Very cool, I wish I could build my own gear. I guess some tubes might be a bit harder to get now? A few of my guitar gearhead buds are concerned.

Yeah, some are going away, but they are being replaced by others.  Technology now is such that there are tubes now with the same pin outs and voltages which will accomplish the same thing, just a different manufacturer.  I'd be really surprised if tubes for Marshall will ever be unavailable, there's way too much demand.  Now, some other obscure off-brand stuff from long ago might not be able to get tubes, but again, it's a demand issue.

I don't really do more than dabble in guitar, I haven't played or felt like it in almost a year, but it is amazing how much better tube amps sound than solid state or digital ones.
My friend just got a tube powered pre amp for mixing. I am sure that sounds really good too.

plus, as an old Draftsman myself, I just love writing instruments anyway, but there are actually quite a few folks who get into it.  They have expos and shows, and it's not uncommon to see 5k to 10k people show up for one of these events.

It's less about saving money than knowing where the cloth comes from, how it was treated (no poisons) and that no children had to work for it. But I don't judge others about it, not everyone has the time for it and good cloth is almost as expensive as the finished product in store.

There's a lot of love going into it though, and just like with cooking, it can be felt, IMHO.

Very, Very Nice.

Well, just for writing experience (not too collectable really) check out some of the Japanese Pilots.  People know Pilot in the US, but in Japan they have WAY more models.  They've got a "Juice" model which goes down to about 0.3mm.  Another Pilot model is the G-TEC-Cx line.  I've got some of those Japanese gels, even ones down to 0.1mm, if you can believe that!!  And they write SMMOOOOOOOoooooooth!! too!  People think of gel pens like the ones they get at the grocery store, and if they ever tried some of these gel pens out of Japan they'd never use another pen.

Check out Jetpens.com.  They're a Japanese importer out of CA.  They've got an incredible selection.  I order way too much stuff from them (....every month!!!)   Amazon (JP) also has a lot of variety too, but it's just like dealing with regular Amazon where you really have to check prices.  They do honor your Prime though, at least last time I checked.  Sometimes you have to have a minimum order though to get the free shipping.  I never seem to have the problem of being below the minimum order...just ask my wife!  LOL!  She doesn't even bother asking what's in the packages anymore, just hollers out "Some more pencils showed up for you!"

And then there's the wooden pencil thing.  I've actually collected wood pencils for many many years though.  Back about 4 years ago I stopped, but now I've resumed again with a focus on Europe, India and Asia.  Otherwise, I have about every pencil made in North America back to about the 50's and the same for Japan.

This makes four of us now!  Cool!

Awesome!
I just looked up Jetpens.com, very cool selection. Thanks! I don't think I've ever used an 0.1mm before, that is outtasight!! I have a Pentel EnerGel which writes pretty good.

Here is a shot of my collection. The red box pencils go back to about 1953-1956. Census pencils. Note the 2 2/4!!! The Associated Commercial Pencils work well, I have a few boxes of them, they date around the 80s or early 90s. I use a 1980s Boston sharpener for my pencils. The almond colored one with the wood veneer trim.

From top to bottom: Parker Flighter CT ('70s), two Zebra F-701s, Cross "Century" mech pencil, the famous McDonnell Douglas Truck Services mech pencil, another similar model, and my trusty Kerry. I have about 150 pens/mechanical pencils in total but these are some of my favorites.

I have a ship ton of flashlights around here. I keep having to go back to the regular battery powered ones, because the ones that you plug up, give amazing light, but they die quickly. They go from losing their charge rapidly to not receiving a charge at all.

I am sort of done with them, and they are useless during a hurricane.

Fun thread!

Im retired, but am now a fine arts major back at college.  I took a ceramics class and loved it but was terrible on the wheel.   The day I bought my own pottery wheel was the first day of the lockdown for the plandemic.  No brag, but Im proud to say I now sell my work as a studio potter in a busy gallery.  I hope to get back to school next fall.   Here is a little chocolate, blueberry creme teapot, for a sample.

