Dr Who And The Credit He Deserves.
Posted by: BIAD - 02-27-2021, 09:32 PM - Forum: Movies and TV Shows - Replies (10)

During my sleepy flu-ridden early retirement to bed, I recalled that I had a sh*tty antenna that could possibly pick-up an
odd channel on an old TV set we still had in the bedroom. Failing to locate anything worthy of viewing, I switched it off
and reminisced on programmes of when I was younger.

The next day, I wondered about an episode of Doctor Who that I watched when -wait for it, when I was five years-old!
Realising this may also draw Wallfire's attention, I pushed-on to find the episode's name and when it was broadcast.

I remembered that characters wore ridiculous costumes and it was set on a barren planet. The plot alluded me, but the
outfits were certainly memorable. A guy dressed as bee, something that looked like a cross between a woodlouse and
nail-brush and two guys dressed as giant ants.

Then just by chance, I found the programme's title. 'The Web Planet'.

The crappy 'special-effects' for this episode were sparse -to say the least, but it was 1965 and one might take the rarely
-mentioned viewing figures that today's MSM report as factual and say "See..? quality is the cause here!"
Yes, that was the narrative I grew up with, the series -in its current state drew poor viewership, seemed destined to fade
away from the licence-fee-paying enjoyment of Saturday evenings.

William Hartnell, the time-travelling Doctor and his chums just weren't hacking it with trendy UK public sitting beside their
monochrome sets back in 1965.

Here's some images to display what I mean.

But it was those elusive ratings that caught my attention.
Today we have a multitude of equipment to access our entertainment and I can appreciate that such a range would have
a bearing on current figures. Back then, many families couldn't afford a TV set, however radio was still big in Great Britain.

These are the recent ratings taken from  'Doctor Who TV'
2020-21 Episode Ratings
  Overnight    Consolidated (+7) +4-Screen
Ep 01 4.88m     6.70m                     6.89m
Ep 02 4.60m     5.91m                     6.07m
Ep 03 4.19m     5.25m                     5.38m
Ep 04 4.04m     5.07m                     5.20m
Ep 05 4.21m     5.42m                     5.57m
Ep 06 3.97m     5.09m                     5.22m
Ep 07 3.81m     4.77m                     4.90m
Ep 08 3.86m     4.95m                     5.07m
Ep 09 3.71m     4.85m                     4.99m
Ep 10 3.78m     4.55m                     4.69m
Special 4.69m     6.25m                     6.35m

So back to the weird episode of man-size-bees and shuffling nail-brushes. The poor rating...? 13.5 million.
The BBC is dying, but it wasn't back then, it's now.

  There was a Man...
Posted by: PLOTUS - 02-26-2021, 03:53 PM - Forum: Psychological Well Being - Replies (1)

There once was a man who lived in a two story house.  The house was near a river and unfortunately the river began to flood.

As the river rose, warnings were given via radio, TV and shortwave. Large jeeps drove through the area to evacuate people.  As a jeep drove by the man's house, he was told:
"You are in danger.  Your life is at stake.  You must evacuate.  Get in the Jeep.  Let us help you evacuate."
"No," the man replied from his doorstep.  "I have faith.  I will be ok.  The flood won't get me.  God will take care of me."

The water continued to rise.
Soon the man was on the second floor.  A boat was going through the area and arrived at the man's house. Rescuers made every effort to convince the man to take action so that his life would be saved.
"You are in danger.  Your life is at stake.  You will drown in the flood."
"No worries," says the man.  "I have faith.  Everything is ok.  Even though the flood is rising, I will be fine.  God will take care of me."
The flood continued to rise.
The man went to the roof to avoid the rising water.  A helicopter pilot sees him on top of the roof and hovers above the man.  Using a megaphone, the pilot tries to convince the man to grab the rope ladder which was dangling above his head.
"You are in danger.  The flood is still rising.  You will drown if you do not grab the rope ladder.  Let us help you."
"No worries."  says the man.  "I will be fine.  Yes, the flood is higher but I have faith.  God will take care of me."
The flood rises.  The man jumped in and swam to high ground.  As the man celebrated with rescuers.

