I have to eat a little bit of crow. The Smith and Wesson rifle can be ordered with the stated features from the factory. That one looks like this:

... and so it appears to be a stock rifle in the dickwad's picture. That rifle, however, is more expensive due to the build and add on features, and MSRP for it is 1049.00.
AND - the USA Today article says he carried 7 magazines rather than 20. I attribute the discrepancy in how much ammo he carried to the fog of war and unceratin reporting among the various news sources. That would be 210 rounds, rather than the otherwise reported 600 rounds, which is more in line with the 375 rounds he is known to have purchased. That amount by itself is weird, since 5.56 and most center-fiire rifle ammo comes package in multiples of 20 - where did that extra 15 rounds above 360 come from? How did he manage to buy an odd number of rounds? did he just get a random amount from some loose-ammo bin at the store?
