And there it is. A phrase is born - "knife crime", which apparently is what has replaced "gun crime" in Londonistan. Soon, very soon, there will be calls for "commonsense knife control". Muslims will be exempt of course, because it is a part of their cultural heritage. I'm still mystified as to why they prefer to attack an implement rather than the root of the problem, which is bad people, criminals. Knives, like guns, do not simply walk around under their own power and suddenly jump up of their own volition to stab random folk.
There is no common sense in attacking inanimate objects rather than criminal perpetrators. The is no "gun crime" or "knife crime", there is only "crime". That's like calling a B+E a "crowbar crime" rather than what it is - a burglary. Folks who must add a qualifier have an agenda, and it's not an agenda that is going to make you any safer.
Regarding the young man stabbed for answering a knock at his front door - this is why I NEVER answer the door unarmed. Years ago, during UMWA Union strife which approached a guerrilla warfare situation, a childhood friend of mine was killed for answering his door at around 9 pm one night. Had his head blown clean off with a shotgun blast, and shotgun ballistics are notoriously difficult, if not impossible, to trace... so no arrests were ever made in the incident.
Since that night, I have made a habit of always having a firearm within easy reach, and to never answer a knock at the door unarmed. I don't care who you are, badge or no - if you knock at my door, it's best practice to stand back in the light where I can see your hands. Acting otherwise is hazardous to your health. You may kill me, but I guarantee you will not leave the premises unventilated, and you will, at the very least, be leaking.
ETA: it's interesting to not that murders of young folks has also increased in Lodonistan, just as it has in Chicago and New York and other major US cities. The news here would have us believe it is a uniquely American problem, and all falls back to "easy access to firearms". I wonder how they account for the same phenomena in the UK, where access to firearms is somewhat more restricted?

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.
Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’
