From what I've seen in Europe, the overseas media isn't much better than American media.  Their focus is different, but they too are owned and told to push certain narratives.

A big problem in Europe (probably Asia as well) is the existence of old laws that stiffly punish slander and libel.  I'm not a fan of either, but the way these laws function "in the real world" is that anytime a critical statement is made of a powerful person or entity, they often have the "pull" to use the legal system to punish those who dare to open their mouths.  "Insulting an official" is a crime in at least some of the European countries, and that includes telling them they're useless and corrupt.  minusculebiggrin

So when one sees instances of corruption or incompetence in Europe, it is not that the public at large is blind to what is happening.  They just don't want big legal bills and the hassle of going to court and possibly being convicted ... not to mention the shunning they'll get from family and friends for pot-stirring.
