I think you're right, although it's suggested that any religious chant might have done the trick -if the situation was real.
There's an idea that such concentration on a self-belief fortifies the soul and creates a confidence that some animals
can pick up on.
Of course, science doesn't really having any evidence on it as the hungry bear will just take half of your head off in
one swipe due to its over-riding confidence that it's hungry! Willpower is still an uncalibrated thing.
