I personally believe Muhammad found God in that cave of his. There was nothing really wrong with him documenting (proselytizing) that which he experienced. I'd bet you a dollar though, that he pulled the governance part of Islam straight from his ass.
No telling why God makes Himself known to any of us. He's got His reasons.
