  And then....
Posted by: PLOTUS - 08-29-2020, 10:42 PM - Forum: Political News and more - Replies (9)

And after the elections are over, what then. Complete anarchy or will we see some return to civility ? No matter who wins, there will be trouble, you can count on it. At what point should the trouble/rebellion be shut down, even by lethal means ?  Can we allow a continued burning and looting of America ? NO. is the answer. This Black verses White has got to subside and end. Call it what you will, take off the shades and see with your own eyes what it is. No candy coating, no mouthboogie, no false hyperbole, just the facts.

What do you think will happen after November third ? And how long do you think it will last. Is a civil war in our future ? Red against Blue ? Blue against Red ? Or will life just go on as usual with people shopping, kids in school, wearing masks everywhere, the usual nothing biching about non-events ? Shopping at Walmart ?

2020 will go down as a year of death and destruction, mostly perpetrated by a single race bent on revolt, not withstanding the life lived before 2020 where dignity and courtesy had been offered. What do you think will come around ? We have lost most of our statues and identy trying to placate the African American race. What will be the outcome ? Will this continue untill marshal law is instituted ?  Will it be needed and will you be for it ? What will African Americans finally be satisfied with ?

These are dangerous times we live in, but for who exactly ? America is an armed camp like never before, will it come down to defending life and liberty at the end of a barrel ?

Wink CNN guest calls COVID-19 risks at White House concerning but not at D.C. March
Posted by: xuenchen - 08-29-2020, 09:14 PM - Forum: Political News and more - Replies (1)

A guest doctor on CNN has made an amazing discovery that will affect billions of people for generations to come !!

He somehow has deduced that people not wearing masks and not social distancing at Trump's RNC Whitehouse speech are a risk because of the COVID19 scare !!

Now wait... he then proclaims that people not wearing masks and not social distancing at the March on Washington DC gathering are not as affected because people there are raising awareness for the “public health crisis” of “systemic racism.” !!

Well now it's settled finally !!

Dr. Rob Davidson is a known Democrat and has actually run for office too.

Quote:A CNN medical expert expressed concern about the potential spread of the coronavirus at the White House during the Republican National Convention Thursday but praised the tens of thousands who showed up at the March on Washington the next day.

Many journalists questioned President Trump's choice to give his renomination acceptance speech on the South Lawn before an outdoor audience of roughly 1,500 people where there was very little mask-wearing and no social distancing.

CNN guest Dr. Rob Davidson joined the chorus of critics.

"I was very concerned about the White House event last night, 1,500 people packed shoulder-to-shoulder, the head of the coronavirus task force [Vice President Mike Pence] in attendance without a mask with his family, his elderly mother without a mask. And it's concerning," Davidson told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper. "We know that people weren't tested, only people in direct contact with President Trump had testing done. So I think we're going to see cases out of that and it's modeling bad behavior."

Quote:Appearing Friday on CNN, Dr. Rob Davidson said that unlike President Donald Trump’s Republican National Convention speech on the White House lawn, the lack of social distancing during the March on Washington is not a major concern because participants are raising awareness for the “public health crisis” of “systemic racism.”

Leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood Arrested
Posted by: Mystic Wanderer - 08-29-2020, 07:14 PM - Forum: Social Unrest and Justice - Replies (1)

Looks like this could be an important development.

Egyptian authorities said on Friday they had arrested the acting leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mahmoud Ezzat, during a raid on an apartment in Cairo.
The arrest is the latest blow to Egypt‘s oldest and most organized Islamist movement, which has been crushed in a sweeping crackdown since it was forced from power seven years ago.

Ezzat was an influential former deputy to Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie, and was seen as a hardliner within the group. He became acting leader after Badie’s arrest in August 2013.

An interior ministry statement said Ezzat had been arrested from an apartment used as a hide-out in Cairo’s Fifth Settlement district, and was accused of joining and leading a terrorist group and receiving illicit funds.

Egyptian authorities accuse the Brotherhood of promoting militancy and subversion, accusations it strongly denies.
The interior ministry said encrypted communications equipment had been seized during the arrest, and said Ezzat was suspected of overseeing several assassinations or attempted assassinations as well as a bombing since 2013.

A Brotherhood statement denounced the arrest, saying Ezzat had been pursued on “false political charges” and that the group would “overcome such strikes and challenges.”

Ezzat had previously been sentenced to death and to life in prison in absentia. According to Egyptian law, he will face retrials in the cases following his arrest.

A picture distributed by the interior ministry and published by Egyptian newspaper Al-Youm al-Sabaa showed a gaunt and frail looking Ezzat wearing a striped T-shirt.

After then-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi led the 2013 overthrow of former President Mohamed Mursi, a Brotherhood figure who was Egypt‘s first democratically elected leader, the group has been outlawed and much of its leadership jailed.

