How would such a creature hold a hammer or a drill to build a starship?

Lack of opposable thumbs is the only reason Dolphins don't rule the world - they're a lot smarter than humans are.

That makes sense, no thumbs equates to not being able to eat using one's hands whilst
watching for danger.
This also has an effect on problem-solving.

I'm not touching the dolphin debate, though!!
