Even as liberal as I am, I don’t see a universal basic income as something that would work, at least not in the United States. How would it be paid for? With people getting that, many would choose not to work at all and we would have critical shortages in workers.

I mean, outwardly it sounds wonderful, but I think that would make our country’s problems worse. The money will have to come from somewhere, something essential that will cripple a lot of the country.

I too just dont get this idea. I'm 45 and have seen enough things in life and met enough people to know...once you give people free money, many will simply not work anymore. Many will simply squander it bc it's free, meaning, you havent really earned it and therefore you dont value it the same, and knowing there is a check coming no matter what you do. I dont think this would promote "good" behavior. There is this...silly..notion that if people were free of labor than they would all be doing creative stuff and everywhere would be unicorns jumping on green meadows. Delusional and utopistic concept one I do not need to try out to know it burns.

It can never work in the long run.
