China took note of their clashes with the Soviets. IIRC, the outcomes were fairly one-sided and the PLA realized they weren't as hot-sh** as they thought they were. That lesson was reinforced when they clashed with Vietnam in the 1970s.
Hard to tell what happened in the recent clashes with India as both sides have varying accounts.
