Canada stabbings: Police hunt suspects after killing spree in Saskatchewan

'Canadian police have launched a huge manhunt for two men suspected of stabbing at least 10 people to death
in a rampage that has shocked the nation. Two suspects named as Damien Sanderson and Myles Sanderson are
on the run and considered armed and dangerous.

Victims were found in 13 locations in the remote indigenous community James Smith Cree Nation and nearby Weldon.
It is of the deadliest acts of mass violence Canada has seen. PM Justin Trudeau said it was "heartbreaking".

At least 15 others were injured in the killing spree, with police urging residents to be extremely vigilant as they conduct
a search operation across one of Canada's largest and most remote regions.

"I am shocked and devastated by the horrific attacks today," Mr Trudeau said in a statement.
"Those responsible for today's abhorrent attacks must be fully brought to justice."

As news of the stabbings broke, a dangerous person alert was sent to all mobile phones across the provinces of Saskatchewan,
Manitoba and Alberta - an enormous region almost half the size of Europe. A state of emergency was declared in the James Smith
Cree Nation - a community of about 2,000 residents north-east of the village of Weldon, which is home to just 200 people.

"Do not leave a secure location. Use caution allowing others into your residence," Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police
(RCMP) warned people across the search area. Numerous checkpoints have been set up and drivers have been urged not to pick
up hitchhikers. There is still no word on a motive for the crimes.

Rhonda Blackmore, Commanding Officer for Saskatchewan RCMP said that some people may have been targeted, while others
are believed to have been "attacked randomly". The relationship between Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30, is
unclear, and the authorities have so far provided no further details.

At a news briefing on Sunday evening, police said there could be more injured people than the 15 they already knew about, who
had taken themselves to hospital...'

Why would anyone stop them? Too risky in Canada, because then the manhunt is on YOU. Trudeau has stated, right out loud and in public, that Canadians have no right to defend themselves. well I would say that is a problem that needs to be rectified .... to balance the idea of justice with the realities of the world is becoming more problematic for anyone who knows anything 

A society should exist to protect the weaker among them...if not done then what was once called a society is nothing more than a dictatorship of laws for the elite while the masses suffer injustice.

How Canada and other countries have allowed themselves to descend into their individual hell holes without a fight is sickening, yet I understand as for many people comfort and security outweighs freedom.

I'm just relieved that they didn't use those evil guns to commit murders. It's proof positive that Trudeau's dictatorial unilateral banning of guns in Canada is working! Just as happened in the UK and Australia, among other places, when you ban those evil firearms, citizens will stop using them to murder one another, and find other, more creative, kinder and gentler ways to commit mayhem! Criminals, on the other hand, true to their neanderthal natures, will still cling to their firearms and forego the New Normal of slicing and dicing.

This is what the Progressive future looks like - a reversion to the medieval method for dispatching troublesome victims, cutting and gutting with blades, rather than the more barbaric and relatively quicker death of a bullet to the brain pan... and still, weapons are addressed and the underlying and actual problem of human violence goes entirely ignored.

I fear we may never know the true answer as it's now being reported that Damien Sanderson has been found
dead with 'injuries that did not appear self-inflicted'. One may suggest the resolve of this violent attack is being
dealt with 'in-house'.

Canada stabbings suspect Myles Sanderson dies after arrest

'The suspect in a stabbing spree in Canada which left 10 people dead and 19 injured has died after being captured by police.
Myles Sanderson, 32, experienced "medical distress" after the arrest on a motorway in the province of Saskatchewan following
a high-speed chase and died later, police say. They gave no details. An unnamed official earlier said that Sanderson died of
self-inflicted injuries.

Ten victims remain in hospital. Three are in a critical condition.
It is not clear what prompted Sunday's mass killings which encompassed 13 separate crime scenes. Both suspects - Myles
Sanderson and his brother Damien, 31 - are dead. Most of those killed in the rampage - and the suspects themselves - were
from the James Smith Cree Nation, an indigenous community.

