Where has the Flu Gone?

Thanks, BIAD, for giving me a helmet in my avatar... much more comfortable than a mask.

You're welcome!

I think you're right about the alienation being a contributor to keeping the normal seasonal flu situation in
countries to a mere storyline that didn't warrant reporting. And besides, the word 'flu' doesn't have the same
scary connotations as a virus' name that sounds like a nerve-agent!

I think it's a sad time when first-world countries have to be told to wash their hands as part of a remedy, wasn't
that a standard thing at one time? Although, I don't recall it being advice to combat flu in the past and of course,
one would just 'isolate' when feeling ill anyway.

But today, we now have a highly-transmissible virus that doesn't have symptoms if you're already immune or take
an injection that doesn't stop that transmission... there's a joke in there somewhere.
It's almost like a horse with a horn on its head being called a unicorn -except there's no such thing as a horned-horse
called a unicorn. (Unless you create one!)

Using words and a type of infectious disease, the systems we've slowly been acclimatised to have been -are still follow,
are screwing us with our pants on. Narratives evolve quicker than a Influenza infection and the fever of these poorly
-constructed chunks of fear-porn travel faster than anything China could have created.

I still titter when I see Governments advising isolating oneself for ten days, advice based on a working-week, not on the
internal duration of this particular flu! (It used to be fourteen days, but they dumped the idea because it meant absence
from worshipping on a Sunday and could effect weekend Journalism! Like we're suppose to believe that you can only
catch Covid on a Monday?)

If you look at the planning that went into the publicity of this situation, I believe the international fear that it created can
be seen to originate when other headline-grabbing events waned.
(Just my opinion)
