This is a very well known phenomenon, and is also very common, but Gordi makes a good point. Are the people who suffer from this more sensitive to things most of us are not?. For example a 13 year old can hear things a 25 year old cannot, so is the 13 year old just "hearing" things that are not there .
There are endless medical reasons for this but the basic question remains, just because we cant hear the voices does that mean they are not real?.
If the majority of people were colour blind, then the few people who could see colour would be seen as ill as they are seeing something thats not there.
