I've seen plenty of successful organizations go down, mostly because they undermined themselves trying to satisfy the greed of a few at the top. Cost cutting, cutting corners, firing good staff, promoting brown-nosers etc. It is always the same story, it must be something in the group dynamics that brings about the self-destructive behavior.
Government is just as bad about forming cliques and instituting revolving door mechanisms. The tax payers have been taken for a ride for a long time.
