It's a shit show.

I don't mind the layout, with the catagories on the left and new topics on the right, but I hope we get a shout/chat box on top and an alert system for when there are alerts for responses to a post or responses to a thread(if you are the creator).

If you find it too difficult to navigate (perfectly normal at first until you get used to it), you can always take a break, go down to the bottom of the forum, find the dropdown menu on the left and choose Dark 1.8 - which was the old version. We will be keeping it there for a while.

Without Dark 1.8, as broken as it is, I'll be unable to participate here. Unless we can spark up that other new theme. That one seemed to work ok for me. But this default one just leaves me spinning my wheels, unable to do anything at all, and finally simply closing the tab in frustration at not being able to go anywhere or do anything. Then I come back and switch back to the old theme, but if it's not there to switch to...



My guess is that it's because it's just like me - old and broken. It's a kindred spirit, and even without a shoutbox or the ability to rate posts any more, at least I can still get around the site with it.



Let's not ditch the old theme entirely - at least not until after I'm dead, and younger, smarter people are flocking in to replace me!

Honestly, this is a disaster. No banner, mutilated avatars and twice as much work to find half as much information.

It's my understanding that the banners will return, and the avatars will be back to normal or near-normal - as well as other neat stuff for functionality - after the testing period is over. So hang in there. My ONLY gripe with it is that I am unable to navigate the site. The home page is pretty, but if that's all there is for me, I might as well go fishing. I understand fish.

Grace is the one here who does all the internetting by cell phone, so she's going to give it a whirl tomorrow and report back to me. My opinion in the matter does not matter so much, because all I use phones for is to talk on.

Switch to the MyBBPro theme. It is a light theme but except for the recent posts being at the bottom of the board, it will be more what you can deal with. Ratings don't work, I can't get to my UserCP and there are probably other issues but at least you won't have to deal with the abysmal portal interface.

Can't do it. All that brightness striking me in the face sparks off something like migraines, because I'm subject to cluster headaches. Bright sun flashing off of car chrome does the same to me when I'm driving, which can often become a real adventure on bright days if I forget my shades.

For some odd reason, I still have the Dark 1.8 available. Maybe it's because i immediately switched back to it after finding the cell phone theme wasn't working for me. In any event, that is what is allowing me to get around here still. Otherwise, I'd have to be silent with no shoutbox yet and no way to navigate to threads to comment.

The "responsive_MyBB" would be my new choice, but it suffers the same problem - we've not got the switch to "go dark" functional yet.

Don't think for a minute I don't appreciate all the work that has been done to save the site from total obliteration or the hours and stress that has been put in to keep things afloat but radical change, to quite frankly put it, to a format that is not conducive to identifying and absorbing information in a succinct and timely manner is not something I am at all interested in wading through.

As I have been able to dismiss the gawdawful portal format by switching themes, even though things don't work properly and it is hard on the eyes, I will continue to use a more normal interface that provides tons more information at a single glance without trudging through things I am not interested in.

If you like the new look, more power to you and best of luck but you can take your drama queen comment and ____________!

It's all I'm asking. One week.

If the site shows stability like it's doing now (I looked at the stats and numbers and we're doing fantastic), then next weekend, I'll start adding the plugins and do some alterations.

IF no one likes it, as in NO ONE, not just two or three, then I will start looking for a new theme that hopefully will satisfy most.

Personally, I love this theme, it's easy and fast. But hey, I DID take the time to try and find things.

My gotos are from Posts up there. New threads and today's threads. Clicking on (new) brings you to the last reply I've seen. When the discussion bubble on the left of the thread is filled in blue, it means there's new posts in there. The description of who started the thread, when, and who responded last is written right under the thread title. Simple. But if I just sat there, looked at it and bitched about it, I never would have figured it out. It's EASY once you know.

Tutorials are needed, that's a given. Essential. But at least, give it a try.

That's the problem here, right now. A forum like this isn't just for one or two individuals that want this or want that. It's for everyone.

Mobiles are what the younger generations are using, whether we like it or not. The mobile version of this theme is fantastic. It's good looking, easy to navigate and extremely fast in response time.

The best mobile app I've seen in a LONG time.

So, the desktop is different, yes it is. From what we had, it's night and day. But remember, NO plugins are on yet. Means NO Alerts, NO shoutbox, NO tagging, NO rating, NO starring, NO Avatar boxes as they should be, NO banners up there yet, NO recent threads upgrades, NO announcement bars and way more.

Those are all to come once we're 100% sure that the infrastructure is flawless. And so far, it is.

Imagine, we're having ONE glitch so far and it comes from Android phones, with a limited access with smilies. ONE glitch. With smilies.

Versus a site crashing down at every move we made.

We don't leave messages asking you to be patient for nothing or just to be polite. We KNOW from past experiences that this will get better. We've been there, done that. Ask Senona, she'll absolutely agree with this, because she KNOWS.

