Come Celebrate Spooky Season With Me
#1
The nights are getting cooler here, I'm starting to feel that crisp feeling in the air. It's seems like it is upon us, my favorite time of the year!

[Image: 4a94c96a61fd21faedaac981c8d3172befea96e9...f596_1.jpg]

So I thought it would be fun to share memes, stories, videos EVERYTHING spooky season!

So if you have a frightening tale or two or a scary video that you would like to share, bring them here! I need them in my life lol!

Of course funny Autumn memes would be welcome too. Sometimes a little dose of funny can help you sleep better after getting a good fright.

So grab a sweater, if you don't have one I have an extra and sit by the fire. There's mead, I haven't opened it yet but I made it with a recipe I got from @Ninurta so it has to be good and let's see if we can scare up a good time.

Fall is my favorite time of the year as well.

When my children were still at that age where they were into Halloween, I always had a party for them. When they went from children to teens, the party became a party not just for the children but for the adults as well. We had a grand time back then.

Now I live way out in the middle of nowhere and the homes are way too far apart for trick or treaters, and most old folk out here don't take kindly to strange folk walking up their driveways dressed in costumes. So, we have community gatherings. While I serve regularly with most community festivities, I leave the Halloween one to the children and the parents. I passed the baton on that one.

For every one person that read this post. About 7.99 billion have not.

Yet I still post.  tinyinlove

I miss the gatherings we had in the small town I grew up in. There wasn’t enough money to buy costumes so my mom made them for my brother and I. We’d usually win the costume contests. My mom made really good ones. My favorites were an owl and a dog cheerleader costume. I wish I still had them but I was little and since I liked them so much I wore them while playing outside until they finally fell apart.

We live a little far for trick or treaters too but I decorate my house and yard anyway because I love it so much. I always get so sad when it’s time to take it down that I actually started leaving both a small foam pumpkin and a black cat figurine our year round.

I had hubby get all my fall stuff out of storage yesterday so I can start decorating today.

We did a 100 word "Campfire Tales" contest over at ATS once...

Here was my wee entry:

There Are No Rules

The wood crackles, with rising hackles... a chill is in the air.
The Witches' cackles, and howling Jackals... contribute to despair.

A tree bough creaks, my knees feel weak... a shiver on my spine.
As circus freaks, and creepy geeks, stalk the neighborhood... just like mine.

A bat in flight, on darkest night, the moon... a merest glow,
Seeks neck to bite, there's no respite, as words (like blood) doth flow.

Hook-Hand, Phantoms, Ghosts and Ghouls... no wonder my face pales.
For it's not random, there are no rules, when it comes to Campfire Tales.

THE END

Thank you @"gordi". I’m glad you thought to put that link here. Yes! Lots of good stories there.

Hopefully there will be some interest in doing another one of those story contests soon. I love reading them.

I wrote a Halloween Story for a contest ages ago... I was SURE that I'd already posted it here somewhere but can't find it anywhere, so I've just re-posted it!

I forgot to ask if you, personally had seen anything really spooky @"VioletDove"  ??

I got the fright of my life whilst walking on the edge of the woods round here a while back - I STILL don't know what it was was, but it was very VERY BIG and walked UPRIGHT!!! My goosebumps are rising again now just thinking about it. ugh.

I uploaded a video of what I saw that day.... it's quite hard to spot, away on the edge of the treeline moving left to right, but I swear that you can hear it roaring at one point if you turn the sound right up. It was quite scary to see.

ugh, nope, never again!

I believe Gordi keeps them in a huge trunk in his castle by the loch... it's true.
Some say he gathered them from old women of the nearby village who fell in love with his strummed-music and his
roguish smile, others reckon he found them written down on parchment in one the caves where rebels to the English
king sharpened their claymores and whispered of kidnap on midnight highways.

But they're there, ancient yarns of spiteful things breathing slowly under beds and waiting for the candle to be snuffed.
Black hearted and thoughts of misdeed, scribed in a time when the night would blink back to anyone who dared to twitch
a curtain.

That was terrifying!!! I actually jumped. I’m gonna have to send a link to my brother to see if he has seen anything like it  tinywhat

Yes I have seen and heard lots of spooky stuff throughout my life. I’ve talked a little about them before. The two that stood out the most for me were from when I was pretty young and I can still see them in my mind just as clear.

One was from when I saw something sitting on the foot of the bed my brother was sleeping in. We lived in a very small house with only one bedroom so my parents put a bed in the living room for my brother. I usually slept in their room but on this night I slept on the sofa. I looked over where the moonlight was shining in and there was something crouched there. It looked like Yoda but not a nice Yoda. I probably woke up the whole neighborhood with my shrieking.

Some years later after we’d moved to a different house I again looked toward the window and outside there was a dark shadow of something very tall standing there.

As you can guess, I try not to look toward the windows at nighttime anymore.

I also posted this a while back. This was a strange noise I heard https://rogue-nation3.com/showthread.php?tid=8469

@"VioletDove"

I absolutely adore Spooky Season and it began for me at the beginning of this month. Already we have visited the home of the Pope Lick Monster and the infamous Louisville Witch Tree. Yesterday we went for a hike in the hills around Waverly Sanitorium (we also got married in Waverly Park near the sanitorium several years ago) and very soon we are making a pilgrimage to the very haunted Cave Hill Cemetery! Also right now I am in the middle of a craft project- making a huggable teddy bear sized voodoo doll!  tinyinbiglove

I have a full sized skeleton (Cleetus) whose wardrobe changes with the seasons and several skulls on display year round but recently I added 6 small skeleton animals and a "Grim Reaper" skeleton (who is guarding my kitchen)- and they will also stay year round.

Okay, maybe Spooky Season is year round at Kdog's Castle but at least it's never boring!  tinylaughing

All of your adventures sound so exciting! I’ve been trying to talk my hubby into going with me to a cemetery close to here that is in the middle of nowhere. No luck yet but he’ll give in eventually.

I hope you share pics of your voodoo doll when you’re finished and of Cleetus and the gang too. I’ve just started decorating. One of the first things I grabbed is my skeleton buzzard. He’s perched on the top of my entertainment center. The more stuff I put out the more excited I get.

So I thought it would be fun to share memes, stories, videos EVERYTHING spooky season!

Now, now... It's not an "either/or" proposition. I've known some pretty hot witches in my day, and it wasn't because they were being burned at a stake!

Quote:So grab a sweater, if you don't have one I have an extra and sit by the fire. There's mead, I haven't opened it yet but I made it with a recipe I got from @Ninurta so it has to be good and let's see if we can scare up a good time.

If the mead was made from one of my recipes, then I advise sitting down for the duration of drinking it, and for a few hours afterwards...

Here's a video for you from my "Weirdness in My World" thread. Yes, that's me on my deck. It was taken by one of my surveillance cameras August 23, last year. I know I ain't wearing a shirt - don't judge me! That's how I used to bait in the hot witches! It don't work so well any more for some reason or other...

I did not hear a thing at the time. I was only when I reviewed the video that I heard the growl. There is another video in that thread of a big ol' "orb", but it has two glitches in it where the  video compiler transposed frames in two places while it was recording it, I fixed those frames and made another video to make the flight smoother, and if I can find the fixed video, I'll post it here, too... but it's edited to fix the transposed frames in the right order, so a purist would say "nah, it's edited, so fake". But it ain't.

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’
