As for my Jim, I have not seen him since March 22, the day of the shutdown. They ran me out at 12:10 when I was with him for lunch. All family members were told to leave by the LA Health Dept Officials (not nursing home staff, they were the ones that warned me)
Never in my mind, did I think it would last this long.
Video chats suck, Jim has the attention of a 5 yr old and there is so much activity going on around him, he doesn't stay focused.
I have found out that since the shutdown, Jim lost nearly 20 pounds. Plus since being hospitalized back in mid-April, they let him get deconditioned due to lack of range of motion, so he no longer has the strength to walk.
The only time I get to see him now, is at the doctors appointment.
Like today, I got to see him and hold his hand for about an hour.
It breaks my heart to see how quickly he is going downhill, and yet, I cannot go see him.
He fell last weekend and had to have 7 stitches in his right eyebrow.
It takes everything I have not to go off and cuss everyone out.
I am scare that Jim -- along with thousands of other nursing home residents-- think that their families have abandoned them. Many are not able to understand what coronavirus is and how our government shut everything down.
Not meaning to bring up politics, love Trump or hate him, I do not give a damn.
What I do give a damn about is Jim.
With Trump, I had a ray of hope that one day very soon, I could go back to seeing my Jim at my leisure, for as long as I want like I use to.
And seeing my Jim is all I care about, sorry if that sounds selfish for those that are happy to see Trump lose.
But with Biden, I no longer have any hope, only despair as his people are talking about more shutdowns and canceling events for next year.
More gloom and doom from the Dems, instead of seeing the positive as Trump Admin does.
My fear -- is something happening to Jim and him thinking I no longer cared to come see him.
I can't help but think he is slowly giving up, as fast as he is declining.

This is effin' ridiculous, after 10 months we know what works and what doesn't , not like it was the first month or 2 ------- but now, a health issue has turned political in nature and I call bullshit on it!!!!!

That is heartbreaking to read to be honest! and no need to apologize for your thoughts and rants, I get it and this is the place to do it. I was thrown into a situation with my Dad being in Hospital a couple of times throughout this, and not being able to be with him because of Covid, luckily for us this only lasted days to a week, but it still hurt and felt unnecessary and cruel! That pales in comparison to what has happened between you and Jim though, honestly my heart goes out to you both, I'm so sorry and I really hope there's light at the end of the tunnel, this thing has ripped a lot of people apart, it's been and still is an utter mess!