Yep. Tube production has been and will continue to be a problem. More so now due to Russia's response to the sanctions.

Rhett Schull posted a vid about tube production recently. Guitars, and music in general, is a hobby of mine too. I went nuts last year and picked up an AxeFX III and I really don't think about amps any more. The AFX overkill for me, but I hope to put it to good use very soon. I'm trying find (and balance) time to work on two new musical projects.

Very nice!  I'll post up some pics of some of my pencils a bit later when I get to my other computer.  I used to have one of the Kerry's, but I haven't seen it in a while.  Lately I've been picking up some of the Koh-I-noor's (Super Pro Mecha) which was just discontinued, so I got in before the prices shot up to $110 bucks, and some of the new Zebras (the 'Tect 2way and the DelGuard).  The 'Tect 2way' is a hell of a pencil!  I used to have some of the F series Zebras but they weren't my favorite (too short).

I don't see one of the ubiquitous Pentel 20x series pencil anywhere in there! <GASP!!>  Everyone's GOTTA' have one of those!  Better get one quick though, because the legend has been discontinued in Japan, and the only ones left in North America are the Special Edition colors.  The prices are still inexpensive, but the Pentel P-205 certainly, and the P-207 are gotta' have's.  The P-203 is cool, but it's a recent edition to the 20x line.  The P-200 Series has now been replaced with the GraphGear 500 Series, which is a great pencil in its own right, but it's not the "Original" mechanical pencil we all know and love, the legend...the P-205!!   Start looking for one tomorrow...wherever you shop!  Seriously!  You will be absolutely kicking yourself when that $6 dollar pencil is selling for $250 bucks!!

You can thank me later!

Holy Cow!!  We've got some talented people here for sure!!  That's beautiful!  Mom used to do pottery, and she got pretty good at it, but never had her own pottery wheel.  She mainly took classes at the Community College and made friends from there.

Do you have your own kiln too??

Love to see the pic.  I've sen some CNC's in action, and I'm around 3-D modeling every day for design, but have no idea how to take the 3-D model design product and turn it into something automation can make!  Our designs get used in aviation, so everything is pretty much hand built.

That CNC stuff is some big dollar gear right there!!

Or at least writing utensil collectors. A broader category I guess.

I have a drawer in one of my tool boxes I toss old ...ahem... classic pencils when they get too well used. The patina on them is amazing. They all have provenance and documentation.

With the down turn in the economy, I imagine investing in these amazing bits of history is a wise move. No cost is too great to the savvy investor.

I take cashiers checks and Bitcoin. Maybe ammo, depending on the caliber.

You know...there is actually a niche segment of pencil collecting with collectors who collect all manner of used up pencils!!

I am dead serious too!!

And you'll get a kick out of this...there's even another collector segment who not only connect used up pencils, but they also "splice" them together into one pencil.  If you think that sounds crazy, you should see what they look like and the tools they use to do it...they're even crazier!!

Everyone has "adult" hobbies.  I do as well, as far as gardening, crochet, canning, learning how to do new things, like make soap, sew and stuff, but I get bored once I've learned and go back to one thing.

I Love Lego's.
LOL
Yep, I'm and old lady, with her own lego room.  I'm not anywhere near as good as the people on Lego Masters, but I like to build the big sets, geared more towards adults.  And I like to free build too, like campgrounds full of campers, although one fellow did get attacked by a bear.  (Also love horror movies, so sometimes that comes out!)

Here's a couple sets I had out the other day to move some around and add some newcomers.

I've got an Engineer buddy at work who is ALL into Legos!!  I think this guys sleeps with his Legos he likes 'em so much (No, not THAT way!!!  Sheesh!).  He's got some pretty cool ones.  His most recent one is the Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket.  Holy crap!  That thing is like 6 feet tall and takes up an entire table to lay it down on display!!

He's also got one of the Space Shuttle too.  I really dig that one because I worked with NASA in the Shuttle program back in the 80's.  Bittersweet story too...I worked on the Mission "51-Lima" program...Challenger.  :-(
