A year on from another 'mental-health' situation and they finally faces Noori to life imprisonment.
Since they're not saying he'll be spending the rest of his life in  mental institution, one may suspect
he's healed from his malady.

pleaded guilty to murder. Saeed Noori injured 17 people when he rammed his mother's vehicle
into pedestrians on 21 December last year in Melbourne.
One of the casualties, 83-year-old Antonios Crocaris, died in hospital eight days later.

The 33-year-old, who is now an Australian citizen after arriving in the country as a refugee from
Afghanistan in 2004, faces a life sentence after entering his guilty plea at Victoria state supreme
court.

He also admitted to 11 counts of recklessly causing serious injury and five counts of conduct
endangering life, which carry maximum sentences of 15 and 10 years respectively.

At an earlier hearing, it was revealed Noori had accessed images and video of violent events
in Europe and the US, including terror attacks. However, he was not charged with terror offences.

His lawyers previously told the court that Noori suffers from mental health problems and it was
likely he had not eaten or slept for days before the attack.
He will be sentenced in February.

It was the second time a car had been driven into pedestrians in Melbourne in 2017.
In January, six people were killed and more than 30 were injured by a vehicle driven up a busy
shopping area.

A supreme court jury last month convicted James Gargasoulas on 33 charges, including six counts
of murder. Gargasoulas will be sentenced in January. That incident was also not judged to be a
terror attack...'

Study establishes extent of human brain excited by specific dose of electricity

Although not involved in conscious thought or decision making, the stomach brain enables the gut to make its own decisions regarding the behavior of the digestive system.

And the stomach has plenty to tell the brain as well. Research shows that about 90% of the fibers in the vagus nerve—the main nerve for the gut—carry information from the gut to the brain.

It turns out that “butterflies” and that “sinking feeling” in the stomach have a neurological basis. Neurons lining the stomach are filled with neurotransmitters, chemicals that help nerve cells communicate with one another.

One key neurotransmitter is serotonin, which plays a major role in mood regulation. While serotonin is also found in the brain, 95% of the body’s supply is in the stomach.

This abundance explains why drugs like Prozac, known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), help elevate mood by increasing serotonin levels but may also cause stomach disturbances.

Growing interest in the stomach brain has spawned a field of study known as neurogastroenterology, which will likely reveal even more exciting findings about the stomach’s IQ in the future.

What are the three brains and their functions?

The first of the three brains is the obvious one. It is the head brain, and the master of processes such as thinking, perception, and cognition. It recognises things, makes meaning of them, creates narratives and masters language. Head based language sounds like this: “I think”, “I reckon”, or “I understand”.

The second is the heart. Ask a person where they feel an emotion, and their hand will land directly above their heart. Nobody gestures to their elbow. We know intrinsically that this is the place that processes deep emotion. What else is the domain of the heart brain? Here lie our values, along with the process of emoting, the process of valuing and the way we feel about relationships. Heart based language centres on “I feel” or on the expression of the deep emotions and values that lie in the heart brain.

The third is the gut. Here we find our core identity. What is me, what is not me? This is the domain of the gut brain. It is also responsible for safety and protection. Our gut is extremely important in upholding our immune system, but it also takes care of self-preservation, fear, anxiety, mobility and action. Gut based language says things like, “it takes guts” or, “let’s do it.”

So what can a poo sample reveal?
Let’s start with some of the more obvious aspects of poo-ology: just the presence of fresh faecal material in an animal’s enclosure assures us that the animal’s gastrointestinal tract is moving.
Constipation has serious health consequences for any animal, including potential toxicities, so we need to ensure that an animal is passing faeces as often as it should be.

But this isn’t always as simple as it sounds.

Some snakes only pass faeces once every three months, while the world’s smallest bat, the bumblebee bat has poo that is apparently as small as a pin head, making it very hard to see.

So we need to establish our “species norms” before we start using poo as an indicator in any type of health check.

Another common use of faeces in zoos is for disease monitoring.

Samples can be analysed for internal parasites, such as worms and pathogens (for example bacteria or fungi) that may indicate gastrointestinal problems or even zoonotic diseases – those that can be spread from animals to humans.

Many zoos will implement a routine faecal screening programme for their animals and this allows zoo vets to respond quickly if symptoms of disease or parasites are found, often before clinical symptoms of ill health are shown by the animal.

It is also a valuable tool for monitoring the effect of any treatments, such as de-wormers.

Some of the research projects that I’ve been involved in recently have investigated aspects of the use of de-wormers in cheetahs and support a diagnosis-based approach.

This means that, instead of routinely de-worming the animals, we should first check to see if they have any parasites present.

Likewise, poo is important for monitoring zoo animals’ welfare as we can measure hormones called glucocorticoids and their metabolites which provide an indicator of excitement and/or stress.

By performing long-term studies of the concentrations and patterns of these hormones in animal poo, and combining them with behavioural data, we can learn a great deal about how a zoo animal is experiencing its captive environment.

