'A woman has been accused of being in a child sex ring and also having sex with a dog.
Maria Alfonzo, 31, is charged with having sex with the animal in Alnwick, Northumberland, earlier this year.
She and her co-accused Caroline Scurr, 42, also face multiple child sex allegations.
They are both accused of being part of a vile UK-based dark web network of paedophiles, along with a third
defendant Simon Mallen. All three face charges of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence.
Neither woman entered a plea at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court, with Scurr, of North Shields,
remaining largely silent throughout the 20-minute hearing. She spoke only to confirm details including her address.
Alfonzo, from Kingskerswell, Devon, who gave her nationality as Venezuelan, appeared via video link, while Mallen
was not present in court. Scurr was granted conditional bail. Her conditions include having no contact with any child
under 16. Both defendants will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on January 8.
The court heard the case has been reserved for Judge Christopher Prince.