Other senior members of the group have left the country, with many now living in Turkey, and media reports had previously placed Ezzat abroad.

Badie remains in prison in Cairo, where he has received several life sentences. Mursi died after collapsing in a prison courtroom in June 2019.

Sad WARNING Doctors find possible case of Covid-19 reinfection in US
Posted by: xuenchen - 08-29-2020, 06:39 PM - Forum: Political News and more - Replies (14)

OhOh now they're telling us that the COVID19 virus may be "re-infecting" people !!

A case in Nevada is the set up !!

If this is truly being "used" by Democrats to red herring the election, they would need to "extend" the whole thing right?

Look out for disinfo, misinfo, and total BS flying everywhere !!

Cancel the voting !!
Cancel the debates !!
Cancel the whole stink'n mess !!

Quote:A 25-year-old Nevada man appears to be the first documented case of Covid-19 reinfection in the United States.

Genetic tests indicate the patient was infected with two different varieties of the virus, a team at the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine and the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory reported.

The patient was first diagnosed with coronavirus in April after he had a sore throat, cough, headache, nausea and diarrhea, the researchers wrote in a pre-print study posted Thursday. He got better around April 27, and he tested negative for the virus twice afterwards.

He continued to feel well for about a month. Then on May 31 he sought care for fever, headache, dizziness, cough, nausea and diarrhea. Five days later, he was hospitalized and required ongoing oxygen support. He was tested again for Covid-19 and the results were positive.

Why I Don't Trust The Media
Posted by: NightskyeB4Dawn - 08-29-2020, 02:15 PM - Forum: Daily Chit Chat - Replies (12)

I have decide to lay low for a while.  I never should have broken my general rule of, no discussions of religion or politics with friends, family, or in polite company.

Online was a place I thought it might be safe to share some like and opposing views, but the internet has gone from being a battle ground to a staging theater.

Those that are actors, or play one on the internet, are not on the internet for civil conversation, camaraderie, or to learn.  The internet has become weaponized and it is hard to walk among the land mines without stepping on one.

I used to tell myself the internet was a productive way to spend my time waiting to be called. That may still be true, when I am catching up on my extended learning. There has been a sudden boom of free webinar classes and free access to a large number of online learning materials, since the shutdown, but I even have to take a break from formal learning on occasion. So a visit to the forums were a way to break the monotony, learn, and find a little pleasure from conversation with others.

I was wrong when I thought the environment had changed because of politics. Politics have always been a raw spot for some. Even as a child I would hear the elders rebuking each other about politics. What is going on today runs so much deeper than politics and it is hard to watch, so I have decided not to.

It is like watching a speeding train barreling down on a deaf child stuck on the tracks, that you can't reach. You can scream, you can yell, you can jump up and down, but you know they can't hear you, and they will not understand your gestures, but you keep doing it, hoping you will get through.

The media and the internet are amazingly efficient. So efficient, that the average person adamantly and vehemently believes they think independently and completely for themselves. They believe they know the truth when they hear it or see it. They believe they are independent thinkers and are discerning. They will not entertain the possibility they may be wrong, because we are a reactionary species, and when we see something, our brain overrides our conscience and we respond autonomously, even in our thinking. It is extremely hard to pull back from the precipice, and when ego gets involved, it is impossible for many.

I have noticed something that even when pointed out to others they can't see or don't want to see. We have been conditioned to believe what we see. We are conditioned to believe the eyes cannot lie. We are conditioned to believe if I see it with my own two eye, it has to be truth, and that is how they trapped us.

I ask you to pay very close attention to what you are shown. There are moments when we question what we see in the moment, because it is so outside of the expected or happened too fast. I encourage you to question everything you are shown, especially as if it comes from the media or the internet. As uncomfortable as it may be, they do control all that we hear and see.

This video may explain it better.

Then watch this and see if you can find Elmo. We can't keep believing that Lucy is going to let Charlie Brown kick that football..

There really is a war on for our minds. Alex Jones, got that right but the part he left out was that this also is a very necessary part, for the plan to be successful. We have to be at war with everything, ourselves, each other, our country, the world.  Divided is their master plan and they are winning.

Please understand that this is not about politics. It is weapon that can be used to manipulate and control all that we see, think, feel or do. Politics are just a microscopic portion of what this is capable of.

ATS One Hundred Words CAMPFIRE TALES contest entry
Posted by: gordi - 08-29-2020, 12:12 PM - Forum: Short Stories - No Replies

The current Short Story Contest on ATS is a word-limited "Campfire Tales" one.

In 100 words or less... tell a short story that contains or relates to the theme "Campfire Tales"

Quite a challenge!

