Hint, not American news ! - kdog - 11-14-2021 I haven't trusted the news in years. I cruise through all the different news agencies and weed out the truth, if any. It's mostly opinion based anymore. Very little true news anymore. I miss Walter Cronkite . RE: Who you gonna trust ? Hint, not American news ! - GeauxHomeLittleD - 11-14-2021 What news? All we get now is propaganda. I'm surprised that even 29% of the people believe it is still real news. RE: Who you gonna trust ? Right, it is their Opinion of events and you are suppose to accept what they are telling you as Fact, when it is nothing more than what they want you to think. Fake News! RE: Who you gonna trust ? Hint, not American news ! - F2d5thCav - 11-14-2021 @"kdog" I don't miss Walter. I realize he was popular at the time, but in my view he was one of the gaslighters of the American public, especially with that little psych trick of "and that's the way it is". No. That may have been his belief, but IMO it was presumptuous of him to declare that as if it was an unassailable fact, and it was abusive of him to use his status as a network "star" to attempt to direct our thinking. My father used to retort loudly to the evening news back then. I understand his reaction much better these days. Cheers RE: Who you gonna trust ? Hint, not American news ! - Michigan Swamp Buck - 11-14-2021 Trust is earned by having a good track record of unbiased and fact based reporting. The MSM in the states has done the opposite of earning my trust, it's more like they have earned my scorn. I'll be checking out news based in Finland and Kenya, maybe they have earned the trust their people give them (maybe not though). RE: Who you gonna trust ? Your evaluation is something the same MSM struggle to grasp because of their assumed monopoly. Technology is their true enemy and yet, any merging with it is resisted due to the MSM's need for their rules to accepted on this new way of transmitting information. They cannot fathom that you and the public in general, may have a judgment capability that doesn't involve their input. RE: Who you gonna trust ? Maybe they will publish things no one else will. https://www.helsinkitimes.fi/ https://finlandtoday.fi/ https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/category/5/world https://www.the-star.co.ke/news/world/ RE: Who you gonna trust ? Hint, not American news ! - F2d5thCav - 11-16-2021 From what I've seen in Europe, the overseas media isn't much better than American media. Their focus is different, but they too are owned and told to push certain narratives. A big problem in Europe (probably Asia as well) is the existence of old laws that stiffly punish slander and libel. I'm not a fan of either, but the way these laws function "in the real world" is that anytime a critical statement is made of a powerful person or entity, they often have the "pull" to use the legal system to punish those who dare to open their mouths. "Insulting an official" is a crime in at least some of the European countries, and that includes telling them they're useless and corrupt. So when one sees instances of corruption or incompetence in Europe, it is not that the public at large is blind to what is happening. They just don't want big legal bills and the hassle of going to court and possibly being convicted ... not to mention the shunning they'll get from family and friends for pot-stirring. Cheers |
