I can easily believe there is all kinds of f***ery going on with the virus "controls".

The sad thing is, once these control regimes are done, the virus will still be with us, and then what?

I still have full faith in British resolve to take care of problems - I'm just of the opinion that you folks have a pressing need for more abandoned mine shafts around those parts. Should be a lot of them in Wales, though - is Wales too far to drive with something making a thumping noise in the car boot?

It's true, the mining communities have been devastated and those mines are laying idle.
Any unwanted noises emitting from a car's boot/trunk should be shrouded by the Welshmen

My maternal grandfather's people came from Wales (Griffiths). The first of that branch to wade ashore here was a gent named Eoin Gruffyydd, same as the Welsh actor in "King Arthur", in the company of two of his brothers around 250 years ago. He was the most recent import from the old country into my family tree - the rest had been here a good deal longer. Curiously enough, we have wild leeks around here that we call "ramps", and which we seek out in the spring. I guess all that is left is for me to polish up my singing voice...

... but now you know where the abandoned mine shaft disposal method comes from!

See...? Generations move on and yet the ancient traditions continue.

@"BIAD"  you have my 100% respect, it is a given. You raise awareness and i appreciate people who do that. @"Mystic Wanderer" does that also.

With that being said, dress boy, this is NOT the REAL Britain today. I refuse to accept. People are forming relationships. Marriages. Then a baby shows up, i don't know exactly how that works but it was told to me in human biology classes at school.

People still smile, right? laugh? it is not a death match scene? Not the "survival of the fittest" because then i would be the first one to disappear for good.

For those reasons, i politely ask you to post a "feel-good" news story from Britain today.

You're correct Fins, the majority of Britain isn't living an existence similar to a Mad Max movie, but the
daily news by the mainstream media portray such a country because they believe fear generates ratings.

But I'll keep looking for a feel-good article!

Edith Head Gives Good Wardrobe.
"Feel good story".  Right, let's get to it, chop-chop!

...

As dear Aunt Millie wandered down the streets of her village to purchase some bread at the bakery, a harshly spoken accent halted her in her tracks.

In truth, the man owning the accent was a new arrival from Lithuania, and his spoken English was still far from perfected.

Now, it could be that Aunt Millie's mind was a wee bit clouded due to her advanced age, and, her hearing was probably no longer the best.

Millie, you see, was convinced she had heard German being spoken on the other side of that brick wall!

"Cheeky bugger, he must be a parachutist!" growled Millie as she clearly recalled the dark days of 1940 following Dunkirk.

Like all ladies of a certain age, Millie carried a quite large and severe looking black bag that held all manner of notes, cards, identification, cosmetics, and . . .

ah, yes, there it was . . . the original "Grenade, Hand, Anti-Tank, No. 74" she had been issued by the British Army when she served in the Home Guard.

minusculebiggrin minusculebiggrin minusculebiggrin

The news that evening carried a startling story of a forgotten Second World War munition that had detonated in a small village in central England.  A migrant from Lithuania was injured, and an elderly woman blown over by the blast, which also shattered the windows of a nearby house.  All in all, the unexploded ordnance specialists concluded that the incident could have been much worse.  Aunt Millie was escorted home.  Later that evening, her granddaughter noticed her sitting in the garden with a pitchfork.  When asked why, she would only ask "you don't really think he was the only one, do you?!"

So there's your story, Fin. tinybiggrin

Since the UK has thoughtfully taken care of their gun problem, what Britain needs now, it appears, is some commonsense knife control! You know, something like limiting knife purchases to one per month, only to persons over 21 years old, and with the obligatory background check and of course the proper course of paperwork. Maybe attach a 200 pound sterling "transfer tax" to every knife sale as well...

Asylum-seekers... then why smuggle?!
tinysure

Quote:Channel crossings: Suspected people-smuggling gang arrested in raids

'A suspected people-smuggling gang accused of bringing hundreds of people to the UK in small boats
has been broken up, the Home Office says. A 36-year-old British Syrian man was detained at his flat in
north-west London on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of arrests to 14.

Normal London night-life.

