Pixie Investigation With Mr. Erwin Saunders.
(05-21-2021, 11:41 AM)gordi Wrote: I popped in to let @BIAD know that Erwin was back with a new video, but I see that he has that covered already.

So, while I'm here... There is a nice stone labyrinth of this design in a dramatic setting beneath an ancient castle in Dunure (Ayrshire). Haven't you got links to that particular area @Ninurta ?
I've taken my boys there a few times in the past, but unfortunately.... the labyrinth is apparently a very recent addition to the site and not an ancient one! Booooo!!!!!
It's still a lovely place to visit.

Yessir, I do. I descend from the McElwaines, the "Lairds of Grimmet", With ties to Grimmet, Attaquin, Maybole, and Thomaston in Ayrshire. The first of that clan to make it all the way out to these hinterlands was a Tunis McElwaine. I've been to his grave, and the headstone spells his surname as "Mucklewane". Some of his kids along another branch, a different one from mine, bastardized the name to "Wayne", and have used that form ever since, claiming kinship with mad Anthony Wayne, which is incorrect as far as I can determine. The timelines are all wrong. Mad Anthony was a "Wayne" and a general long before that McElwaine line started using that name.

I don't know how Bruce Wayne factors into it.

The clan had been here for some time, coming to the colonies at Lewes, DE in 1714, by way of a 100 year sojourn at the Northern Ireland Plantations, having been transported there for being religiously bothersome. Tunis was an intrepid young lad, and was an "Indian Spy" or scout for the militia at 14 years old. He ran a 60 mile circuit route in Tygart's Valley, in what is now West Virginia, examining trails for Indian sign to give alarm to 3 settlements/forts along his route should there be any incursions. His dad had been an Indian trader in the Pennsylvania Colony, which I reckon is where he learned his trade. After the Revolution, he married a German girl named Propst and they moved farther west, into the wilderness for which he was better suited.

There is a town in Virginia, Tunis, named for him. It's right near to Propstburg.

That sort of labyrinth has been found carved into ancient megalithic tombs as a symbol, and most of the actual on the ground ones left today are, like the one you point out, more modern additions. The rounds are walked as a sort of meditation, and are said to calm the mind and allow for deeper thought and some degree of relaxation.

The Paul Smith of Bustykelp fame actually still has a VERY OLD youtube channel which is still active.

Guess what the main video subject matter is...?
Yup, CGI Pixies!

(Look at the background locations used in the videos too - especially the first one.)

Good catch, Gordi!

Compare this Bustykelp video:

With this Erwin Saunders video:

I draw particular attention to the following frames:

Bustykelp "Pixie" frame:

Erwin Saunders "Wilton Pixies" frame (at around 2:57 of the video):

It looks like the exact same location to me, at different times of the year, and probably different years, right down to nearly the same camera angle.

The resolutions are different - the Bustykelp video is 360 as opposed to the doubling 720 (really quadrupling - double height times double width) of Erwin's video - but the rocks and trees match up pretty good in my estimation.

Quote:My current thinking is that either:
Erwin IS Paul Smith of Busty Kelp,
or that Erwin is actually Paul Smith's dad, and that "film-maker" Tom is probably Paul Smith!

... or it's entirely real.

G

Clearly, Erwin has discovered the location that Bustykelp was filming at, perhaps through torture, and has gone there himself to film actual pixies in the wild!

More comparison work on those two video frames.

Since they are at different resolutions, I increased the Bustykelp frame, and reduced the Erwin frame, and them registered them together as closely as I could, and laid them out side by side:

To make comparison of the two easier, I then made a GIF flashing between the two:

I am convinced they are at the same precise site, in different years. The 3 rocks are the same, the 3 trees behind the right hand tall rock are the same (right down to tne same knotholes), there are even 3 bare branches hanging into the top of both frames that are the same. The configuration of the vegetation is different, as would be expected at different times, and at least one of the trees that was there in the earlier Bustykelp video is either gone by the tie Erwin's video was shot, or else it's position is changed by the slightly different camera angle, but there is no doubt that the location site is the exact same one.

I've GOT IT!
Paul Smith, wishing to carve himself out a career in CGI animation but having little talent for such, accidentally discovers the whereabouts of some REAL Pixies and decides to film them and pass them off as his own CGI Animation work!

Erwin becomes suspicious about the "animated" pixies and beats the truth out of Smith with a twig and 2 sprigs of Elderberries.

Smith, for all intents and purposes goes into "hiding" and disappears from public view, only popping up now and again as a voice-over guy on some random CGI tutorial videos, desperately trying to cling on to his previous reputation as a go-to CGI artiste.

