Notre Dame fire caused by 'computer glitch' rector reveals

'Rector Patrick Chauvet, who is responsible for the building's administration, made the claim during a meeting
of local business owners. He adding that "we may find out what happened in two or three months".



On Thursday, French police investigators said they think an electrical short-circuit was the most likely cause of the fire.
Le Parisien, the French newspaper, has reported that a fire an alarm went off at Notre Dame shortly after 6pm Monday
but a faulty computer showed the growing blaze in the wrong place.

The paper also reported the flames may have been sparked by an electrical problem in an elevator at the bottom of the
cathedral's giant spire. Rector Chauvet added that there were fire alarms throughout the ancient building, describing it
as "well protected".

Judith Kagan, a conservation official at France's Culture Ministry, said the artworks inside Notre Dame had suffered
no major damage from the fire. The pieces were being removed from the building for their protection, he added.

Over $1 billion (£770m) has already poured in from people from all walks of life around the world to restore Notre Dame.

Some billionaire philanthropists have stepped up, as well as normal Brits using a website set up by the National Funding
Scheme charity.

The world watched in horror earlier this week as the famous monument burned, with French Christians filmed bursting into
song in the streets. An array of treasures were seen being rushed from the cathedral by a "human chain”, including gilded
candlesticks, artworks and furnishings.

Amazingly some of the cathedral's most precious objects, including a relic purported to be the crown of thorns worn by
Jesus Christ on the cross, were saved...'
