I know many people have Ring cameras or some ever version of the same. I don't really see the need for one.

After tripping up on this site, I am starting to have second thoughts about it.

I have several family members that depend on theirs.

I have had several times that my dogs alerted me to activity outside at night. Only once was I suspicious, because I thought I heard some movement in the woods, when I activated the familiar sound of a shotgun being engaged.

Ever other time it has been a four legged critter. It may have been a four legged critter every time.

I have a Ring doorbell camera, and it has been very helpful for me. I can see what some sketchy neighbors in the adjacent building are doing. I live in a condominium complex, and the neighbors I’m referring to are renters. Nothing wrong with that, but they have had the police over there many times. Since I’m the secretary for my condo board association, I hear of many of the complaints on them. Fortunately they are moving, but to another unit within the condo complex. But my Ring has captured plenty of drama from them. I’ll do whatever I have to do in order to maintain order in my neighborhood.

If I lived in town, I might think about it, but I live out in the country.
To get to my front door, you have to walk by our picture window, which means walking by where the dogs sleep.  They don't bark for creatures, so if they do bark, we are up.
We have had to put a trail cam up, in the barn, to find out what we needed to bait the trap with.

We recently had some teens, actually damaging homes, and they burned some cars out here.  Nobody in the neighborhood could believe, that they hadn't been shot.
But they were too young to drive, and the canine tracked them right to their home.

The last idiot teens that were breaking into barns out here, got caught, because a farmer shot their truck.  Farmer never got charged, but the boys did.

Really a sad world we live in, after watching those videos.  A lot of crazies.

Same problem out here. We were fine for years because we were in the middle of nowhere, and everyone knew everyone else.

Now we have a big city that has sprung up all around us. We are still in the middle of nowhere, so that just makes for idle hands and idle minds for children, who have nothing better to do then look for trouble.

I fear one of them getting shot also. There is nothing out here, so anyone coming out this way that does not live here, or is not visiting someone out here, is just looking to bring trouble. The dogs out here can hear a car that does not belong, miles before they arrive. When the dogs bark, we look.

I just went out to turn off the sprinklers and interrupted a bunny party in my front yard. I know they were all seeking refuge there because the coyotes were about. The dogs don't bark at the rabbits, and they don't bark at the coyotes, but they do let me know they are about. It is a whole different alert system, than with people, they are not familiar with.

I don't have a door bell camera, because that would involve installing a door bell, and I find those devices tend to encourage visitors.

I DO, however, have several security cameras about the place. They catch pretty much everything coming and going, but have only caught a prowler once, at around 10 at night. I think he must have spread the word that I don't encourage visitors after sundown, since that was the last time anyone did any prowling about here.

Back in 2014, I was sitting out on the balcony enjoying the night air one fine evening when I heard two sharp cracks coming from next door immediately followed by two sets of feet rapidly crunching gravel in the drive way... and I could hear them making tracks and slapping pavement even out on the county road, hauling ass to get away. Apparently, a couple of fine young meth heads found out the old man who lived next door at the time had a gun collection stored in his garage, and thought they would just help themselves. He caught them on his camera, and unfortunately for them the garage was not the only place he stored guns. Rather than give them any warning, he just crept outside with his rifle and unexpectedly sent two rounds their way, and that was enough to convince them to vacate.

.
Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

And the environmental-friendly-part of this deterrent is that the act didn't require hard-wiring or batteries.
You guys out in the boonies are way ahead of the city-folk when it comes to saving the planet.
