The Bannister? I've been told by my Ancestors that I communicate with that when they come to you in a Complete Form and Clothing that you'd recognize them in, They also know of their surroundings.
They can make use of objects and even seat down.
Now it's very likely her Great-Grandmother was looking in on her, she may have been making her rounds of the family.
She would not be seen by you that why because you're not a Blood Relative or someone she was concerned with.
Let me ask you, was your wife ill or feeling bad at the time or stressed out?
She may have come by to check on her.