Erwin explores Smith's pixie locations, uncovers the truth about the real pixies, and ruthlessly exploits them for Fame & Fortune through his YouTubby channel, Pixie-Porn Patreon and OnlyFans pages! Shamelessly dragging his Filipino slave-boy "Tom" around the woods with him to film his.... "endeavors".

It's SHOCKING and the world needs to know!

Oh my... the magic is certainly draining fast from the world of Erwin Saunders!

Yes, I agree with Ninurta that the two separate images are of the same specific spot in an unnamed woodland
and have the advantage of foliage-growth to indicate the length of time between 'Smith's' video and Erwin's.

The debate on who is the real Erwin Saunders is narrowing, but seeing the quality on BustyKelp's  'Directing Work'
web-page, doesn't offer much hope that the creatures in Erwin's footage are from this company.

Some of BustyKelp's work.

However, there is a guy called 'Paul Smith' of CGI Ltd, a company I mentioned before.

One of the side-shoots of this business is named RISE AR and offers a video of their work on a project
for Colchester Zoo (UK).

Quote from RISE AR:
"...We use a blend of cgi models and photography to create ultra-realistic views designed
to show how a building will look in the built environment.
Photomontages can be a spectacular addition to your sales effort or planning application."

More information to use in the evaluation of this potential connection: at 0:10 in Erwin's "Wilton Pixies" video, from which the second frame in the comparison was taken. Erwin states "I'm at this woods, which is a place I probably visited about 10 years ago and saw a little tribe of woodland folk, you could call them pixies..."

Checking the timestamps of the video uploads, Erwin's "Wilton Pixies" video was uploaded to YouTube on 25 March 2019. The Bustykelp "Pixies" video was uploaded to YouTube on... 18 May 2009. About 10 years previous...

The quality of the work in the Colchester Zoo video does not seem to be at the same level as the Pixie videos, to my eye. The pixie animations - if that's what they are - are far smoother, where the mammoths in the Colchester video are more "jerky", for lack of a better word.

At 1:25 in Erwin's "Wilton Pixies" video, he also states "When I was here with Tom last time...", which means, taken with his above statement, and assuming both statements were referring to the same visit, Erwin's association with Tom does go back some length of time, explaining the easy communication between the two.

I wonder if wither of those companies has a "Tom"?

It's a jungle out there, Gordi!

Erwin's drawings (or drawrings) are very good and remind me of some of Brian Froud's artwork, the being's features
a similar.

I'm shocked... shocked, I say! Erwin has taken the jab. Let's hope it didn't effect his magic.

Here's his latest report on those elusive Pixies!

Edith Head Gives Good Wardrobe.
In the busy cyber-world, Erwin is struggling with his fame.
However, the bumbling grateful Pixie researcher has realised his notoriety can help in funding his searches.

Erwin... mind yourself on that busy road!

Edith Head Gives Good Wardrobe.
As the English Summer rains pour a dampener on Erwin's expeditions, Tom steps in to lend his friend
a hand. Today, the blundering brace decide to endure the damp and take a walk into the cave where
we and Erwin first glimpsed the 'Wyrm'.

This episode is not for the squeamish -not because of the bland rapport between the shaggy explorer
and his unsure partner, but because we get to see the real world that Erwin and Tom experience just
beyond the darkness.

Okay, now that was interesting, the pots for helmets was Hilarious but the CGI was pretty good of that creature.

Yeah, the cunning way the 'make-do-helmets' (Trangia stove) were introduced earlier on that had no connection
with the actual subject-matter deserved a small applause!

CGI...? Oh come one, that thing was real!!
(Don't ruin it, Boss!)

Edith Head Gives Good Wardrobe.
I believe the discussion surrounding helmets is merely to cover Tom's reluctance to go into deep, dark caves. Poor.poor Tom! Luckily, Erwin is having none of that, and rides in to the rescue with makeshift helmets, because Erwin is clearly a survivor.

Best dialogue this episode, in my estimation, is:

Erwin: "I was joking about the spiders"

Tom: "Why would you joke about that?!?"

A close second is:

Erwin: "OW!"

Tom: "Mind your head"

Erwin: "Yeah, thanks"

Taking Tom along adds to the videos, as Erwin now has someone for interplay, rather than his standard interplay to himself. Also, as the series progresses, and Erwin's beard gets longer, he looks more and more like this old curmudgeon, hat and all, which I find fascinating:

Note the resemblance to Gandalf, of Lord of the Rings fame.

I have been inspired by Erwin to go pixie hunting locally, hoping against hope that I can encounter a tribe with those fascinating hallucinogenic arrows, but so far, no luck... but there is always tomorrow!

Yes their banter is very 'bumbling-uncle-with-dubious-nephew'-esque! AND the blanched-beard trend that you and
Erwin aspire to didn't go unnoticed too! (A long-lost forest-loving brother, perhaps?)