He was exposed to the Covid, refused the vacination, caught it and perished..

Can’t Get You Out of My Head a mini series

Quote:Can’t Get You Out of My Head: An Emotional History of the Modern World is a six-part series that explores how modern society has arrived to the strange place it is today. The series traverses themes of love, power, money, corruption, the ghosts of empire, the history of China, opium and opioids, the strange roots of modern conspiracy theories, and the history of Artificial Intelligence and surveillance. The series deals with the rise of individualism and populism throughout history, and the failures of a wide range of resistance movements throughout time and various countries, pointing to how revolution has been subsumed in various ways by spectacle and culture, because of the way power has been forgotten or given away.
Series
Part 1 — Bloodshed on Wolf Mountain
We are living through strange days. Across Britain, Europe, and America, societies have become split and polarised. There is anger at the inequality and the ever growing corruption—and a widespread distrust of the elites. Into this has come the pandemic that has brutally dramatised those divisions. But despite the chaos, there is a paralysis—a sense that no one knows how to escape from this. Can’t Get You Out of My Head tells how we got to this place. And why both those in power—and we—find it so difficult to move on. At its heart is the strange story of what happened when people’s inner feelings got mixed up with power in the age of individualism. How the hopes and dreams and uncertainties inside people’s minds met the decaying forces of old power in Britain, America, Russia, and China. What resulted was a block not just in the society, but also inside our own heads, that stops us imagining anything else than this.
Part 2 — Shooting and F**king are the Same Thing
This next part traverses the story of what tore the revolutions in the 1960s apart. Jiang Qing in China, Michael X in London, Afeni Shakur in New York believed that millions of people’s minds were haunted by the corruption and the violence of the past. They wanted to show people how to escape those ghosts. But they hadn’t reckoned with the fact that the old structures of power still haunted their minds too. They too had been scarred by the past, and some of them wanted violent revenge. While psychologists and neuroscientists were starting to discover what they said were hidden forces inside the human brain that really controlled what they did. But the people weren’t aware.
Part 3 — Money Changes Everything
This is the story of how in the 1970s, those in power set out to create a world free of the dangerous big ideas of the past. They banished the grand dreams of changing the world. And replaced them with money. People would live from now on in their own heads—in their own dreams. And the banks would lend them the money to create those dreams. While China would supply a wave of cheap consumer goods on a scale never seen before in the world. But then money broke free across the world. And people started to get frightened that things were out of control. Not just money—but the world’s climate too seemed to be behaving in a strange, unpredictable way. The systems seemed to have a life of their own. Beyond the ability of anyone to shape and predict.
Part 4 — But What If the People Are Stupid?
No one trusted politics or politicians any longer. Instead we were all one world of free individuals. And we could intervene to save other individuals around the world without bothering with old politics and power. And people became what they as individuals truly were—emotionally and sexually. But power was mutating and finding ways to work its way back into our heads. The politicians realised that they no longer had the support or the trust of the people. So they switched sides and gave up being our representatives who would challenge the powerful on our behalf. Instead they began to tell us what to do on behalf of the powerful. And they made new alliances—with the psychologists who said that human beings were irrational and needed to be managed. But we didn’t notice because we were too busy shopping.
Part 5 — The Lordly Ones
It wasn’t just the Slave Trade: 150 years ago Britain had wrecked China by forcing opium on the country. It made Britain the richest and most powerful country in the world. But it enslaved the minds of millions of the Chinese and helped destroy the society. But then the British got frightened of what they had done and created a dream image of a Britain that had never existed, to hide from the fear. This film tells the story of how from the end of the 19th century a magical vision of Britain’s feudal past was created by artists and writers. How folk music and folk dancing was invented to create a kind of safe dream of the nation that could hide the violence and the horrors. The dream persisted under the surface of the 20th century. But as the fears and uncertainties and the chaos of the last few years rose up millions of people started to believe that dream: that it was real.
Part 6 — Are We Pigeon? Or Are We Dancer?
The final episode tells how the strange paralysis that grips us today was created. How all the different forces of our age—that started out as separate have come together to create what is a block against imagining another kind of future than this. How, money and debt, melancholy over the loss of empire, the strange roots of modern conspiracy theories, the history of China, opium and opioids, Artificial Intelligence, and love and power have all fed into creating the present time of anxiety and fearfulness about the future. And whether modern culture, despite its radicalism, is really also part of the rigid system—in the West and in Russia and China—where those in power have run out of all ideas. The film also lays out what are the different possible roads from here into the future, and the choices we will have to make about the very different futures we will have to choose very soon.

