Following Guohua's passing, many questions need answers, the main one being "Is Rogue Nation continuing?".

Yes. Rogue Nation was, is and will remain Guohua's baby and it will always be. So, YES, Rogue Nation continues.

Now, with Guohua missing, there has to be a few changes put in place. The first one is a restructuring of the Admins and their roles.

Guohua remains the Website Owner but I've accepted the role of Rogue Prez, - or I was thrown under the bus, not sure here. In any case, this means that I will be the one taking final decisions in the Admins area.

The restructuring also changes the roles of the Admins to a certain degree. Each will have their zones of interests to follow, as it's always been done but with fancy titles to make them easily identifiable to you. V-Ps. V-P Design, V-P Admin, V-P Development and so on. So the new structure will consist of Moderators, Super Moderators, V-Ps and the Prez.

Here are some of the changes that we are working on at this moment:

- We are creating - to be honest here, BIAD is creating - "In Memoriam" logos that will be attached to the avatars of those that have come and gone. If you know of a Rogue Member that has passed away since this site has existed, please reach out and tell us. This prevents newbies or someone unaware that a member has passed from replying to some of their threads in hopes of getting a reply.

- We will be creating a tribute thread for Guohua titled "The Book of Guohua", as suggested by MisterSpock. A reminder to everyone of who she was, what she liked, what made her tick. A collage of her posts, so to speak.

- We are also looking into updating the platform as that hasn't been done in a long time. An update always being a double edged sword, with pros and cons, some of us are looking into websites like ours that have been updated to make a proper decision. We will make a special announcement if we decide to go ahead with it.

That's pretty much it for now. Rogue Nation continues.

If you have suggestions, ideas or anything else on your mind that you'd like to share, good or bad, please don't hesitate and reply to this announcement or in private, whichever you prefer.

Thank you.

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

only one request, don't fuck it up when you update like tos did. every time over the years when they updated, it would be all fucked up and not work right for months then when they did try to fix it it would fuck it up even more, or never get fix all all.

and please please don't change the emoji's to ones like theirs, piss ass poor excuse for emoji's i've ever seen. i like the ones here better than any other sites i've been on. tinybiggrin

one of the newest problems on tos, is no uploading of images, it's because of a security certificate problem on https so they say but it's been almost a month, month and a half and still doesn't work right.

I'm actually the one looking into it and I hear you. Been there, done that. And I'm of the kind that thinks that if it ain't broken, why fix it? But it depends if the pros outweigh the cons. In any case, it's not for tomorrow morning lol and we'll keep everyone in the know if we decide to go ahead with this.

And no worries about the emojis. They were Guohua's picks - for most. So they're now considered untouchables. I remember at the time that we had asked everyone to chip in the emojis they'd like the site to have. It had taken days to set all of those up. That's the main reason we have this variety. We might add to it in the future but we won't take any of them out.

Hope this answers your concerns..

There is usually a "shakedown" period after any major update where the bugs are worked out, but we strive to minimize such periods and we had traditionally looked around at other sites with the same underlying software that have updated in order to get an idea of what those bugs might be so that we have a head start on fixing them, also to minimize member frustrations with the update. TOS runs on custom software coded by Skeptic Overlord for the most part, so they don't have that advantage of seeing what the updates did to someone else first.

Most of the emojis here were Guohua's choice, so I don't see them changing much at all. The woman loved her emojis, probably because they had a way of getting her point across quickly, without having to translate from Mandarin to English. I don't even recognize TOS emojis AS emojis.

I tried to implement https:// here, but failed. I plead technical ineptitude in the matter. I tried for about a month before I finally threw in the towel and admitted defeat, admitted that a machine finally kicked my ass. It's something I'd like to implement if I could find someone to do it, as the lack of a "connection secure" icon in the address bar is offputting to some folks who would otherwise be members I think. It was suggested to me by one of the honchos at a social media site  who visited, and that was when I started trying but ultimately failing to implement it. The documentation for MyBB utterly lost me when I was having at it, otherwise it might have gotten done.

I don't think it actually matters all that much, as https:// was designed to implement e-commerce and keep it secure, and e-commerce isn't done here. About all it really would protect here would be login information from a "man in the middle" attack, but still folks get used to it and expect it, even if it only gives them a sense of security that isn't really necessary.

That emoji ought to be my avatar, but it just doesn't have enough Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers hair on it!

@Ninurta the only benefit to https on my end is if I'm on my work's WiFi I can't access the site. Admin blocks me. I need wifi in my shop because of poor cell coverage.

But I would never TRY this, I work 150% of the time I'm at work and have no good reason to every verify if that's true...

G'day @"Snarl" .

I've seen the issues with the site so I just check in each day to see if I'm connected.

Kind regards,

Is your shop running a network extender to provide better cell coverage via the internet? That's what I have to do here, because I'm so fr back in the sticks that we have to have sunshine piped in, and so, no cell coverage here. On the plus side, I can just unplug the extender if I don't want to be called or tracked...
