In the case of EU farmers, it could also have something to do with German and French farmers getting generous subsidies while farmers in other EU countries tend to get the shaft.
Meanwhile, the price of food in stores continues to rise while farming land remains idle per "planning" of the Union. The Union has a lot of different chiefs and no one to keep them working in such a way that they are not undermining each other.
Part of it is basic psychology. Rural dwellers have to have a reasonable grasp of reality to survive while some of the policy coming out of Brussels is fantasy rooted in ideology. I don't wonder that the people in the countryside are not impressed by what they believe is unrealistic.
