First Hive of Murder Hornets Murdered in WA State

Oh my goodness!  I'm glad these things were destroyed before they spread. But how do we know there aren't more out there?   tinyhuh

Quote:Agricultural department workers wearing protective suits have eradicated the first nest of giant "murder hornets" discovered in the United States, vacuuming them out of a tree in Washington state.

The nest of Asian giant hornets was found on Thursday by Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) entomologists on a property in Blaine, near the border with Canada, the agency said.

They spent weeks searching for the nest, trapping hornets and tracking them, using dental floss to tie tiny radio trackers on the insects, which are nearly two inches (five centimeters) in length and have a painful sting.
Before dawn on Saturday, a team of workers dressed from head to toe in protective suits vacuumed the insects out of their nest in the cavity of a dead tree.

"Got 'em. Vacuumed out several #AsianGiantHornets from a tree cavity near Blaine this morning," the state agriculture department said on Twitter later Saturday, along with a video showing a mass of hornets in a transparent container.

It said removal of the nest appeared to have been successful and more details would be provided at a press conference on Monday.

Scientists in Washington state have been actively searching for the Asian giant hornet since the first such insect was detected in December 2019 and after one of the wasps was trapped in July in Whatcom County, where Blaine is located. Canada also found Asian giant hornets in two locations in neighboring British Colombia.
Several more of the invasive pest not native to the US were subsequently caught, all in the same region.
The WSDA believes there was a good chance that there are more nests and "stopping this cold is very crucial," said Sven Spichiger, an entomologist with WSDA, during a press conference on Friday.
"If it becomes established, this hornet will have negative impacts on the environment, economy, and public health of Washington State," the WSDA said.

It is unclear how the hornets arrived in the US.

This man was there in my "foggy" years, my good years, bad years, and in my darkest of days. Just hoping he finds peace and tranquility, hope that he enjoys the feeling he's given to so many of his fans over the years.

Quote:Gone Fishing

It’s been a great 50+ years of being a working entertainer, but I reached the difficult decision that touring and stage shows are no longer possible.  I've cancelled the upcoming shows, and am not accepting offers for new ones. That’s the short version. For the longer version continue reading…

As a folksinger, I never really thought much about getting older. It seemed to me that I could just continue year after year, decade after decade, singing and playing as I had done for most of my life. As the years went by, it got more difficult to keep touring, but I did it, mostly because I’d been doing it my entire life. It was the life I knew and loved.

In 2016 on April 1st, April Fools Day, I got really dizzy in the parking lot of the hotel, and started seeing as though I were looking through a kaleidoscope. That evening the show went on as though nothing had happened. I had no idea I’d just encountered a mini stroke until weeks later, when I was told about it. It didn’t appear to affect my performance, or my state of being. I continued touring for the next 4 years.

Then, on Thanksgiving Day 2019 (of all freaking days) it happened again. This time I was on my way to The Church / The Guthrie Center to help out with our annual Thanksgiving Dinner that we hold every year. I had pulled over to fuel up and realized I couldn’t continue to drive safely, as everything was spinning around, sort of like the old days, but without the help of illegal substances. I was taken to the hospital, and was under evaluation, when I broke out. I had an important gig at Carnegie Hall in New York - The end of an annual series I’d been doing for decades and it was Sold Out. I had to be there. It was imperative.

The next morning I left the hospital, took the family and headed for New York. And what a show it was! We wrapped up 50 years with a terrific evening with the entire family on stage. I really enjoyed it.

The following day I flew to my home in Sebastian, FL just as I had done for years, this time with the history of Carnegie Hall behind me.  My girlfriend, Marti picked me up at the airport, and we settled into the routine of being on the river I loved. Two nights after arriving home, I awoke in the morning and was lurching from sIde to side. I knew something was wrong, and went to keep a doctors appointment we’d previously set up. The doc said “You need to go to the hospital - Now.”

So, Marti took me to the hospital nearby in Vero Beach.  They kept me there for 3 days, running tests of all kinds, and essentially informed me that I’d suffered a stroke. This time was more serious, as I’d lost some ability to walk, and I wondered if if would be able to play music. I spent about a week in a rehab center to re-learn the basics, like walking. I went home after that, and began a regimen of playing guitar, walking… All the things I would need to continue touring and performing. During the entire time, Marti kept the family and close friends advised as to my progress, and took really great care of me. I needed all the help I could get. And she was there to see it done right.

By the the time our first shows began in 2020, I was at about at 80% and felt like I was improving. Then the pandemic hit. All the shows we had planned for 2020 were at first, postponed, then rescheduled and finally cancelled. My hopes for a gradual recovery onstage came to an abrupt end.

