So - the sparrow meets up with a force field that, to put it simply, was installed to keep sparrows from entering the cave under most circumstances.
Is it really time-travel?
Is that really a ghost?
Or is it all the same, in those few instances when the door opens?
When the door opens, the spiderwebs are no longer 'where' they used to be.
The ghost sparrow cannot be found in its usual position.
In fact, however, nothing seems too terribly out of the ordinary...yet, it is the mystical world/cave that held the sparrow's fascination days on end.
May even have inspired countless campfire stories for the young sparrows.
You may be right. Time-travel may be as simple as an open door or busted window that lets us into a room/space that is normally off-limits (to us). And if we happen to find a way in - we can be pretty certain that the guardian of said room/space will take a broom to shew us away...so as to keep that space 'in order'.