The version you LOVE so much, Dark 1.8, well, when we brought it out, for RN3, some members wanted to lynch us, right then and there. They didn't like this, they didn't like that, they wanted this, they wanted that, it was a shitshow, a disaster, and we were up to no good. Some members left and never came back. They hated it. The shit we got when we launched it, you wouldn't believe.

But isn't that what YOU want back right now, though?

I don't know. That should give you a hint.

But if it becomes a consensus, after we reinstall plugins, that it's still a shitshow and a disaster, I'll change it. Majority wins.

Until then, again, please show a little patience and trust. It'd be appreciated.

My goodness, what part of "there are no plug-ins installed yet for shoutboxes, banners, alerts, tagging etc etc" that some of you do not get?


Once again, this is the bare basics.

You all know RN3 as it is now, BUT it did not start out looking this way

It started out just the same as in BARE BONES-- NO STRUCTURE. NO AVATARS. NO BANNERS.

Yet, with much hair pulling and tweaking, we were able to create what we have today.

Unfortunately, that platform is unstable and can no longer be updated.


Hence the newer, much faster platform

Once again, the bare bones.
We must make sure of its stability before we go further.



Plus we DO work regular jobs, so much of what is done is on our 'off' days .... and much of this is on Sol. Who does not get paid, but does it because he loves RogueNation and everyone here.



So please, please everyone just be patient.


We appreciate the positive feedback, what you like or don't like.

That was why Sol made it available for everyone to play with.


But some of it is getting borderline rude and we are doing our best



Now all we are asking is, please do not judge the new platform just on its bare bones.


Most of you are totally ignoring what Sol and I have said about not having ANY plug-ins yet. Meaning, we ARE NOT DONE with adding all the goodies.

YES, we will have a banner
YES, we will have avatars
YES, we will have a shout box
YES, the layout of the threads/posts etc can be tweaked


YES, YES, YES, YES..... 



Once again, please be patient
This is NOT the final product.


And as Sol said, if after everything gets updated with the plug-ins, and tweaked here or there and a majority still have issues, well we will try something else.



But trust me when I say, that you all will see a noticeable difference once all the bells and whistles have been installed.



And as soon as I know we have decided on a new platform -- we have to, there is no way around it --- then I will create another tutorial for that one as I did for this one.



Patience, people.... that's all we are asking for, your patience and understanding

Personally, I love this theme, it's easy and fast. But hey, I DID take the time to try and find things.

Don't get me wrong - I've said more than once that my problem is a "me" problem, not a problem with the theme. I'm all for keeping the theme and tweaking it, because it does provide a service to folks who connect especially on cell phones, which is more and more prevalent these days. The fact that I can't doesn't negate the fact that others DO. It's for those others that I think it should be kept and built upon. The rest of us Luddites have choices, so we don't have to use it if we don't want, and those who do will have THAT choice. It's pretty, and it's sleek, and my inability to use it doesn't mean that I think it should be taken from everyone who can.



Preferences are predicated on choices, and I'm not for taking that choice away from the folks that it is easier for.-



I'm also of the opinion that it's a vision towards the future, and will facilitate new members arriving when they see that it's now a better thing for their chosen connection method, and that can in no way be a bad thing.

Those temporary deficiencies are not a problem nor a bar for me, either. Some I never used before, and others are no longer available in Dark 1.8, either, broken as it is. I know those things will re-emerge over time, so it's no sweat.

I'm pretty sure, from all the comments so far, that the majority likes it, and further that it will facilitate new membership due to ease of use on their chosen platforms, and for those reasons it's here to stay so long as it continues to exhibit the stability it is doing now. Us old farts still have choices, so a new theme is really no skin off our backs - we can still continue to do things the Neanderthal way if we chose to, no problem.



I will admit to going in last night to see if there was anything I could do to darken the background on one of the other new-looking themes, and found myself out of my depth. I backed away slowly since I didn't know what needed pinched, and didn't change anything at all. I'm almost certain the computer growled a warning at me - can computers smell fear?

That is inherent to the new mybb 1.8 platform. It’s a platform issue. Not a theme issue. They have a patch for it right now, I did install it but some still have the same problem. There is a code fix, I’ve done that too and the word is that it works for some and not for others. That is a mybb problem. They are aware of it and will have fixed it by the next upgrade which will be mybb 1.9. Nothing we can personally do about it so we have to live with it right now.

On the PC, I have resolved my problems with the portal by switching to the myBBPro theme. This is fine as it shows a normal forum layout although I have to scroll to the bottom to see the recent posts section. Even though I can't rate posts or get to my user settings, I will continue to use this interface despite its shortcomings.

I've tried the site on my Android phone with several different browsers and even when set to desktop mode, the portal page is all that is available and the option to use the myBBPro theme isn't offered and same on my Android tablet as well. I didn't try logging in on these devices.

I also noticed that when using a PC browser without logging in, the myBBPro theme isn't an option either.

This is meant to be helpful information, not a complaint.