By monitoring the excretion of sex steroids, we can also start to understand whether females are displaying normal reproductive cycles, such as in captive rhinos, or even finding out if they are pregnant, such as in captive felids.

Rather less savoury is coprophagia.

This is the term given to the behaviour of eating faeces, either the animal’s own, or that of others.

Some species have digestive adaptations that require coprophagia to be part of their normal feeding behaviour.

A well-known example is the domestic rabbit.

In a zoo setting, coprophagia is also an important element of the nutritional physiology of a range of herbivores including capybaras, some lemurs, mara, and beavers.

However, in some species, coprophagia is considered an abnormal behaviour which may have nutritional origins or be indicative of compromised welfare.

Regardless of how it is used, though, those caring for animals should never underestimate the importance of a poo.

That’s when conservative author Peter Schweitzer and The New York Times documented how Bill Clinton collected hundreds of thousands of dollars in Russian speaking fees and his charitable foundation collected millions in donations from parties interested in the deal while Hillary Clinton presided on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.

Jeffery Epstein, allegedly, used his private plane, the Lolita Express, to "entertain" guests with underage girls, and possibly boys too.  He also, allegedly, used his private island for sex parties and had cameras set up in private rooms to record the incident to use as blackmail against prominent businessmen and politicians as a way to extort and control them in business and government.
He settled a couple of cases out of court, but other victims aren't happy about that and want to reopen the case(s).

When the deal finally came to light years later, it immediately raised suspicions that Epstein — a man who counted Bill Clinton and Donald Trump among his friends and had some of the finest legal talent in America as his lawyers — had used his wealth and political connections to win special treatment.

Those allegations flared anew in recent weeks as news organizations, led by The Miami Herald, published interviews with the alleged victims and took a closer look at Alexander Acosta, who as the U.S. attorney in Miami in 2008 approved the secret deal. Acosta is now Trump’s secretary of labor.

On Tuesday, a lawsuit that many had hoped would expose some of the lurid allegations against Epstein by putting some of his accusers on the stand ended abruptly in a settlement just as jury selection was about to begin.

But the attempt to get to the bottom of the Epstein case and how he managed to get such a light sentence is not over: Some of his accusers are pursuing a separate legal effort to nullify the plea agreement and, they hope, expose him to federal prosecution again.

“That injustice needs to be addressed and will be addressed,” said Jack Scarola, one of the attorneys lined up against Epstein. “There is no justification for the broad scope of immunity that was granted.”

Epstein, 65, reached the non-prosecution deal with Acosta’s office while under investigation on suspicion of sexually abusing at least 40 teenage girls. Under the deal, he pleaded guilty to two state charges, did his time in jail, paid settlements to many of the alleged victims and registered as a sex offender.

He could have faced a far more severe penalty if federal prosecutors had pursued a draft 53-page indictment that was never filed and included sex trafficking charges.

Some of Epstein’s accusers are now arguing that their rights were trampled under a federal law that says crime victims must be informed about plea bargains.

One of Epstein’s lawyers, Roy Black, has said there was no conspiracy to violate victims’ rights, and the plea agreement was “no sweetheart deal by any stretch of the imagination.”

Even if the plea bargain is nullified, the final decision on bringing charges would rest solely with the Justice Department.

On Tuesday, Epstein settled a defamation lawsuit brought against him by a lawyer for some of the accusers, Bradley Edwards, who said Epstein tried to derail his representation of the women and ruin his career. In settling, Epstein apologized and agreed to pay an undisclosed amount.

Edwards said some of the accusers — some of whom say they were 13 or 14 when they were molested — were prepared to testify in the lawsuit and may yet get their day in federal court.

“They’re willing to talk. They want to share their stories,” Edwards said.

Congressional Democrats are calling for an internal Justice Department investigation.

Rep. Lois Frankel, who represents the Palm Beach area, said Tuesday that Epstein “allegedly had dozens and dozens of young, vulnerable women, young women taken to his house where they were sexually exploited.”

“I think what has been equally shocking is what I call an extreme minimal punishment for this man without really any public explanation as to why this happened,” Frankel added.

Acosta has not commented about the case during the recent media coverage. He was asked briefly about the non-prosecution agreement at his Senate confirmation hearing.

“At the end of the day, based on the evidence, professionals within a prosecutor’s office decided that a plea that guarantees someone goes to jail, that guarantees he register generally and guarantees other outcomes, is a good thing,” he said.

According to court papers, Epstein had a Palm Beach mansion where girls were brought for what they were sometimes told were massage sessions. He allegedly had female fixers who would look for suitable girls, some of them recruited from Eastern Europe and other parts of the world.

Before the scandal broke, Epstein was friends with Trump and had visited the real estate developer’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump told interviewers that Epstein was “a great guy.” Records also show Clinton flew on Epstein’s jet more than two dozen times.
One young woman alleged in court documents that Epstein shared her with his friends, including Britain’s Prince Andrew, a charge denied by Buckingham Palace.

Epstein’s legal team at various times included such big names as Whitewater prosecutor Kenneth Starr and Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz.
Neither Trump nor Clinton has been accused of any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
