In classic NHS fashion, it is impossible to check these figures because admissions are not broken down by age and, even if they were, the specific age range chosen by Ms Pritchard is not one recognised in official data sets. However, it is still clear that the statistics are not quite what they seem.
Earlier this week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published a comparison of hospital admissions by age,
based on peak levels on January 17. It shows that in 15 to 24-year-olds, the admission rate throughout July ranged
between 55 per cent and 105 per cent of the January peak.
For 25 to 44s, it swung between 26 and 62 per cent.
So in terms of actual numbers, young people are currently being admitted to hospital at about the same level – or lower
– than during the winter high point. What is different this time is that the number of older people being admitted to hospital
has collapsed thanks to the vaccination rollout, and that has consequently bumped up the percentage of younger people.
The ONS data show that the percentage of admissions in the 65 to 74 age range is now just 12 per cent of the winter peak.
For 75s to 84s, it is 10 per cent, while those 85 and over are being admitted at just eight per cent of the previous high.
So it is entirely unsurprising that younger people are making up the bulk of hospital admissions. In fact, the latest data from
Public Health England (PHE) suggest that about 68 per cent of all hospital admissions in the delta variant wave are in the
under-50s age group.
Ms Pritchard also said there were 5,000 people "seriously ill" with Covid, presumably referring to the number currently in
hospital. There are now 5,896 people in hospital with the virus – just 15 per cent of the 39,254 at the peak of the January
wave.
However, it is unlikely that they are all seriously ill.
The latest figures from the Intensive Care National Audit Officers show that fewer than 1,000 people are in intensive care
with Covid, and there are good data from the Covid Clinical Information Network showing that patients in this wave are
needing less time in hospital.
In the January peak, fewer than half of patients had been discharged after 10 days. Now, 50 per cent of patients have been
sent home by day four, with only one in five still needing hospital care by day 10.
This can also be seen in the death figures. Nate Silver, the eminent US statistician, estimates that Britain's case fatality rate
is now around 0.2 to 0.3 per cent, compared to two per cent during the alpha or Kent variant wave.
"That's what happens when you vaccinate a very large percentage of your elderly population, as the UK has," said Mr Silver.
Ms Pritchard was making the point to encourage more people to get jabbed. Her comments came after it was announced
on Wednesday that 16 and 17-year-olds will now be offered the Pfizer vaccine.
Young people have been more hesitant than older groups in vaccine uptake, with the Government threatening to bring in
vaccine passports for attending nightclubs and other potential "super-spreader" events in September.
"The best way they can absolutely protect themselves is to get that vaccine if they haven't already," said Ms Pritchard.
Undoubtedly this is true – but it is worth bearing in mind that the chance of young people being admitted to hospital after
catching Covid is very small. Data from PHE show that, for the under-50s, just 0.7 per cent of infections will result in an
overnight hospital stay.
In contrast, for the over 50s it is 2.9 per cent – proving that Covid is still a more serious problem for older people, even with
the vaccination rollout.
A more useful figure for persuading young people to have the jab might have been the percentage entering hospital unvaccinated.
PHE figures show that just 6.7 per cent of hospitalised under-50s were double jabbed, whereas the unvaccinated made up 72
per cent of admissions.
Likewise, according to PHE, just four people who received two doses in the under-50s category have died in the delta wave,
compared to 34 in the unvaccinated group.
So the real truth is that the risk from Covid for young people is very small, but they can lower it even further by accepting the offer
of a jab. Doing so may bring wider benefits to both themselves and society. While protecting others should never be a reason for
vaccination, it is worth bearing in mind that many youngsters are anxious about passing the disease to older family members and
fear more disruption to their education if a new virus wave were to emerge.
Lockdowns, school closures and bubbles have had a devastating impact on the mental health of youngsters, but could be avoided
entirely if we reach herd immunity. So the advantages of vaccination for youngsters go well beyond the physical health gains.

