Russia’s Ex-Foreign Minister on His ‘Totalitarian’ Country
The old cold war never really ended, because the people who has KGB background got power in Russia, and they never wanted new Russia or ending the cold war , Putin and hes cronies allmost all are ex KGB ....for the the ideal order is with cold war ...
Quote:“This is not about Putin himself,” Kozryev corrects me. “It’s not one figure because the personality can be changed. The problem is the character of the regime and that character must be changed.”
I found this part of the article interesting:
Quote:“I think what prompted Putin and his inner circle,” Kozyrev tells me, “is that they see this is really a crucial moment, a tipping point for Europe and the world. Despite certain deviations in, say, Hungary and Turkey, there has been a general movement toward more democracy and openness. This terrifies Putin.”
It would be nice to live in one of those places he mentions that are moving towards more democracy and openness, but here I am in the USA, which is running as hard as it can in the opposite direction currently.
I do agree with him that there was a window right after the Soviet Empire collapsed where we could have made a difference in Russia, and found ourselves on friendly footing with them now, but that window slammed shut. I disagree with him that Bush and Cheney were the men to get the job done. If they had been, they would have. They were not - they were just more Neocon lackeys of the MIC with a vested interest in keeping war going on so their buddies would roll in money and give them suitable kickbacks. So instead of investing in Russian freedom and openness, they decided to make war on Iraq. Likewise, Warren Christopher was just a bureaucratic paper-pushing idiot.
I don't think Putin is doing this out of any perception that America is getting freer, more democratic, or more open. I think he is doing it at this time because he perceives America to be weak, and moving into the direction of being a rival totalitarian state. If he didn't do it now, he might have to deal with a strong American leader and a stronger American military after the next election cycle, and a strengthening rival totalitarian state in the American Federal Empire, and that would make his goal even tougher to attain.
In other words, he panicked and pulled the trigger because he thought the iron was hot right now, and might cool back down before he could strike.
Panic in never a good basis for decision making, and it's showing.

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.
Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’
