"Paleoconservatism"?

Back in the Old Stone Age (i.e. the "paleolithic") when I was growing up, that is EXACTLY what the notion of "conservative" entailed - folks who wanted to conserve what was, rather than what the Socialists want to foist off upon us! It was not "paleoconservative", it was simply "conservative", as in "conserving what already is"...

... of course, that was before the "neoconservative" assault on humanity. Now that there are "neoconservatives" (which are neither "neo" nor "conservative"), I suppose there have to be "paleoconservatives" to carry the flag of actual conservatism forward.

Neoconservatives were defined by their founder Irving Kristol (an old Socialist) as "disillusioned socialists". Note well that they were still Socialists, just disillusioned... so the theory was that they could rename themselves and thereby fool conservatives into embracing socialism. It almost worked. "Neo"conservatives are why I abandoned the Republican party years ago. They were taking it over and remaking it into a "Worker's Paradise", just like the old Soviet Union, which was a notion entirely opposed to actual conservatism.

Then Trump came along, and appears to have bent them over the Oval Office desk.

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’
