I have a few musings on the current situation. Keep in mind that I still firmly believe that what goes on in the Ukraine is none of the US's concern. Ukraine is not ours to defend. That would be up to Ukrainians.
First, when did Putin ever get authority to declare parts of OTHER COUNTRIES as "independent states"? I didn't get that memo concerning his authorization to do so, so that bizarre and absurd declaration sort of took me by surprise. How much would it cost us to have him declare the western part of Virginia as an independent state, so that we could get out from under the thumb of Richmond and Washington DC? Asking for a friend.
Second, the very name of Russia originated with the Kievan Rus, Vikings who settled and founded the city of Kiev (I'm spelling it the way God meant for it to be spelled, none of this modern "Kyiv" nonsense) - so how can TV taking heads now nonchalantly rewrite history and claim that "the Ukraine was never a part of Russia"? Do they not know that in order to re-write history, you first have to erase all vestiges of actual historical fact? Otherwise, it only is believable to the gullible and illiterate.
Doesn't the UN have a trademark on the word "peacekeeper™" and "peacekeeping troops™? Will there be lawsuits at The Hague over this misappropriation of a trademarked commodity? Or is it really a "cultural appropriation" that can be dealt with through social shunning and cancel culture?
