It definitely is that! It's better now than it was back then. Lots more houses. Lots of alligators as well. There is a salt water barrier way down the road and the gators seem to think the fresh water side is like their Club Med. There are also some old Civil War graves on the river side of the road before you get to where the ranch house used to stand but you have to already know where they are to find them and are on private property. There is also a house right before the day park on the river side that wasn't there back when this happened, although hurricanes might have taken it out by now. 

Lots of people live way back toward the last stretch of the road, a few small neighborhoods. When the river rises they have to take turns ferrying people in boats to get back and forth to work and school. Have some kin out there. They are "river rats" and proud of it!