Pixie-hunting Tip: Don't shoot them.

I cannae shoot 'em. While my eyes and aim are still good enough to hit such small targets, the bullets are big enough that it would obliterate them, thus destroying the evidence that they ever existed a-tall. Not the optimal situation, as I'm sure you'll agree. It would be like shooting a single man with a cannon ball.

However, shooting AT them, just in their general direction but over their heads, for example, might induce them to return fire with some of them there hallucinatin' arrows...

The brotherhood likely stops at the beard. Erwin is far more adventurous than I. I don't go into caves any more, because, cave spiders.

And wyrms. I learned my lesson about them from Erwin's videos. Nasty buggers, and they appear to be ill-tempered to boot!

So, the Pixie Hunter saga continues. Erwin now boasts 23 YouTube videos centered on Pixie Hunting, and if you binge watch them all, in sequence, with no breaks between, there is 3 hours, 3 minutes, and 48 seconds of documentary video evidence for the existence of pixies roaming the British countryside - and that's pretty damned impressive!

Oh anything that has the advantage of being at the height and speed that Tom's Wrym displayed would make me
react not unlike Marion did with Indiana's shoulders when she saw the temple snakes!

In regards of of the locality of Erwin's Pixies, I want to say Wistman's Woods, but I think Puzzlewood could also have
been used in parts.

Well, I'm not big on shooting things inside caves, because it's hard to duck fast enough to dodge riccochets, but in the case of that wyrm, I might have to make an exception. Wyrm steaks for all!

Years and years ago, I did go into a cave with the intent of shooting one of it's denizens, because folks around here scoffed that rats could grow that big. These rats were, I kid you not, between a foot and a half and two feet long, and built nests that were about 5 foot in diameter out of sticks. See? I told you folks didn't believe it! Two of us were just barely adventurous enough for the undertaking - myself, and another stalwart young lad about my age named Donnie Miller, who is sadly now deceased.

Anyhow, as we were in there hunting for the rats, we noticed that we weren't finding any. The nests were still there, but in disrepair, and there were old, rat-gnawed deer bones scattered around the cave floor, but no rats. I had loaded some rifle shells with bird shot to avoid riccocheting slugs just for that occasion - this was years ago, before I learned the fine art of the pistolero. We went deeper and deeper into the cave, still no rats. A few dozen yards into the cave, there was a low passage you had to crawl through which opened into a larger room, sugar-loaf shaped and about 20 feet to the peak of the ceiling. From that, there was a tighter passage off to the side that sloped downward, bottomed out for about two feet, then sloped back upward, both slopes being slick with mud. We got to the bottom of that, and started up the other side when we started seeing cat tracks in the mud, about the size of a regular house cat, and we wondered how in the world a cat had gotten that far into the cave without getting rat-eaten, and we still wondered where the rats were hiding, as we had seen nary a single one.

About half way up the upward slope, in the midst of the cat tracks, we found a HUGE cat track, about 4 or 4 1/2 inches across. It was then that we realized the "cat" tracks were mountain lion kitten tracks... and momma was in there with them! It didn't take us nearly as long to get back out of the cave as it had taken us to get IN to it, I tell ya!

But we knew then where the rats had gone.

Once outside the cave, we rationalized that, being inside a cave, those tracks could have been hundreds of years old, and just been protected from degrading in the elements by virtue of being sheltered in a cave. However, on the way back up the wooded draw from the cave, there were moss covered boulders in the creek bed, and on those boulders, I noticed moss torn off and scratched away in 4 or 4 1/2 inch patches, with 4 claw marks evenly spaced in them where a really big cat had clawed them for purchase going up the draw on nightly forays... and those tracks had to be a good deal more recent than a few hundred years old.

All the way up that draw, until we reached a road, I could feel wildcat kittens climbing my back and jumping off the top of my head. At least it felt like something  was crawling up my spine...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I defer to your wisdom in reference to the filming location. After all, you are the one who found the precise standing stone circle from the Devon video! I'm partial to Puzzlewood, as that is in the Forest of Dean, also the setting of one of my favorite TV shows, "Primeval". Perhaps the pixies are using those bright shiny portals there which have the appearance of glass shards to travel between dimensions... or time itself...

That was quite a story and I -for one, wouldn't have dared to enter the cave in the first place!
...........................

In order to find Erwin's filming location, I thought that any images of Erwin not surrounded by woodland
might help us get us in some sort of vicinity and so I looked at his 'explanation' video, where Erwin's
backdrop was a quaint village duck pond.

Erwin and the pond, notice the wooden seats on the right.

After some time, I found that the pond is in Biddestone far away from where the Yellowmeade Stone circle is located.
So it might be a good idea that  any search start in those surroundings. (Here's a Google map image of the pond)