Meanwhile, I’d decided back in 2018 to move from the home in Florida. And just as I’d returned from our last gig in Tennessee, a buyer appeared, and we had a deal on the table to sell The CrabHouse. I wasn’t in any shape to go through the intricacies of selling a guitar pick, let alone a home with 30 years of stuff we’d collected. Marti ended up doing it all. She finalized the deal, and dealt with the stuff that either had to be sold, moved or thrown out.  It was quite a lot. But, through garage sales, online markets, movers and friends, she’d pretty much emptied the CrabHouse of everything, and we moved into her place about a mile away.

We were there for a few weeks, before it was safe enough to return to The Farm in Massachusetts. That was in June 2020. Since then we’ve been holed up at The Farm trying to keep out of harms way, and also trying to provide some online entertainment for our friends who were, and continue to be, holed up wherever they are. My band and crew arranged a few short gigs that were filmed at The Church, but when I saw the play-back in the editing room I realized that it was not up to the standards I expected of myself, let alone the expectations that our friends and fans had come to enjoy.

A folksinger’s shelf life may be a lot longer than a dancer or an athlete, but at some point, unless you’re incredibly fortunate or just plain whacko (either one or both) it’s time to hang up the “Gone Fishing” sign. Going from town to town and doing stage shows, remaining on the road is no longer an option.

I don’t remember answering the question on the other side of that piece of paper when I was asked “Kid! Have you rehabilitated yourself?” But, the short answer is now clearly, “No!” In fact, I hope to be a thorn in the side of a new administration pretty soon. Tom Paine once wrote “To argue with a man who has renounced the use … of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead….” In other words, you cannot and should not argue with people who don’t care, or hold the caring of others in contempt. A healthy suspicion of authority, left, right or center has been the hallmark of my career since the beginning, and I will continue to poke fun at cultural, political, or personal absurdities as I see it. I’m actually looking forward to it.

I’m happy, healthy and good to go, even if I’m not going anywhere. I’ve taken back 6-9 months that I used to spend on the road, and enjoying myself with Marti, my family and friends. In short - Gone Fishing.

  The Day After....
Posted by: PLOTUS - 10-24-2020, 05:12 PM - Forum: Social Unrest and Justice - Replies (11)

November fourth and the biggest event in most of our lives will have come and gone. Sure we fully expect the outcome will not be resolved for some days much as Bush-Gore went on nearly two weeks with no clear winner. But We the People, how will we react and behave ?  As we have become accustomed to instant gratification, it will likely seem an inordinate length of time. Angst will run high in the tall grass of confusion. There will be many setting on a time bomb waiting for word. But for all of us, we will have lost a little of ourselves. That thing that once used to make us a Great Nation above all the rest.... Determination and  resolve and our propensity to display charity to one another.

All the while outside influences and parties trying to sew division, rebelion and push forth hatred. The purest of evil.

How will we ever heal this nation, and from where will the valued and much needed patriotism come?

The  future course of our children will be expressed every four years.
Have we learned anything with this years problems ? How change forced upon us can remain and  become commonplace. Perhaps those Statues and Monuments were there to remind us what we could rise to, or descend to...2,020 years ago we suffered another great divission, remember how it played out.

Apparently quite a problem in a cemetery in Belgium.

They don't need a partner to reproduce, and all members of the species are female.

Quote:The reviews we’ve seen of last night’s debate seem to suggest that President Trump got the better of Joe Biden by a handy margin, and that’s more or less what we saw. We thought Trump missed a couple of opportunities here and there, particularly for example when the topic was race and Biden was attempting to wriggle off the hook on the 1994 crime bill – we were thinking that if Trump had brought up Biden’s old “racial jungle” statement it could have burned him to the ground.

BIDEN: “[President Trump] did virtually nothing” to combat the coronavirus.

FACT: President Trump took action beginning in January to combat the coronavirus and his Administration has led an unprecedented response to protect American lives.

*According to Dr. Fauci, the Trump Administration “acted very, very early” to combat the spread of the virus and did not delay putting in place mitigation strategies.

*President Trump restricted travel from China on January 31, a decision that saved American lives.

*On February 11, top Biden coronavirus advisor Ron Klain admitted the Trump Administration was “far from doing nothing.”

*Even Democratic Governors like Andrew Cuomo (NY) praised the Trump Administration’s response: “What the federal government did, working with states, was a phenomenal accomplishment.”

*President Trump completely overhauled the old and outdated testing system and replaced it with an innovative new testing strategy to meet the country’s needs.

*President Trump used the Defense Production Act dozens of times to expand coronavirus testing technologies and capacity.

*President Trump launched Operation Warp Speed to guarantee that the American people are first in line for a safe, effective coronavirus vaccine—at no cost—as soon as one is developed.

It's all thanks to President Trump and his team.

  THE Best Score EVER
Posted by: gordi - 10-23-2020, 08:06 AM - Forum: The Sports and Travel Zone - Replies (4)

Fellow Rogues,

I was watching a live football (soccer) match on TV last night, and the team I support (Glasgow Rangers) scored one of the BEST goals that I've ever seen!

It was in a big European game against Standard Liege of Belgium, in the opening group-stage match of the Europa League tournament.