The group is alleged to have helped more than 600 people cross the Channel in May alone.
About 80% of the people they are thought to have smuggled were Syrian.

Home Secretary Priti Patel, who watched the raid being carried out, said she had "repeatedly and
unapologetically" pointed out that smuggling people by illegal means put lives at risk. "We have
seen people die this year in the Channel," she said.

Home Secretary Priti Patel.

"It is absolutely right that we do everything, we use all the tools we have from a law enforcement perspective,
to go after them."
The rest of the group were arrested in raids in London and Sheffield over several months.

Channel crossings by migrants increased sharply from April, with more than 8,200 people making the journey in
small boats so far in 2020, compared to 1,844 last year and 299 in 2018.

Most claim asylum on arrival in the UK, but the overall numbers doing so have fallen in 2020 as the pandemic has
meant other routes - by road and air - have been less accessible. Campaigners say asylum seekers - most of whom
have fled places such as Iran, Iraq and Syria before making the Channel crossing - have no choice but to enter the
UK illegally, as it is not possible to apply for asylum outside the country and there are no safe and legal routes...'

Regardless of the rules saying the first country not at war is where you claim asylum.
This shit costs the UK £28 million. Oddly enough, it was a Syrian man who was doing the smuggling.
We have no idea who's in our country.

Quote:'...The home secretary praised the French authorities for taking stronger action to prevent boats from departing,
saying that on one day when 20 people made it across, more than 200 had been stopped from leaving the beaches
of Normandy.

These interventions have contributed to a 65% fall in the number of crossings on days when the sea is calm, the
Home Office said. The number of crossings peaked at 1,868 for the month of September.

"They have actually been going into the waters to stop boats from listing and sinking to save lives and it's absolutely
the right thing to do," Ms Patel said. "These routes are dangerous. Lives have been put at risk." Both the French and
UK governments were committed to making this route "unviable", she said. "We want to cut this route completely
and we will stop at nothing to try and do that."

She said people should seek asylum in the first safe country they can get to, adding that "European member states
are safe countries". Under a new agreement with France which began at the weekend, the UK is paying £28m
towards doubling the number of police officers on beaches and on surveillance technology such as drones, radar
and cameras.

Ms Patel said when the Brexit transition period ends in January, the UK government will negotiate agreements
with individual EU countries such as France to return people who could have claimed asylum earlier in their
journeys through Europe.

"We will start negotiating bilaterally, country by country, and we are already making that very, very clear to EU member
states. Bilateral relations matter," she said. Existing agreements on returning asylum seekers will expire with the Brexit
transition period and negotiations with the EU have so far failed to produce an agreement...'

Quote:Emily Jones: Bolton child's killer cleared of murder

'A woman who slit a seven-year-old's throat has been cleared of murder after the prosecution offered no
further evidence and withdrew the charge. Eltiona Skana, 30, had admitted the manslaughter of Emily
Jones on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Emily Jones.

Skana, who has paranoid schizophrenia, had been on trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court
after pleading not guilty to murder. Mr Justice Wall will sentence Skana for manslaughter on Tuesday.

The jury had been directed to formally return a not guilty verdict.

After hearing evidence from a consultant forensic psychiatrist treating Skana at high-security Rampton
Hospital, Michael Brady QC, prosecuting, told the court there was no realistic prospect of a conviction
on the murder charge.

Riding scooter
The court heard how Emily was in Queen's Park in Bolton with her father Mark Jones on the afternoon
of Mother's Day on 22 March. She was riding her scooter when she spotted her mother Sarah Barnes,
who was jogging.

The youngster was calling out to her mother as she scooted past a park bench where Skana was sitting,
alone and armed with a craft knife. Skana got up, grabbed Emily and slit her throat before running off.
The defendant, originally from Albania, was later detained under the Mental Health Act.

During the trial, the prosecution alleged that it was for the jury to decide whether this was a case of murder
rather than manslaughter and questioned whether Skana's poor mental health was a "convenient excuse"
for her actions.

