The First Presidential Debate; Your impressions.. |

For those of you that have watched the first Presidential Debate between Trump & Clinton, I am undoubtedly curious...did anyone win?
We won't know if it made a difference in the polls before the end of the week but I do have a feeling that no one's gained anything after last night. People preferring Hillary still prefer Hillary, people preferring Trump still prefer Trump and the undecided are still...undecided.
As a Canadian who will obviously not be voting for neither of them comes this November, I tried to look at this debate with neutral eyes. And I think that it didn't come close to being anything productive..or increasingly knowledgeable in a way that would make me gain any IQ points on both political platforms plans.
Actually, neither of them had clear plans on much of anything, really. Mrs Clinton seems to be surfing the wave of the status quo, following in the footsteps of what's already been done by your current Administration. Mr Trump on the other hand, had much to say about what could work and what didn't but had no specific plans mentioned at no point, nowhere in that debate.
Oh. And the Moderator sucked. My opinion. Letting Trump interrupt Clinton every time she had her say was clearly out of his reach. Asking a question about why Trump said that she didn't have a Presidential look had nothing to do - whatsoever - with the topics of the night; merely a direct attack at Trump, and God knows that Mrs Clinton has plenty of subjects that could also be personally attacked.
I also think that Trump missed a few good opportunities to nail Clinton to the wall, like she did to him when he opened the door on her 'stamina'..for example, he could have nailed her on a few doors open about Benghazi..but failed to do so.
Personally, I think that Trump captained the boat for the first half hour but went on different tangents after that. Lack of preparation comes to mind. Clinton, on the other hand, was prepared, almost on a scripted basis. He clearly was not.
Don't get me wrong, I feel for you, my American friends, as you have a tough choice ahead of you, one that will decide on what happens in the next four years, one that every citizen of the world will look at with uncertainty.
Neither are Saints. Both are obvious liars, one from a political background, the other from a business one.
You think anyone gained anything last night?
Curious Canuck would like to know : )

Huge Quantities of Cocaine Discovered in Coca-Cola Shipment |

Coca-Cola was named back in 1885 for its two "medicinal" ingredients: extract of coca leaves and kola nuts.
The original Coca-Cola formula is believed to have contained traces of cocaine -- just how much cocaine was originally in the formulation is hard to determine, but the drink undeniably contained some cocaine in its early days
Quote:In the 19th century, the Coca-Cola company used small quantities of cocaine to give their soda an addictive kick. However, they discontinued its use around the turn of the 20th century, and it’s now been over 100 years since the company used actual cocaine to pep up their caffeinated product.
But employees at a Coca-Cola factory discovered a surprising blast from the past this week when they opened a shipment of Coca-Cola brand orange juice and found not concentrated juice powder, but cocaine.
The BBC reports that workers at the factory, located in southern France, found about 816 pounds of cocaine hidden in a concentrated orange juice shipment from South America. Prosecutor Xavier Tarabeux told the BBC that the massive cocaine shipment “has a street value of 50 million euros” and called the discovery—one of the largest drug shipments ever discovered in France—“a very bad surprise.”
The employees immediately called the police, who are now investigating how the cocaine ended up in France. Investigator Jean-Denis Malgras told news site Var-Matin that the factory’s employees had already been ruled out as the culprits.
Linky
Now then...is that left over cocaine from days gone by (late 1800's/early 1900) that was discovered in a shipment from South America?
Or something else....
Like recent drug smuggling (???)
Regardless, 816 pounds is quite the find!
Or loss, depending on how one wants to look at it