Rangers striker Kemar Roofe battled for the ball near the edge of his own penalty area, skipped past about 4 opponents then looked up to see the opposition goalkeeper standing very slightly off of his goal line... What happened next defies adequate description! Suffice to say... it's well worth taking a look!

See the short video clip to watch the action!

It got me thinking.... What is the BEST scoring play that you've ever seen in any sport?

My previous favourite.... almost equal to this one... was a James McFadden goal, again in football (soccer), but this time for Scotland vs France:

I'm sure that I have a few Rugby tries that could maybe come close too....

Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed this one, now what's YOUR favourite scoring play in any sport?

South Korea sticks to flu vaccine plan despite safety fears after 25 die
Posted by: 727Sky - 10-23-2020, 07:52 AM - Forum: General Health Topics - No Replies

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-healt...SKBN277058

Quote:SEOUL (Reuters) - South Korean officials refused on Thursday to suspend a seasonal influenza inoculation effort, despite growing calls for a halt, including an appeal from a key group of doctors, after the deaths of at least 25 of those vaccinated.

Health authorities said they found no direct links between the deaths and the vaccines.
At least 22 of the dead, including a 17-year-old boy, were part of a campaign to inoculate 19 million teenagers and senior citizens for free, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said.
“The number of deaths has increased, but our team sees low possibility that the deaths resulted from the shots,” the agency’s director, Jeong Eun-kyeong, told parliament.
South Korea ordered a fifth more flu vaccines this year to ward off what it calls a “twindemic”, or the prospect that people with flu develop coronavirus complications and overburden hospitals in winter.
“I understand and regret that people are concerned about the vaccine,” said Health Minister Park Neung-hoo, who confirmed the free programme would go ahead.
“We’re looking into the causes but will again thoroughly examine the entire process in which various government agencies are involved, from production to distribution.”
Vaccine providers include domestic firms such as GC Pharma, SK Bioscience, Korea Vaccine and Boryung Biopharma Co. Ltd., a unit of Boryung Pharm Co. Ltd., along with France’s Sanofi.
They supply both the free programme and paid services that together aim to vaccinate about 30 million of a population of 52 million.
Of the 25 dead, 10 received products from SK Bioscience, 5 each from Boryung and GC Pharma, one from Korea Vaccine and four from Sanofi.
All four domestic firms declined to comment, while Sanofi did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
It was not immediately clear if any of the vaccines made in South Korea were exported, or if those supplied by Sanofi were also being used elsewhere.
The Korean Medical Association, an influential grouping of doctors, urged the government to halt all inoculation programmes for now, to allay public concerns and ensure the vaccines were safe.
FILE PHOTO: A man gets an influenza vaccine at a hospital in Seoul, South Korea, October 21, 2020. REUTERS/Kim Hong-Ji/File Photo
Kim Chong-in, leader of the main opposition People Power party, wanted the programme halted until the causes of the deaths were verified.
But health authorities have said a preliminary investigation into six deaths found no direct link to the vaccines, with no toxic substances uncovered.
KDCA data on Thursday showed at least seven of the nine people it investigated had underlying conditions.
EARLIER SUSPENSION
The free programme has proved controversial since it began last month. The launch had been suspended for three weeks after the discovery that about 5 million doses were kept at room temperature rather than being refrigerated, as required.
Officials said 8.3 million people had been inoculated since the programme resumed on Oct. 13, with about 350 cases of adverse reactions reported.
A separate paid programme allows buyers to pick from a larger pool of firms that make free vaccines and others.
The most deaths in South Korea linked to seasonal flu vaccinations was six in 2005, the Yonhap news agency said. Officials have said comparisons to previous years are tough, since more people are taking the vaccine this year.
Kim Myung-suk, 65, is among a growing number of South Koreans who decided to pay for a vaccine of their choice, despite being eligible for a free dose.
“Though just a few people died so far, the number is growing and that makes me uneasy,” she told Reuters in the capital, Seoul. “So I’m getting a shot somewhere else and will pay for it.”

BREAKING: Biden’s Former Business Partner in China Scheme, Tony Bobulinski, Will Be Trump’s Special Guest at Final Debate

Quote:Tony Bobulinski, a former business partner of Hunter Biden, Joe Biden and Joe’s brother Jim in the now-infamous China scheme, will be President Donald Trump’s special guest at the final presidential debate on Thursday evening.

It is now safe to say that the president will be bringing up Hunter Biden’s laptop and the shocking contents that the liberal media has been attempting to brush aside.

Bobulinski recently made massive waves after a bombshell statement to the New York Post “asserting that the former vice president was a willing and eager participant in a family scheme to make millions of dollars by partnering with a shady Chinese Communist firm.”

The former business partner also admitted that he was one of the recipients of an email published by the post, confirming that it was authentic.

The debate will take place at 9 p.m. EST. The Gateway Pundit will be posting updates throughout the evening.