The court heard about a conversation between Skana and a nurse while in Rampton, which pointed to the
attack being planned and therefore a calculated killing rather than manslaughter. But the jury was also told
the conversation took place when Skana was not taking her anti-psychotic medication as part of a change
in treatment at the hospital.

Dr Victoria Sullivan, who treated Skana at a medium secure mental health unit in Manchester after her
arrest, said the defendant's sister Klestora told them she had not been taking her anti-psychotic medication
before the attack.

Skana came to the UK in 2014 and had been having injections of anti-psychotic drugs each month since
2017, the court heard. But she also told medics this medication had caused her mental health to deteriorate
and she began taking tablets instead.

When police raided her flat in Bolton, they found a stash of untaken, anti-psychotic drugs, which amounted
to around a month's worth of medication. From mid-December of last year until March 11, the defendant had
no face-to-face contact with her mental health workers, the jury heard.

Earlier, in 2017, Skana had stabbed her own mother and in another incident attacked her sister and had been
admitted to psychiatric hospitals three times. Dr Syed Afghan, her consultant at Rampton, agreed Skana became
psychotically violent when not taking her medication...'

Quote:SPECS OFFENDER Doctor struck off after secretly filming nearly 100 videos of himself having sex
with spy camera hidden in glasses

'A Doctor has been struck off after secretly filming nearly 100 videos of himself having sex with a camera
hidden in his glasses. Dr Jomo Mathurine, 50, recorded unsuspecting women - including his 19 year old
student nurse girlfriend - by installing covert cameras in a number of different devices.

The "highly regarded" gynaecologist was branded a “predator” at a disciplinary tribunal after it was heard
he made 15 images and 96 videos. Mathurine did “significant planning” to set up cameras in his glasses
and hidden in a key fob so he could secretly film the young nurse named as “Mrs A” at her student
accommodation during their two-year sexual relationship.

Dr Mathurine and the possible 'sex-tool' on his head.

Without her knowledge, he recorded 26 “extremely graphic” clips of her genitals and the tribunal heard he
also filmed other women during sex acts. When the student discovered the recordings, he “abused” his
position of power by threatening to “take down” the junior nurse.

Mathurine, who also worked in private medicine, was based at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill and Wexham
Park Hospital in Slough, Berks, but has now been struck off.

'PREDATORY'
At a Medical Practitioners' Tribunal, Tim Grey, on behalf of the General Medical Council, said Mathurine posed
a “danger and risk of repeating his behaviour”. Tribunal chair Simon Bond said: “Mr Grey submitted that
Dr Mathurine had engaged in predatory manipulative actions...

“The tribunal was particularly concerned that until such time as the underlying behavioural and psychological issues
highlighted... have been addressed, there would always remain a not insignificant risk of repetition.
"Mr Grey submitted that Dr Mathurine’s behaviour had caused serious harm to Ms A and to her career, the
psychological impact on her was grave, resulting in her return to Northern Ireland to recuperate.”

He added while the student "was not a patient of Dr Mathurine’s, she was vulnerable due to the abuse of Dr Mathurine’s
position of trust; the power imbalance; the age difference of 26 years; and Dr Mathurine’s threats to her career.

He continued: “Mr Grey submitted that although Dr Mathurine had not pursued a relationship with a patient, he had
abused his professional position in pursuit of an improper relationship with Ms A and, although at the outset it was
consensual, power had played a major part in their relationship.”
It was heard Mathurine made 'implausible' suggestions that his motivation was not sexual.

The dad-of-two was previously jailed for 14 months at Reading Crown Court, and placed on the Sexual Offenders’ Register...'

I dunno about his "emplacing" the cameras, which implies to me that he somehow constructed these devices,  but it would seem that it's true that "significant planning" went into his activity. That sort of "spy gear" can be ordered online from China all day long - the glasses, the key fob (look up "808 camera" on Google), even motion/sound activated surveillance cigarette lighters can be ordered from China and sent right to your front door, courtesy UPS and Customs.

One may wonder if focusing his earlier education towards medical care was done to employ such surveillance
and get his rocks off via a type of voyeuristic enjoyment. God knows what devices are still in his office and