Air Strike in Syria by US forces !

I knew it would not be long before the bombs started falling... Idiots
https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/25/politics/...index.html

Quote:[img]data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhEAAJAJEAAAAAAP///////wAAACH5BAEAAAIALAAAAAAQAAkAAAIKlI+py+0Po5yUFQA7[/img](CNN)The US military on Thursday struck a site in Syria used by two Iranian-backed militia groups in response to
rocket attacks on American forces in the region in the past two weeks.
"Up to a handful" of militants were killed in the strikes, a US official told CNN.

The strikes, which mark the US military's first known action under President Joe Biden, swiftly drew criticism from a Democratic lawmaker.
The site was not specifically tied to the rocket attacks but Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said he was "confident" it was used by the
same Iranian-backed Shia militias that had fired rockets at US and coalition forces.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the strikes took place "at President Biden's direction" and were authorized not just to respond to the recent attacks against American and coalition forces but also to deal with "ongoing threats to those personnel."

"Specifically, the strikes destroyed multiple facilities located at a border control point used by a number of Iranian-backed militant groups, including Kata'ib Hezbollah and Kata'ib Sayyid al Shuhada," Kirby said. "The operation sends an unambiguous message; President Biden will
act to protect American coalition personnel. At the same time, we have acted in a deliberate manner that aims to de-escalate the overall situation in both Eastern Syria and Iraq."

The site the US struck on Thursday is believed to be used as part of a weapons smuggling operation by the militias, according to a US official. The strikes were conducted to degrade the groups' ability to carry out attacks and to send a message about the recent attacks, the official said.

Decision made from the 'top down'
The decision to target the site in Syria was made from the "top down," a defense official said. Austin told reporters that Biden had authorized the strike on Thursday morning, after he had recommended the President take action.

"We're confident in the target we went after," Austin said on a flight back to Washington from San Diego on Thursday. "We know what we hit. We allowed and encouraged the Iraqis to investigate and develop intelligence, and that was very helpful to us in refining the target."

Kirby said Biden authorized the strikes after consulting with US allies, including coalition partners, and that they had taken place at about
6 p.m. ET.

A US strike against Kata'ib Hezbollah in Iraq on December 29 triggered complaints from the Iraqi government about violations of its sovereignty. Days later, members of the group and other Iran-backed militias marched on the US Embassy in Iraq, damaging property
and setting outer buildings on fire.

Biden calls Saudi King before expected release of Khashoggi report
While the US had not before Thursday blamed any specific group for the rocket attacks or attributed them to any Iranian proxies in the
region, the administration has made clear where it places the ultimate blame.
"We have stated before that we will hold Iran responsible for the actions of its proxies that attack Americans," State Department
spokesman Ned Price said on Monday, noting that "many of these attacks have used Iranian-made, Iranian-supplied weapons."
Earlier this week, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki had said the US holds Iran accountable for the actions of its proxies.

A February 15 rocket attack on coalition forces near the Erbil International Airport in Iraqi Kurdistan killed a civilian contractor and injured
nine others, including four American contractors and one member of the US military who went through concussion protocol.
That day, about 14 rockets were fired toward US and coalition forces in Erbil, in northern Iraq. At the time, Psaki said Biden and his administration "reserve the right to respond in a manner and at a time of our choosing."

She warned that "we will respond in a way that's calculated on our timetable, and using a mix of tools, seen and unseen."
"What we will not do, and what we've seen in the past, is lash out and risk an escalation that plays into the hands of Iran by further destabilizing Iraq, and that is our priority," Psaki added.
That attack was the first of three that came in rapid succession.

