If they say anything at all, it will be a wiffle ball. Too much at stake from various perspectives.
--> Some of the UFOs are classified projects. Those won't be revealed.
--> Some of the UFOs are classified projects of other countries, and they won't tip their hand on how much they know about those.
--> And for true unknowns (or perhaps, some knowns), admitting what they are would be tantamount to stating there are "things out there" that can do whatever they please, including the abduction of humans, and that the government cannot stop them. Not that government has a lot of credibility at this point, but that admission would pretty much rip away what is left of the credibility and authority of government -- at any level. People won't happily accept the idea that we're not the apex predators and that something else occasionally preys on us.
