And with the call for such anarchy, one can only imagine how all of this could quickly spiral out of control, leading to a massive riot or even martial law as called for by Rosie O’Donnell via Twitter on Thursday.

See the Twitter Tweets on the Source Page: LINK

Quote:“According to O’Donnell, the one way to stop Trump is to effectively end the Constitution and set up a military dictatorship, all because of documented disinformation spread by the corporate media about supposed Russian ties to the president-elect,” Alex Thomas with Intellihub wrote.

“O’Donnell continued with multiple follow up Tweets that described her thought process which is either completely brainwashed by corporate media disinformation or worse, is all part of a wider conspiracy to stop Trump from taking office.”

Trump’s Inauguration could, in fact, turn out to be the biggest, single most important event to take place in human history as pointed out by radio talk show host Alex Jones in a key transmission.

Quote:Infowars commander-in-chief Alex Jones said Thursday that he is worried that the general public doesn’t know how much danger we are in and said that he is “sitting on” major “intel” which he is not privy to disclose at this time.

“I know what they are currently up to, I have been told by multiple high-level sources. And when I say high-level, I mean as high as it gets. […] I am so frustrated because I don’t like sitting on information [….] that I am not at liberty to give you.”

“[…] they are planning on blocking Trump.,” Jones said. “It’s crazy […] the New World Order is anti-human.”

This is “a devilish takeover […] it’s a “battle for the Republic.”

Breathe... in and out... in and out.   I'll be so glad when this is over!   I just hope he makes it.   tinyshocked
I really don't think the left realizes what's at stake here.   tinycrying

  Lemon Squeezer
Posted by: 727Sky - 01-14-2017, 03:06 AM - Forum: Humor, Jokes & Pranks - Replies (2)

Quote:   LEMON SQUEEZER
At a local bar in Tamworth
The owner & bartender, was so sure that he was
the strongest man around, that he offered a
standing $1000 bet.
The bartender would squeeze a lemon until all the juice ran into a glass, and then hand the lemon to a patron.
Anyone who could squeeze two more drops of juice out of it, would win the money.
Many people had tried, over the years:
weightlifters, longshoremen, football players etc., but nobody had ever been able to do it.
One day, this scrawny little fellow came into the bar, wearing thick glasses and a polyester suit.
He sat down, ordered a glass of draft, & started looking around the bar.
After reading the sign on the wall about the lemon challenge, he said in a meek voice:
"I was just reading your sign, and I'd like to try the bet."
After the laughter in the pub had died down, the bartender grabbed a lemon and squeezed the heck out of it.....
Then he handed the wrinkled remains of the rind to the little fellow.
The Crowd's laughter turned to total silence....
as the man clenched his little fist around the lemon....
and six drops fell into the glass.
As the crowd cheered, the bartender paid the guy his $1000, and then asked little man:
"Do you mind if I ask what do you do for a living?
Are you a lumberjack, a weight-lifter, or what?"
The little fellow quietly replied:
no "I work for the government Tax Office".

  Are You a Starseed?
Posted by: Mystic Wanderer - 01-13-2017, 06:00 PM - Forum: Metaphysics and Related Topics - Replies (7)

Starseeds are souls that have experienced life outside of the universe on other planets, and have now come back to Earth to help humanity evolve in spiritual awareness.  There are three levels of starseeds.  Do you fit into any of these categories?

Quote:
  • Typical Starseed: Had preparation lifetimes and may have lived 5-50 times on this earth.

  • Old Soul Starseed: Has had hundreds of lifetimes on earth, these are our guardians of the earth.

  • New Starseed: Many who have had no lifetimes on earth. These include some of the Crystal and Rainbow Children.

Traits of Starseeds:

Quote:
  • Difficulty fitting in, not being able to relate to people, an innate loneliness and want to return home.
  • Shy and introverted as a child. They are creative and enjoy spending their time playing make-believe rather than playing with other children.
  • Highly intelligent and inquisitive. Fascination with learning but if they feel the information is mundane, they will tune it out.
  • Often diagnosed with A.D.D. or even Bi-Polar Disorder due to the dramatic mood swings because of their sensitivity to the world around them.
  • Often had imaginary friends and created a fantasy world to explore their own minds.
  • Around the ages of 5-11, they may have experienced a paranormal experience with shadow figures or ghosts.
  • Feel more comfortable communicating and being around animals and nature.
  • Due to their sensitive nature, they often choose careers that involve healing.
  • Have difficulty deciding what to do with their life as nothing on this planet makes sense to them.

I can answer yes to all the above, except being diagnosed with A.D.D.   However, during an in-depth personality profile to see what kind of career I should undertake, I was told that my brain interprets  information in a different way than the majority, whatever that means.   tinywondering

I also remember when I was four years old, standing at the kitchen sink and crying because I "wanted to go home"... but,  I was home.   tinyhuh

Physical Traits of Starseeds:

Quote:
  • A strange tendency to bruise easily.
  • Strong bodies that heal easily after an injury.
  • Sensitivity to extremes of hot or cold temperatures.
  • Many have very acute hearing and are very sensitive to sound.
  • Eccentric or intense eyes, any color hair with a reddish tint.
  • Have an extreme sensitivity to medicine, alcohol, or drugs with a high risk of dependency. The more awakened the Starseed becomes, the less likely they will become dependent.
  • They are more “night” oriented often staying up late and sleeping in. They feel a sense of peace when night falls.

I can also answer yes to all these.  However, now that I'm older and have developed Rheumatoid Arthritis, I don't heal fast like I used to, but when I was young I did, and I was as strong as any man I knew as a teen; I would always beat my older brother at leg wrestling.   tinylaughing

I've always had acute hearing, and loud sounds upset me.  Not mentioned was sense of smell... Sometimes my sense of smell is so strong I have to cover my nose, while others don't seem to smell anything.  tinysurprised

People are always commenting on my "piercing" blue eyes; not many people can look me in the eye for more than a few seconds.  They say it appears as if I'm looking though their soul, (and I am  tinylaughing ).        And you all know I have the red hair.  tinybiggrin

Do not be alarmed as these are the signs that you may be experiencing:

Quote:
  • Feeling over stressed with an intense energy – Your body is now adjusting to a much higher vibration and slowly will adjust.
  • Feeling disoriented – You are not in 3D anymore and are in the process of moving into higher dimensions.
  • Increased pains or aches in your body – Your body is clearing out any blocked energy, cleansing you while your vibrations increase as you go into higher dimensions.
  • Waking up in the middle of the night – Your body needing to take a rest from your dreams as there is so much going on in them you need a “time out” to rejuvenate
  • Becoming sensitive to your environment – Not enjoying loud noises, large crowds and for some, TV or certain foods.

Starseeds more than any others on the planet have an inherent soul purpose to be of service in love, light, and truth for the evolution and ascension of Earth. They are here as guides, watchers, builders, and anchors.

As a Starseed, you are approaching a time when the blissfulness of your inner states suggests that release is impending. While others around you may not know what is occurring, you will be in the forefront to show others who have not walked this way before how ascension is accomplished.