Over the weekend, at least four rockets struck Balad Air Base north of Baghdad, where a US defense company works on Iraqi combat aircraft.
Then on Monday, two rockets landed in Bahgdad's international zone, where many foreign embassies are located. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Strikes could complicate diplomatic efforts with Iran
The US strikes come as Washington and Tehran position themselves for negotiations about Iran's nuclear program, potentially complicating an already fragile process.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh denied any ties to the February 15 attack in Erbil, and Iran has not claimed responsibility for any of the other strikes. "While these rumors are strongly rejected, the dubious attempt to attribute it to Iran is also strongly condemned," Khatibzadeh said, according to a February 16 report by Iran's state official news agency Mehr.

The US strike could create tension with lawmakers who would otherwise back Biden's agenda and whose support he will need going forward.
"This makes President Biden the fifth consecutive US president to order strikes in the Middle East," said Rep. Ro Khanna, a California Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. "There is absolutely no justification for a president to authorize a military strike that is not in self-defense against an imminent threat without congressional authorization. We need to extricate from the Middle East, not escalate."

"The President should not be taking these actions without seeking explicit authorization instead of relying on broad, outdated"
Authorization for Use of Military Force laws, Khanna said. "I spoke against endless war with Trump, and I will speak out against it when
we have a Democratic President."

The military last struck Kata'ib Hezbollah sites in March 2020, after a rocket attack blamed on the Iranian-backed militia killed two US service members and a British medic and injured 14 others. The attack targeted Camp Taji, an Iraqi base that hosts coalition forces engaged in the fight against ISIS.

In response to the deadly rocket attack, the US struck five sites belonging to Kata'ib Hezbollah that were used for storing advanced weaponry provided by Iran, the commander of Central Command, Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, said at the time.
"We assess that each location stored weapons that could enable lethal operations against US and coalition forces in Iraq. We also assess that the destruction of these sites will degrade Kata'ib Hezbollah's ability to conduct future attacks," McKenzie said.

[url=https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/hunter-biden/index.html]Hunter Biden had a controversial affair with his brother Beau's grieving widow Hallie, while exchanging raunchy texts, 'partying', and even renting a house with her sister, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.
Hallie Biden's older sister, Elizabeth Secundy, who was recently separated from her husband of 15 years, referred to Hunter as her 'prince' and told him she loved him, in a series of text messages dating back to 2016.
The pair's relationship was revealed in files and emails recovered from Hunter's laptop - the contents of which became public last year after it was abandoned at a Delaware computer shop.
While Hunter has promised to reveal details of his personal life and struggles with alcohol and drugs in his upcoming memoir, Beautiful Things, it is unclear whether Hunter has included details of his relationship with Secundy.
The embattled father-of-five, now 51, split with his first wife Kathleen in 2015. When his brother Beau died of brain cancer that year, he became close to his grieving sister-in-law.
He and Hallie became a couple in 2016, according to an interview Hunter gave to the New Yorker two years ago.
The unconventional relationship was first acknowledged publicly in March 2017, with Joe Biden issuing a statement giving his blessing to Hunter and Hallie, 46.
But emails and texts from Hunter's abandoned laptop, logged on spreadsheets and reviewed by DailyMail.com, reveal his romantic relationship with his sister-in-law was even more complicated and scandalous.

Love triangle: Hunter Biden raised some eyebrows in 2017 after it was revealed he began dating his brother Beau's widow Hallie (left) shortly after his death in 2015. DailyMail.com can reveal the 51-year-old father had also exchanged sexual text messages with Hallie's sister Elizabeth Secundy (right) during that time

Hunter and first wife Kathleen Biden (pictured together in 2016) married in 1997 and have three daughters together. They reportedly began living separately in 2015 and their divorce was finalized in 2017
[Image: 39491626-9237397-An_email_obtained_by_Da...529028.jpg]+25

