Tamar loves sun bathing. She will stay out in the sun longer than I am comfortable with. I have to make her come in. Her fur is even hot to the touch. Maybe my Tamar too is a little bit touched.

Tamar is beautiful. She looks like she was not quite ready to come inside.

Tamar is the reincarnation of "Togo". She is the pure spawn of Satan.

There is no dog on this planet more mouthy and pig headed as Tamar. I thought her mother Bellah was the daughter of Satan. I am starting to believe that Tamar is Satan himself.

That may explain her tolerance and love for the sun. And why she always has that evil look that makes people think she is planning on eating them.

Did you say daughter of Satan? Meet Rumour. If she isn’t the spawn of the devil himself she is at least possessed by several demons  tinylaughing She’s an instigator and a fun killer. She has this high pinched squeal noise she makes when she thinks anyone is getting more attention than her and she embarrasses me when I have to take her in public. I’ve never had issues training a dog until we got her. This is the dog that almost made me give up on dogs forever.

Yep. I recognize the family trait.

That is how they get us though.

We fall in love with the reprobate, every time.

Since we are posting pix of pooches, this is Logan. He was my male Timber-Wolf / German Shepherd hybrid. Logan was a 145 pound solid block of badass.

He was guarding my remote here. You do NOT screw with my remote when Logan was about.

I'm sure that was a law.

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

You spoke of him past tense. Is he gone?

I heard those hybrid wolves can be unpredictable.  Is that just BS?

He's probably gone by now. The ex kept him in the breakup. I dunno why - I suppose it was just to annoy me. She kept both of them, the male and female, and she never could do anything with them. She died right at 4 years ago, and I'd guess the dogs were gone sometime before that, because she couldn't do anything with them.

They can be unpredictable for folks that don't know their way about them. You can't get rid of one, neither sell it nor give it away, after it is about a year old. By then, it has bonded with you, and will never bond with anyone else afterwards. You have to impress on them that YOU are the Alpha when they are still young, and they will never depart from that, but other folks are all a potential threat to them afterwards. Once they have bonded with you, from then on you and your family are their "pack", and they will defend you even to the point of their own death. Everyone else becomes a potential threat to you in their eyes.

They are smart, and train well if you take the time to train them. I could sell a raw pup for about 500 bucks, but a police trained one went for about 2500. They do not respond well to "physical" training. My ex could do nothing with them because she used the threat of physical force too much. She would threaten the female in particular with a belt, to try to get here into her crate, and that never worked out for her. I, on the other hand, could just go over to the crate and tap the top of it's entryway with my hand, and she'd run right into it, with no trouble.

The dogs were smarter than the ex - I could train them to hand signals, but she couldn't be trained to use the hand signals.

They are only unpredictable to folks who do not take the time to understand how their minds work in the context of their instincts and the wolf part of their culture. They are not actually dogs, and dog type training does not always work with them. You have to account for the wolf part of their nature, and train accordingly. Not many people do that, and then they run into trouble with the "unpredictability" - they are trying to predict dog behavior, rather than wolf behaviors.

Sorry you lost your dogs.

Had a lot more to say and decided it could wait.

Such is the nature of life.

I've only had one other dog since then, a hound of the "mountain cur" variety. He acted dumb as hell, but he wasn't - you just had to understand what he was trying to say, and communicate on his level, because he was not about to sink to yours. He got in a fight with a bear that tore him up a bit, and then after I got him all patched up and healed, the dumbass went back for a rematch, and was never seen again.

Right after we moved here, there was a more or less feral, outdoor cat that my sister fed and claimed as a pet. Blackie used to chase that cat every time he saw it, until one day I went out onto the deck, called him to me, and put his head between my hands, looked into his eyes and held his gaze, and said "That cat lives here same as you do. Leave it be". And you know, he never chased that cat again after that.

We briefly had another dog, for about a week, but it was young and rambunctious, and Grace couldn't keep up with it while I was at work, so we had to return it.

Now all we have is a couple cats (who are mortal enemies to one another), and believe it or not you really CAN'T herd the little bastards! If I didn't speak fluent cat, I'd not be able to do anything with them at all. I paid attention to how they spoke, and what each yowl or meow variant meant, and learned how to speak cat to gain control of them. If you speak human to them, they just kind of stare at you as if to say "how dare you speak that gutteral, vulgar  language to my royal majesty - begone with you!"

He looks exactly like Luna. One of my neighbor's wolf hybrid. They found the hard way that a member of a wolf pack, just notifies the pack leader of what is in the environment, and it is the leaders job to dispatch of it. So you human, do your job.

Luna was a darn thief though. she was always stealing something my yard. I had to stop putting out garden ornaments because Luna when take them and hide them. She once grabbed a loaf of bread out my hand and ran off into the woods. That is how I found one of her hiding places.

Luna was a wicked but lovable pain in the ass.

When they notify you like that, they are waiting for the "ok" to do something about it, as they won't do anything without the approval of the Alpha in those cases. For example, when that dumbass broke into my house, mine were crated. They let me know there was an intruder about, but when I opened the crates they looked at me and said "so what now?" When I swept my hand from them towards the intruder, it was on. They kept him busy and bought me time to get to my shotgun and limber it up.

I can't remember not having a dog around.  First one was Rusty (an Irish Setter). The one before Luke was Socks (a tubular Schnauzer ... as in as fat as fat gets). Bunches in-between. I've had three favorites (Goliath, Sparky and ol' Luke here). People said Goliath had some wolf in him, but I think it was just Shepard. Sure was the family's protector though.

A vet told me that you can tell by the teeth. Hybrids have longer canines than pure German Shepherds. My female looked pure German Shepherd, but she had those telltale teeth, which prompted the vet to say "this dog is part wolf". When I asked him how he knew, that's what he told me.

Never had a wold hybrid, but I grew up with German Shepards. They were extremely protective and loyal.

My granmother tried to spank my Brother, Dolly was not having it. He chased her away, then took off her skirt and brought it back to my Brother. She hated Dolly forever after that.

Charlie on the other hand was the terror of the neighborhood. The police came to the house with a subpoena in his name. Mother had to go to court to represent him, and he got off Scott free. He just could not be caught outside the fence or he was in big trouble. Charges were brought against him because he jumped the fence and bit the neighbor, stopping him from spanking his child. The kid loved Charlie. Whenever he saw the cops making their rounds, he would open the fence and make Charlie get back inside.

To tell you the truth, almost all the neighbors loved Charlie, except the one neighbor. He really was a good guy, and eventually came around.

I think I was about 6 when mom sent Goliath to live out at the farm. Ironically, we moved to the farm later that same year or early in the next.
