Definitely intel ops going on in S America (among many other things).  Strange how remote that place seems even though it is connected by a land bridge to the USA.

We're there, Nazis were and may still be there, Soviet and Maoist movements, a lot going on.  I'd wager most Americans don't know how long we've been waging unconventional warfare there with some very unpleasant folks.  I became aware of that in the 1980s.

Some of what is reported is likely genuine phenomena, some of it not.

Lot of interesting stories come from that continent.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. I heard some things when I was active duty Navy about some things people were doing down there, also in Panama, even though that’s not South America, but still.