Well, this is an interesting perspective on a well documented piece of history. I now have very different visions of Nazis floating around in my head.
Quote:The German writer Norman Ohler lives on the top floor of a 19th-century apartment building on the south bank of the river Spree in Kreuzberg, Berlin. Visiting him there is a vertiginous experience. For one thing, he works – and likes to entertain visitors – in what he calls his “writing tower”, a flimsy-seeming, glass-walled turret perched right on the very edge of the roof. (Look down, if you dare, and you will see his little boat moored far below.) For another, there is the fact that from this vantage point it is possible to discern two Berlins, one thrusting and breezy, the other spectral and grey. To our left, busy with traffic, is the Oberbaum Bridge, where there was once a cold war checkpoint, and beyond it the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall, its doleful length rudely interrupted by the block of luxury flats that went up in 2013. As for the large building immediately opposite, these days it’s the home of Universal Music. Not so very long ago, however, it was the GDR’s egg storage facility.
Does all this press on Ohler as he sits at his desk, the light bouncing off the screen of his laptop? Is it ghostly sometimes? “Yes, it is strange,” he says, smiling at my giddiness. But then he has long believed in a certain kind of time travel. “I remember the 90s. The wall had just come down, and I was experimenting with party drugs like ecstasy and LSD. The techno scene had started up, and there were all these empty buildings in the east where the youth [from east and west] would meet for the first time. They were hardcore, some of those guys from the east – they didn’t understand foreigners at all – and the ecstasy helped them to lose some of their hatred and suspicion. Sometimes, then, you could step into a room, and you could just see the past. Of course, it’s not like that now. I don’t take drugs any more. But I can remember it, and maybe that was why I was able to write this book.”
The book in question is The Total Rush – or, to use its superior English title, Blitzed – which reveals the astonishing and hitherto largely untold story of the Third Reich’s relationship with drugs, including cocaine, heroin, morphine and, above all, methamphetamines (aka crystal meth), and of their effect not only on Hitler’s final days – the Führer, by Ohler’s account, was an absolute junkie with ruined veins by the time he retreated to the last of his bunkers – but on the Wehrmacht’s successful invasion of France in 1940. Published in Germany last year, where it became a bestseller, it has since been translated into 18 languages, a fact that delights Ohler, but also amazes him.
It’s not only that he is – as Der Spiegel helpfully pointed out – a non-historian (the author of three novels and the co-writer of the Wim Wenders film Palermo Shooting, this is his first work of nonfiction). It’s that there was anything new to be said at all. Arrange all the books that have been written about the Nazis end to end and they’d be longer than the Spree.
“I guess drugs weren’t a priority for the historians,” he says. “A crazy guy like me had to come along.” Still, crazy or not, he has done a remarkable job. If Blitzed is gripping, it is also convincing. Ian Kershaw, the British historian who is probably the world’s leading authority on Hitler and Nazi Germany, has described it as “a serious piece of scholarship”.

Physics Breakthrough: Quantum Cat State Finally Captured on Camera |

Well, it looks like Schrödinger's cat is alive and well, or is he??
Well, this sounds cool and it would probably be even cooler if I could understand half of what it is saying, and the physics behind it.
It also sounds scary to me, I have visions of lots of Dr Frankensein's around the world carrying out weird and whacky experiments behind closed door.
If anyone thinks that cloning started and ended with Dolly the sheep, think again - that technology has doubtless been continued, both officially and unofficially, and it is the unofficial tests that scare me.
Quote:In brief -
A breakthrough experiment captured in a movie one of quantum physics' most bizarre demonstrations of the nature of subatomic particles: Schrödinger's cat. This may help us understand molecular behavior better, and how they affect living systems.
Demonstrating Quantum Effects
A new study by a team of scientists from Stanford University has captured the “cat state” in action (or inaction), in a highly detailed stop-motion movie showing the inner workings of simple iodine molecules. The study has been accepted for publication by Physical Review Letters.
The phenomena captures lasts for just 30 millionths of a billionth of a second. The Stanford scientists used optical green X-ray laser light to zap a two-molecule iodine atom. This sudden burst of energy split the atom into two, one was in an excited state and the other was not, but both existing simultaneously — the “cat state.” Although true for any molecule when zapped with lasers, this is the first time this phenomenon was clearly seen and recorded.
The “cat state” molecules were exposed to a second burst of X-ray light, which caused the excited and non-excited version of the molecule to scatter and then recombine. The X-ray image created looked like hologram of concentric rings.