Another Finnish pharmaceutical company, Rokote Laboratories, has been developing a coronavirus vaccine in nasal spray form, but has struggled to gain financing.
“Tackling the pandemic probably requires, in addition to a vaccine, a preventive or early-acting drug. This drug also helps especially in a situation where vaccine coverage threatens to remain too low for herd immunity,” said Väänänen.
WHO warned against ivermectin use except in clinical trials
The firm said that the drug's active ingredients – aprotinin, hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin – are well-known and widely used drugs, but in this product are used in a new, targeted manner on the upper respiratory mucous membrane.
All the drug molecules covered by the patent are approved for the treatment of other diseases, but if used systemically, for instance as pills or infusions swallowed by patients, the amounts of drugs would be high and potentially harmful.
For topical use, as in a nasal spray, the concentrations of the active ingredients throughout the body remain very low but are sufficient locally to prevent the passage and replication of the virus, making the drug safer and more effective, says Therapeutica Borealis.
Aprotinin is a protease inhibitor while ivermectin is an antiparasitic and hydroxychloroquine has been used against malaria – and has been touted as a Covid-19 treatment by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and former US President Donald Trump among others.
Earlier this year ivermectin manufacturer Merck said there was “no scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect against Covid-19” and “no meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with Covid-19.”
In March, the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended against using ivermectin in patients with Covid-19 except for clinical trials, because of a lack of data demonstrating its benefits. The European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration issued similar warnings. It has however been used for Covid patients in countries including South Africa and India.

Ivermectin has been around for years and used safely, but I guess it's better to use a cocktail of gene therapies that has NEVER had any data to "demonstrate its benefits" by forcing them on people in a "vaccine", even though scores of people have "demonstrated its harm".
I can't believe they had the audacity to add that line to this article. SMH!
I hope the maker of this nasal spray doesn't decide to commit suicide by jumping off the 8th floor at midnight. Waiting patiently for this to hit the market.

I think it`s against the "rules" to give any safe alternative therapy / remedys .......The grand plan is to commit genocide with the so called covid vaccines.....and no but`s....no if`s...it`s the plan and we are not supposed to abandon the great plan that kills us.

... and I know I keep banging-on about it, is the garbled messaging that the media performs in attempts to maintain
the trauma-provoking situation.
Take as another example the front page of the BBC website, where a multiple of of preferred narratives are folded
into an article. Many don't appreciate subtle-wording of 'news-pieces' and tend to only seek information relative to
themselves. A rational act -of course, but one that can be abused when a particular subject is waning.
The Covid-19 is a virus, it mutates but is still a virus. If the lethality of that virus lessens due to its recasting, then the
concern for those who can and are being infected would ease. But in the media-world, that means the fading phase
doesn't sell as well as a headline-grabber that warns of doom and gloom.
One possible way to retain an audience is to push as much distress-forming wordage onto these times when politicalised
topics need to be changed due to reality-based legislative alterations that occurs between countries dealing with a public
from within and outside a particular nation.
This ratings-seizing trick is done by offering information slanted towards provoking emotional responses from an audience
in hopes that it will force them to stay with their specific brand. In a visual form, it would be like fish waiting in the corner
of their tank because that is where the food-dispenser is positioned.
And so the BBC states: 'Quarantine-free travel from France to UK resumes' as a link to an article where the headline changes.

So from the link that says 'From France', the piece is actually referring to 'To France' and ignores the obvious confusion it may
have caused. France and the UK have separate rules regarding the Coof and the explanation is only defined in a vague UK-sense
in the first paragraph.

The UK is currently on the French amber list. Entry requirements are different depending on whether you

If you are not fully vaccinated, you will need to have an essential reason to travel from France to a country
on France’s amber list.
Those who are not fully vaccinated will also need to present the following documents:
*a completed International Travel Certificate to confirm their essential reason for travel. In exceptional
circumstances, the French Consulate in London may be able to assist with travel for an essential reason
not listed on the International Travel Certificate
*a completed ‘sworn statement’ (déclaration sur l’honneur) form self-certifying they are not suffering from
symptoms associated with coronavirus and have not been in contact with confirmed cases in the preceding
fortnight, and that they will self-isolate for seven days after arrival.

*From Sunday 18 July, arrivals from the UK aged 12 years old or over are required to present evidence of a
negative test (PCR or antigen) taken within 24 hours of departure (first flight departure in case of connecting flight).
