I don't miss Walter.
I realize he was popular at the time, but in my view he was one of the gaslighters of the American public, especially with that little psych trick of "and that's the way it is".
No. That may have been his belief, but IMO it was presumptuous of him to declare that as if it was an unassailable fact, and it was abusive of him to use his status as a network "star" to attempt to direct our thinking.
My father used to retort loudly to the evening news back then. I understand his reaction much better these days.