An email obtained by DailyMail.com from Hunter's abandoned laptop suggests he had cheated on Hallie early in their relationship. On July 18, 2016, she wrote to Hunter accusing him of being unfaithful and buying another 'expensive gifts' while she had tried to get him help
A text message exchange recovered from the laptop hard drive revealed a sexual conversation between Hunter and Secundy from September 2016 - at the time he would have been dating Hallie.
Hunter offered to teach Secundy 'how to masturbate' and referenced buying her 'panties'.
Secundy, now 49, also referred to Hunter as her 'prince' and told him she loved him in the texts.
Files on the laptop suggest the relationship continued well into 2018, with one document showing they had rented a home together starting in July that year.
Hunter's love life has already been a source of several scandals in the years since his split from his first wife Kathleen, the mother of his three daughters.
After raising some eyebrows for dating his sister-in-law, the former lobbyist was then revealed to have fathered a child with a DC stripper whose paternity he initially denied, and later married his current wife, Melissa, just six days after meeting her in 2019. They too now have a one-year-old child, named after Hunter's late brother.
Hunter found himself in hot water once again in 2020 when his laptop, that he reportedly had left at a Delaware computer store for repairs, fell into the hands of several media organizations and the FBI.
Photos recovered from the device showed him posing with a crack pipe in his mouth and partying with prostitutes.

Documents from the laptop also exposed Hunter's controversial business dealings with Chinese oil giant CEFC, leading to a federal tax fraud investigation and a probe by the Senate Intelligence Committee into undue political influence by the Chinese.
The newly unearthed text messages between Hunter and Secundy could throw him into yet another controversy, and cast doubt on the timeline of his relationships he has previously given in interviews.
Hunter's older brother - Joe Biden's eldest son - Beau died from brain cancer in May 2015 at the age of 46, shaking the family to its core.
Hunter had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for years, with Beau - a former Delaware attorney general - often helping him back to sobriety and encouraging him to go to rehab.
Two months after Beau's death, Hunter fell off the wagon again and moved out of his home after breaking his sobriety pact with his wife Kathleen, according to an interview he gave to the New Yorker in 2019.

Text messages sent from Hunter and Hallie's cell phones in 2016 and 2017, obtained by DailyMail.com, were logged in spreadsheets found on the laptop. Each line shows the telephone number Hunter or Hallie were texting, the time and date of the message, and what the message said. Above, Hunter's messages to Elizabeth are marked 'send' while hers are 'received'
[Image: 39452630-9237397-A_text_message_conversa...476859.jpg]

One conversation with Elizabeth on September 8, 2016 - when Hunter was dating Hallie - shows he suggested they 'shower together by [Facetime] every morning or night' and offered to 'teach' her 'how to masturbate'
[Image: 39452682-9237397-Later_that_night_Hunter...579318.jpg]+25

The messages show Hunter would frequently message Elizabeth late at night. In an exchange above, he playfully tells her off for choosing someone else 'over a FT shower with me'. 'I'm the only prince you know,' he adds, to which she replied: 'indeed'
[Image: 39452682-9237397-September_9_2016-m-84_1...380989.jpg]

On September 9, 2016, Hunter texted Elizabeth telling her he had been up late watching 'bad porno movies like I'm 13', and referred to buying her 'panties'
[Image: 39452622-9237397-The_timing_of_the_messa...389508.jpg]

The timing of the messages suggest Hunter became involved with Elizabeth when he began dating Hallie, his later brother Beau's widow. In a conversation from July 27, 2016, he tells her 'where are you you little sh*t. I miss you'
[Image: 39452622-9237397-The_timing_of_the_messa...438317.jpg]

It is unclear if Hallie was aware of their relationship at this time, however, in a message sent to Elizabeth on August 4, 2016, Hunter advises her to spend time with her 'sister' and 'search your conscience'
[Image: 39452622-9237397-image-m-73_1613665043946.jpg]

The text conversations suggest Elizabeth had been strapped for cash as she repeatedly asked Hunter for help. In August 2016, she asked him to send her 'more money'
[Image: 39452632-9237397-money_transfer-m-123_1613667959662.jpg]

In another text message - from September 2016 - Elizabeth tells Hunter his 'transfer went through' but suggests she is still in the red

In a group conversation between Hallie, Hunter and Elizabeth, from April 26, 2017, Elizabeth asks her sister and lover to 'please hire me now', adding: 'I hate asking for money everyday. It's the worst feeling'

