Just adding that my Dear Old Dad used to claim that holding your breath would also close your pores. I've seen him, with my own two eyes, hold the stinger of a wasp up to his thumb with no sting forthcoming, although the wasp was pretty upset. Dear Old Dad was very highly allergic to wasp stings. He claimed that it was because he held his breath, and closed his pores thereby, that the wasp could not sting him. Also adding that Dear Old Dad used to test me a lot, so he might have been lying, and that may have been just a test to see if I bought it...
