Swedish state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell says in an interview with MTV News that increasingly younger people have become infected in the Stockholm area. Tegnell has risen to international prominence because Sweden’s flea line is significantly different from the strict line in many other countries.

Tegnell is unable to assess the exact reason why infection rates have been on the rise in the Stockholm area recently.

- We certainly do not know why the rise is due. One reason is that we have started testing more nursing staff, there are now younger people among those infected. Tests have also begun in nursing homes. But then there’s the part where we don’t know where the growth is coming from. It is possible that people will no longer follow the advice and instructions given. It is therefore important to recall that the recommendations made should continue to be followed, Tegnell said in an interview with MTV News last Friday.

Restaurants are allowed to be open

In turn, the infection situation in Sweden as a whole varies.

- Some areas are now seeing growth, although these are small areas, so nothing can be said for sure. There are also areas where the number of infections is declining and areas where there is no change. The situation varies greatly in different parts of Sweden.

In Sweden, restaurants may be open, but their operations are limited, for example, in terms of customer numbers and safety distances. However, there have been problems with the number of customers in the restaurants. According to Tegnell, the operation of restaurants should be monitored.



- It is important that inspections are carried out on the basis of the laws and restrictions that are now in force. The operation of restaurants must be monitored and also intervened when necessary. It is clear that more needs to be done to do this, Tegnell says.

The Swedes queue on the terraces

Over the weekend, the Swedes were on the move again in large numbers,  said MTV News assistant Jukka Lehto yesterday. 

- There has been a queue for the terraces and people have completely forgotten the restrictions and how the spread of the virus should be prevented, Lehto told Yesterday in Kymmenen Uutis.

The May Day celebrated this week will bring cold colors to the authorities in Sweden, Lehto says.

- We are really afraid of what will happen, Lehto says.
