Matthew Halliday, 30, told police officers “I hope you’ve all got strong stomachs” when he was found with the
sickening collection of videos and photos. The sick pervert, from Liverpool, had extreme porn showing bestiality
and pictures depicting "horrific" sexualised violence among the collection.
When he was arrested, Halliday even bragged about a WhatsApp group he said shared files for "shock value”,
Liverpool Crown Court heard today. Halliday had worked as a security guard at a shipbuilders' firm in Birkenhead,
and lived with his partner and her young son.
When police searched his home, they seized his Samsung Galaxy phone, a Hewlett Packard laptop and hard drive.
Paul Blasbery, prosecuting, told the court they discovered 81 Category A –the most serious category –indecent
images and videos on his devices.
There were a further 86 Category B and 281,318 Category C files, showing girls aged two to three, and boys aged 10.
Halliday, who also had nine extreme porn movies and pictures, was interviewed by police and denied knowledge of
usernames and email addresses found on his computer equipment and phone.
He claimed he lent his phone to colleagues he watched films with on night shifts and didn't know what they looked at.
But he confessed he had been interested in hardcore porn and ended up clicking through to a Category C image of a
child. Halliday said he was in a WhatsApp group which shared adult porn "altered to be funny", but denied it was
extreme porn.
When interviewed again in November, he said he felt "physically sick" at the number of images police uncovered.
He said he thought they would find "a handful" of Category C pictures and denied responsibility for all the files.
He claimed he had no idea where they came from, despite incriminating internet searches on his phone.
The paedophile again tried to blame colleagues and suggested his laptop and hard drive were also used by others.
His phone featured software allowing him to use the internet anonymously and he had a computer cleaning programme.
Halliday later admitted three counts of downloading and one of possessing indecent images of children.
The pervert, who has no previous convictions, also pleaded guilty to possessing extreme porn.
Bernice Campbell, defending, said "ashamed" and depressed Halliday had mental health problems and attempted suicide
"several times". She said he had autism and his mum paid privately for a psychologist in the past, who said he was possibly
bipolar or schizophrenic.
Ms Campbell said Halliday went to the NHS for help and was told in his words "to get a grip", adding: "He feels very let down
by the system." However, Judge Gary Woodhall said: "There are lots of people with autism and other conditions who don't go
looking for these sorts of images."
He added that Halliday amassed a "library of indecent images", including pictures of male and female "infants", plus animal
porn. He said: "The images show very young children being subjected to penetrative sexual activity.
"The extreme porn shows shocking and sexualised violence and beastiality."
The judge, however, sentenced Halliday to 15 months in jail, suspended for two years.
He said he was "just persuaded" the public would be better protected by Halliday receiving a community-based sentence.
The judge ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and a 30-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
He also ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register and to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years...'
