'The pair were travelling to a funeral with other family members when they were
held at gunpoint and attacked.

A 35-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter have been raped by a gang of
highway robbers in India as they travelled to a funeral.
The pair were with other family members in Bulandshahr in the state of Uttar Pradesh
on Sunday when they were attacked.

The robbers threw a rod at the car to make it stop and at gunpoint forced it off the
road and into adjoining fields. The men were tied up while the woman and her teenage
daughter were gang-raped.

A male family member said: "We were taken to fields and we were not allowed to raise
our heads. "We repeatedly pleaded them to take our belongings but to release our women
but every time, they hit us with sticks, rods and a hammer

"They even did not listen to the cries of woman and my niece."
The robbers then fled with stolen money and jewellery...'

Two teenage girls have been gang-raped and killed after doing what half a billion women and girls are forced to do every day – go outdoors to try to find somewhere discreet to go to the toilet.

Today, 2.5 billion people live without access to a toilet, forcing women to walk to dark and dangerous places to find the privacy they need – those same dark and dangerous places where men wait to attack them.

Those two cousins, just 14 and 16 years old, had left their homes in the Indian village of Katra, in Uttar Pradesh, because they had no toilet at home. They were never to return, found hanging from a tree after being brutally attacked.

A report in the Times of India in February this year quoted the police in another district of Uttar Pradesh as saying that 95% of cases of rape and molestation took place when women and girls had left their homes to "answer a call of nature".

Many of the crimes are being downplayed by German authorities and the national media, apparently to avoid fueling anti-immigration sentiments.
