Even though the mainstream -or Establishment newspapers rarely report it, their sales have been diminishing
for several years now for various reasons.
Technology made a dent, but in my view, the writing was on the wall for a long time before the internet arrived
on mobile phones. Some... a few who were lucky enough to have access to newspapers and television news
from more than one country, -and had a conscience of decency, realised that apart from the articles that were
read or printed out in parrot-fashion, there was also a form of control.
That control could be sometimes debated. Schedules and advertising revenue is important and a story that
may seem imperative to one person, could be deliberately missed out due to the simple logistics of running
a money-burning, time-sensitive news outlet.
Of course, newspapers can only deliver old news... the bullsh*t perception Hanks and Streep imply in their
movie is far from the mark. I'd be surprised if a Journalist has ever spoken to a Press-hand!
(I suggest this from first-hand knowledge of my own work and my father's)
Even now, the information that is finalised by 10.30.pm -and that's calling it close, is what the reader wakes
up to the next morning. So one can see why this dinosaur is struggling.
But the Establishment television is the real concern when it comes to the idea of control.

But this where the whole problem abides, the established view that only information that mainstream media
provides is the correct one. The idea of freedom is a long debate, but the notion that a pesron -vulnerable or not,
cannot make a free decision on which is false, manipulating news, is contriving in itself!
Yes, there are many alternative news outlets, the same as their millions of opinions around the world.
Why is it the mainstream medium the one that Theresa May is concerned about?
Because of the willingness to report what the Establishment deem appropriate for those they're supposed to
serve. That mild 'thought-control' has worked for many generations.
Funding by the British Government...! If it wasn't for the fact that most -if not all the major newspapers print the
same narrative, I'd say the BBC are going to have brothers and sisters!
'The force for good' comment is a little worrying too!

Usually, politicians don't give a monkey's-uncle about local papers and tend to draw-in favours from only the top
editorials.
It seems to me that the internet and it's beguiling lures of conjecture and comment-access, is waking up to the
idea that an analysis from someone who's never lifted a shovel in their lives, isn't a good view on current reality.

I tend to steer clear of thee Guardian, unless I need to read a poorly-twisted article that favours upper-middle-class
city dwellers. I don't access the Observer at all.
By the way, changing a broadsheet into a tabloid doesn't work The amount of money acquired from advertising on
a half-page in a broadsheet can always be negotiated and it's still revenue at the end of the day.
Fooling oneself that half a paper saves money and it's a simple case of adding more pages isn't the answer.
A page has two sides and after a month, it becomes deemed an extra cost.