Well, this does not really surprise me, to be honest. There have been a few cases recently where cameras have shown "naughty" behaviour by those fine fine upstanding men.
Can't have them portrayed in a bad light now can we, so we will keep the information private, for the public's own safety.
Quote:Police Department of the fatal encounter between officers and Keith Lamont Scott could be the last such footage that North Carolina authorities share with the public
Scott died on September 20. In the five days since the shooting, protesters have demanded that Charlotte Police release video footage of the incident.
Initially, Police Chief Kerr Putney chose not to immediately release the camera footage, only doing so amid pressure from the public. Release of another video from one of Scott's family members also added to the calls for police to release their footage.
Putney's decision may be one of the final times a police chief will relent to public pressure.
Charlotte police release video of Keith Scott shooting 01:43
That's because a new law that goes into effect on October 1, exactly one week after the Scott footage was released, is set to block the public from obtaining similar kinds of recordings from body cameras or dashboard cameras.
The whole story?
New North Carolina law blocks release of police cam footage 01:31
Gov. Pat McCrory, who signed the legislation two months ago, has said the law would balance "public trust" with the rights and safety of police officers.
In an interview this week with CNN, the Republican governor and one-time mayor of Charlotte doubled down his support for the measure.
It's about "respecting the public, respecting the family, and also respecting the constitutional rights of the officer," he said.
"One viewpoint of a video doesn't often always tell the whole story," McCrory said. "The angles can make a difference, and [you're] not hearing [the sound] often in the video, so that [adds to] the complexity. The video is one piece of evidence. We have to be careful."

Quote:Quote:Subject: homeless man
Quote:This morning I was sitting on a park bench next to a homeless man. I started a conversation by asking him how he ended up this way.
He said, "Up until last week, I still had it all. I had plenty to eat, my clothes were washed and pressed. I had a roof over my head. I had TV and internet, and I went to the gym, the pool, and the library. I was working on my MBA online. I had no bills and no debt. I even had full medical coverage."
I felt sorry for him, so I asked, "What happened? Drugs? Alcohol? Divorce?"
"Oh no, nothing like that," he said. "I just got out of prison."

Quote:'BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE'
Clueless iPhone 7 owners tricked into DRILLING hole in their phones to ‘get a headphone jack’
No. Not the Biggest, I have to ask, Have You Reproduced?
Quote:A fake YouTube video claiming to show users how to get the much-missed sound input has gone viral – with many unknowing victims following its lead.
Owners have copied the video’s instructions to place the phone in a clamp and take a 3.5mm drill to where the headphone hole used to be.
Needless to say drilling a hole into your iPhone will leave you with a very broken handset – and not the promised addition.
Apple’s newest model has ditched the jack in favour of bluetooth headphones to make more room for internal hardware.
But customers have been left angry at the decision – with some taking extreme measures to bring back the old hole.
As a result some desperate viewers were duped into destroying their new handsets with the cruel DIY tip.
Users were told to take a 3.5mm drill to make a hole in the handset where a headphone jack used to appear
REALLY, REALLY!
Published on Sep 17, 2016
This video is for those who don't want to get $159 wireless airpods or have to insert your headphones into an adapter every time you listen to music.
Quote:Furious James Ceja commented on the video: “I tried this and ended up with display destruction and it not working… I really committed the biggest mistake of my life by watching this video.”
David Iriarte added: “A friend of mine told me it worked for him, but my iPhone won’t turn on after I drilled the hole for the jack.
“I checked and it was the 3.5mm drill, so I made no mistake there! What happened? Any of you have the same problem?”
Toekneechair questioned: “Ok I am sure it’s in the comments somewhere but my friend told me to ask what size drill bit am I supposed to use?
“Also I don’t have that clamp thingy, can I or my friend hold it while we drill? I don’t want to ruin my phone.
“Thanks for all the help guys…”
Clamp Thingy!
Quote:Instead of rushing to help the clueless users, cruel commenters have instead tricked them with false advice.
Mark Johnson wrote: “Since some people are still having issues, a bit of advice. The guy seems to have missed the part about cleaning the phone after drilling.
“In order to clean out the 3.5mm socket of debris from the drill you need to soak the phone in soapy water for around 15 minutes so all the drill shavings are loosened.
“Then give the phone a shake once you’re done. Hope this helps someone :)”
Ninjapleaz added: “If you want me to tell you how to fix it, just reply to this comment with your credit card number, expiration date and three digit code on the back… and I’ll tell you how to fix it.”
Apple ditched the headphone jack in favour of bluetooth headphones, which every handset comes equipped with.
Users can also buy headphonse that have a ‘Lightning Jack’ to plug into the phone’s charger port.
These won’t be usable with any other device – whereas the bluetooth ones will.
These Aren't Clueless User's, They're Sheep! I would Be that some of them Did sent that person their C/C number and all the information asked for.