One text message conversation from November 2017 showed an argument between Hunter and Hallie during which he threatened to go off the deep end. Above Hunter writes: 'By the way I'm going to have 5 strippers naked and admiring my d**k back to my hotel tonight and I'm going to smoke crack and drink enough to kill and [sic] elephant and put your kids robbed over the phone and wake them up and assure them that your (sic) not as bad a person as you seem. Let's call [redacted] together and we can patch [redacted] in so they can see their new daddy.'
The couple's divorce papers say they formally separated in October 2015, but it wasn't until December the following year that Kathleen officially filed to end their marriage.
Files recovered from Hunter's laptop show the president's son drafted several long, emotional messages to his friends and family he was arguing with, and saved them as notes on his computer.
In one undated note, Hunter refers to his ex-wife accusing him of 'f***ing' Hallie the day after her husband died.
'It really really was devastating to me that you adopted Kathleen's narrative: 'Dad and Aunt Hallie (K's words exactly to me tonight on phone with girls in room) were F***ING the day after Uncle Beau died,' he wrote.
It is unclear who the note was addressed to and whether Hunter ended up sending it.
Another email also revealed Hallie had accused Hunter of being unfaithful to her early on in their relationship, while she had been trying to get him help for substance abuse.
The email appears to contradict Hunter's previous statement about when he began his relationship with Hallie. In a 2019 interview with The New Yorker Hunter claimed their romantic relationship began in the fall of 2016.
But the email suggests Hallie and Hunter were already romantically involved in July of that year.
'Hunter, you cheated on me,' Hallie wrote in an email dated July 18, 2016.
'You continued to cheat on me while I worked with [redacted] etc to get you help. Not only did you cheat on me, Viagra and Cialis, you actually bought her expensive gifts.
'I am stronger than you think. I'm not standing by while you treat me like dirt.'

The price of food and insane electric bills

From what I have read and heard the prices for food will increase by at least 30% in the next few months.. Not necessarily where I am, as rice is rice, and everyone has chickens.. I still can have a good lunch for around $1.25 even at the golf course.. My worry is inflation and the dollar crashing... Maybe not a worry as much as a concern.

I have to wonder what the prices at Texas Road house (my favorite Steak House) will be by the end of the year ? hahha

[England] Superstore Nazis Are Here To Help, Just Wear The Badge.
Posted by: BIAD - 02-22-2021, 04:34 PM - Forum: Europe - Replies (8)

Here's one that's a few days old and the video was taken somewhere in the North-East of England. Morrisons is a
large shopping outlet and one of the big three food-service outlets.

The main take from the footage is that the female Supervisor of Morrisons Supermarket states that identifying a
customer who is medically-exempt from wearing a face-mask is actually company policy and yet, the official line
is that it isn't.

The other take from the video is that the male Security 'Store Marshall' is holding a roll of the stickers...
I doubt if they're home-made.

The supermarket giant has explained the truth behind the viral 'yellow sticker policy' claims.

'Supermarket giant Morrisons has clarified its rules after it was claimed it had been forcing shoppers who
are exempt from wearing a mask to wear yellow stickers in stores. The supermarket has today been trending
on Twitter, with some shoppers even threatening to boycott it as a result.

However, Manchester Evening News can confirm that Morrisons does not have such a policy in place in any of
its stores.

An official Morrisons spokesperson told us: "We can confirm that this is very much an isolated incident and not
Morrisons Policy. We're sorry the customer has had this experience, as our store marshals are well trained and
understanding of those who are medically exempt.

"We're following government guidelines to keep our colleagues and customers safe. Those who are offered a face
covering and decline to wear one won’t be allowed to shop at Morrisons, unless they are medically exempt.
"We're also part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard scheme, so any customers with a hidden disability who
would like a lanyard can get these in store too. But customers aren't obliged to do so.

"This is so that colleagues and customers inside the store are aware that the customer is medically exempt."
Morrisons has also confirmed that it is investigating a video which appeared to show a man being told to wear an
exemption sticker...'
