That vid is spot on! Lotta truth pillin movies from the 90s having eerie foreshadowing & parallels to our crazy world today and the social behaviors warping culture of the past few years. Stranger things for sure. Agree with the vid regarding our corrupt Habitus today. We have corporate marketing ARGs of high octane influence being played out in parallel, 24/7 and most people don't even recognize that they are a player in the game. I think eventually, it's all going to collapse.

Truman trivia:
Quote:According to a 2008 New York Times article, psychologists in Britain and the U.S. reported a number of people experiencing "Truman Syndrome" or "the Truman Show delusion," the belief that they are the unwitting star of their own reality TV show. Reportedly, many afflicted specifically mentioned the film in therapy. More recently, on September 16, 2013, the detailed account of one Ohio student who suffered for years from the Truman Show delusion was documented in the New Yorker magazine article "Unreality Star" by Andrew Marantz.

I love Sci-Fi. My new favorite show is Resident Alien. It reminds me of Northern Exposure and Twin Peaks. It is funny, sometimes weird. My favorites are British Murder Mysteries. Ancient Aliens is another favorite because of the archeology. I have most of my favorites on DVD so I can watch anytime I'm in the mood. I enjoy 80s action movies like Lethel Weapon, Die Hard, Star Trek Movies, the old black and white movies of Abbot & Costello, all the old werewolf and vampire movies. There is very little on TV I enjoy anymore. Just bought a reg outdoor antenna to get local channels and a firestick for anything else I can't get on DVD. I'm about to cut Dish out and save some money. Haven't been on here much the last couple of months because the garden was coming in and had to get it canned. My one Asian Pear tree produced 30 quarts of beautiful pears in ginger syrup. Also, most of my family who lives right around me, have had another round of covid. We all good.

That's the most interesting part, the notion -even in this narcissistic environment, that one can be in such a set-up without
knowing it. I've only come across such scenes a couple of times and just as I did, the best thing is to walk away quickly
without speaking to anyone.

Quote:When an American human rights lawyer is assassinated in Belfast, it remains for the man's girlfriend, as well as a tough, no nonsense, police detective to find the truth... which they soon discover to be contained in an audio tape which the man had with him, exposing political manipulations at the highest levels of government. But such underlying agendas require careful considerations to avoid worse things than murder.
IMDB

The conspiracy thriller is actually about the secret dirty war of MI-6, the CIA, and various Tory vampires waged to undermine a labour government and install a hard right wing one in their own country. The film has alot of dialog and may be too boring if you're looking for the Hollywood style action.

Hidden Agenda was praised for its honesty and complexity, as well as its resonance.

Kerrigan: What happened to the film?

Ingrid Jessner: Never got made.

Kerrigan: Too controversial?

Ingrid Jessner: Too honest, I think. It was about how Mr. Kissinger, the CIA and the Pentagon have made Chile safe for democracy.

"Don't worry, it's nothing like Chile here."

The director of the film Ken Loach, paid part of the $150,000 needed for Julian Assange's bail. "I turned down the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) because it's not a club you want to join when you look at the villains who've got it. It's all the things I think are despicable: patronage, deferring to the monarchy and the name of the British Empire, which is a monument of exploitation and conquest."

So I've been binge watching the FX show "The Americans".

It started off pretty good, then got a bit slow, but in the 2nd and 3rd seasons it's pretty good.

Great backdrop for a story, It's about KGB agents during the cold war living in the US as spies. It has it's ups and downs, but when it's hitting it's damn good. It's about 6 seasons long and has aired to completion, so if you do find yourself getting into it. There is no waiting, you can binge it to the end.

I started watching Resident Alien because the lead guy is pretty funny in the other stuff I saw him in. The first season was great, even the intro with the pictures of "do's and don'ts" was amusing.

The show is wavering a bit, but I hope it gets back to what was fun about the first season.

I just downloaded a show I've seen a few times before, but felt like watching again. I'll probably watch it tomorrow after the UFC fights, I don't know why, but it just seems like such a nice bit of drama with just enough fringe elements most of us have been drawn to at one point or another.

I recommend giving that a watch, if you haven't seen it.

'Which is'... not was. Some of the villains Loach mentions are still in business and quietly go about their persuasion-tactics
in global politics and power-brokering. We tend to associate the idea of 'The British Empire' with Britain because we have
been indoctrinated to believe one's country somehow holds a special place in one's heart.
Sadly, in the world of governance this isn't true.

Political parties have no affiliation with the countries of their members' birthplace, it's about control... just as -for example,
Vietnam was a concern to the US and France, along with Algiers and Egypt. The East India Company were a major player
in this game and all mentioned held genuine and pragmatic concerns regarding social-control and fiscal affairs.

One may suggest they never really did 'send their best'!

There's that 7 seasons show that I've wanted to watch for a while and now I've started binging it, into season 6 already lol

"Sons of Anarchy". Love it, it's crazy. The number of amazing actors that either do cameos or are long time runners is insane.

Love it!!

This show has it's moments and some slow boil.

Just finishing up season 5 now and going into the last season. Last few episodes have been GREAT. This is really reaching it's stride from a character drama standpoint.

I binged that about a year ago, it really was a great show, loved all the characters, except the lead guy, he was about the worst actor there.

He literally needed walking lessons and those didn't turn out to well.

Beyond the horrible lead, everyone else was great and the writing was superb. I hope Mayans is half as good, I'm going to binge that next.

I'm almost done watching it and I agree with you. The lead is so so. The rest of the entire cast is amazing. For sure, season 6 and 7 don't make much sense as SAMCRO is playing behind everyone's back and they should have been exterminated eons ago, no other gang is stupid enough not to see that. I've only got a few episodes left to watch and that's it. My opinion is that they should have stopped at season 5. The rest seems just like filler to me. As for Mayans, I haven't heard one good comment so not sure if I'll even attempt watching it.

Just finished up The Americans. It was a pretty good show, good setting and characters, but man....the final episode. Talk about closure, this last season was written with the intention of closing this story out. Something not many shows get.

The last episode in particular, really brought it all home to some pretty basic levels. Family and most of all friendship. Set in the 80's during the cold war, with all the crap that happened in this show, in the end, it kind of just boils down to two characters, their friendship and their shared interest in their families.
Severance

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11280740/?r..._sr_srsg_1

About 5(of 9) episodes into the first series.

This is, interesting, it does a fairly good job of building suspense and setting up a lot of questions, so many theories about the actual meaning, I for one think it's of a spiritual nature.

That said, it's amazing, so far, but I fear it's setting up this slow boil and the will fail to deliver and let it simmer to draw it out. At this pace, it's a 2 season, maybe 3 at most. But given the high ratings and "hit" nature, I don't trust them to not try to dilute and draw this out over 5 + seasons.