Here is my wee try at it...

There Are No Rules

The wood crackles, with rising hackles... a chill is in the air.
The Witches' cackles, and howling Jackals... contribute to despair.

A tree bough creaks, my knees feel weak... a shiver on my spine.
As circus freaks, and creepy geeks, stalk the neighborhood... just like mine.

A bat in flight, on darkest night, the moon... a merest glow,
Seeks neck to bite, there's no respite, as words (like blood) doth flow.

Hook-Hand, Phantoms, Ghosts and Ghouls... no wonder my face pales.
For it's not random, there are no rules, when it comes to Campfire Tales.

THE END

nuclear-waste fueled diamond batteries could last thousands of years
Posted by: 727Sky - 08-29-2020, 07:51 AM - Forum: Science and Space...the Other Final Frontiers - Replies (8)

https://techxplore.com/news/2020-08-ener...amond.html

A Russian company reported basically the same thing a couple of weeks ago.

Quote:Energy firm says its nuclear-waste fueled diamond batteries could last thousands of years
by Peter Grad , Tech Xplore

A cellphone power source that lasts nine years. An auto-battery pack that lasts nearly a century. A pacemaker that is powered to last 28,000 years.

These surreal claims are being made by a California-based battery company that says successful early test results recently competed on a nano-diamond battery brings them closer to realizing such claims.
The key to their revolutionary batteries is radioactive nuclear waste. There are massive quantities of leftover nuclear waste from nuclear plant facilities. Such waste is extremely toxic, lasts thousands of years and poses a challenge when it comes to disposing of it (burying and encasing it) safely.
The company, NDB, says it can safely utilize this waste to generate power in its nano diamond batteries. It can achieve this by processing graphite nuclear waste into a pure form and then converting it into diamonds. As the waste product enveloped by the diamond decays, it interacts with the carbon to generate a small electric current.
Depending on the power drain, the battery, which never needs recharging, would last for a user's lifetime, and beyond.
It could be used for common mobile devices, medical products, satellites and could provide energy in hard-to-reach locations or remote areas where routine maintenance would be difficult.
The company has not yet produced a prototype, but says it has proof of concept. The company sees virtually unlimited applications of NDBs.

"Think of it in an iPhone," NDB's chief strategy officer Neel Naicker says. "With the same size battery, it would charge your battery from zero to full, five times an hour. Imagine that. Imagine a world where you wouldn't have to charge your battery at all for the day. Now imagine for the week, for the month… How about for decades? That's what we're able to do with this technology."
The basic principle behind the concept is not actually new. As NDB's chief operating officer Mohammed Irfan explained: "Using radioisotopes as a source for energy is not new. We have nuclear medicine, where patients are treated with controlled equipment, which has always given effective results. Similarly, we have had nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers. Of course, that's a completely different process, but it's been able to successfully and safely deliver power and energy without safety issues."

Some NDB claims have ben greeted with cautious skepticism in tech circles.
"NDB speaks of low- and high-power versions of the cell in development, but until we see some output figures the claims are still hazy, and until we see some proof, they're just claims," said Loz Blain, a tech writer at New Atlas.
Steven Novella of the publication NEUROLOGICA blog questions how the batteries will reach sufficient output to be as effective as NDB's developers claim. "This all sounds great," Novella says, "but there is a critical factor left out… What is the power density of these devices?" Specs from similar projects utilizing radioactive fuel, Novella suggests, show "the power density is extremely low, much lower than chemical batteries like lithium-ion. The engineers from NDB admit their power density is about the same as other nuclear diamond technology."
NDB says it will begin work on a prototype as soon as virus-related quarantines ease, and they hope to produce a working prototype in less than two years.
In the meantime, they believe they have found the ultimate solution to a longtime problem.
"We've taken something that's really harmful to the environment, a problem, " NDB's Naicker says, "and created energy."

The Mystery of the Longyou Caves
Posted by: kdog - 08-29-2020, 07:26 AM - Forum: Lost and Ancient - Replies (2)

Pretty cool place ! Wish I could visit .

Longyou Caves is a complex of 24 artificial caves, constructed into the sandstone geology of Fenghuang Hill in the Zhejiang province of China.
The caves were discovered by accident in 1992, when local farmers drained several ponds revealing five large manmade caverns and 19 smaller caves.
The five caverns, independent from each other measure between 18-34 metres, reaching heights of up to 20 metres with supporting pillars and distinctive shapes remarkably curved with shaking imprints across the cavern walls and ceilings.
After news of the discovery spread across China, it was first proposed that the caves were an obscure natural wonder, as the design and formation was completely distinct from other ancient caves, quarries, mines, or ceremonial caverns constructed in china throughout antiquity to draw a comparison.