Police found Damien's body on Monday and are investigating whether his brother killed him. "This evening our province is breathing
a collective sigh of relief," Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said on Wednesday night. She said police had received a
report earlier in the day of Myles Sanderson stealing a vehicle from outside a property. The householder was not injured during the
theft.

Police gave pursuit as Sanderson fled at speeds of 150km/h (93mph).
They forced his vehicle into a ditch and officers found a knife in the SUV as they arrested him, said the police chief.
He was taken into custody at around 15:30 local time (21:30 GMT) and taken to a hospital in Saskatoon, where he was pronounced
dead, she added.

News of Sanderson's capture came soon after an alert was sent to Canadian mobile phone users warning people near the town
of Wakaw to "seek immediate shelter/shelter in place" because a man armed with a knife had been seen driving a stolen white
Chevrolet Avalanche in the area.

CBC News reports that Sanderson had broken into a woman's rural property at around 14:00 local time on Wednesday.
The woman spotted Sanderson walking up to her front door, so she locked it and took refuge in a bathroom in her bedroom, her
son told the Canadian broadcaster. Sanderson kicked down the front door and went into the bedroom, telling the woman he would
not hurt her and asking her to come with him, but she refused, according to her son.

The suspect took the woman's car keys, along with her mobile phone, water and a soft drink and cigarettes, the son said. The woman
called police through a landline, reports CBC. Earlier on Wednesday, the parents of the brothers had appealed for their surviving son
to turn himself in. "I want to apologise for my son, my sons," their mother said in an interview with CBC News.
"We don't know the whole story, but I want to apologise to everybody that was hurt and affected by this terrible situation."
Myles Sanderson had been facing charges of first-degree murder.

Canada's parole board said on Tuesday that it would review why he had been released early from prison while serving a four-year
sentence for several violent crimes. In February, the board said he would "not present an undue risk" and that his release would
"contribute to the protection of society" by facilitating his rehabilitation.

Saskatoon police earlier confirmed they had been searching for Myles Sanderson since May, when he stopped meeting his assigned
caseworker and was classified as "unlawfully at large". Parole documents show he had a decades-long criminal record, including 59
criminal convictions since he was 18 for assault, threats and robbery.

According to court papers, Sanderson had stabbed two of the victims killed in Sunday's rampage - his in-laws, Earl Burns and Joyce
Burns - seven years earlier. "I want to know the reasons behind the [parole] decision," Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino told
reporters. "I'm extremely concerned by what occurred here."

At an emotional news conference on Wednesday, relatives of the victims spoke of their "horror". Mark Arcand, chief of the Saskatoon
Tribal Council, said his sister, Bonnie Goodvoice-Burns, died protecting her three children.
"One of the young boys was hiding behind a highchair watching the whole thing happen," he said...'

The violence of street justice in the third world is so terrifying that some elements of crime are beyond consideration.  Being mobbed, beaten and ridiculed ... before being set on fire and burnt to death in the street ... is truly an eye-opener. The international organization responsible for creating merchant category codes for credit card purchases has given its approval to establish one for transactions made at gun stores.

The International Organization for Standardization’s Registration and Maintenance Management Group met on Wednesday to discuss a request made by Amalgamated Bank to set up such a code.
An ISO spokesperson told The Center Square that RMMG members could not decide whether to approve the application. That elevated the discussion to the ISO leadership that oversees standards for retail financial services.
“Considering the application met all the criteria from ISO 18245 and no material arguments pertaining to the approval criteria outlined in the ISO 18245 standard to reject the code were made, SC9 leadership has approved this MCC application in order to comply with the standard,” the ISO said in a statement provided by Maria Lazarte, the organization’s team leader for media and engagement.
That decision came less than a week after New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Attorney General Rob Bonta sent a letter to chief executives at American Express, Mastercard and Visa, urging them to support a merchant category code. They called for the code, noting that other industry-specific retailers have their own codes. The attorneys general also said it could help identify suspicious activity that could prevent a mass shooting or stop gun trafficking.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, on Wednesday morning, also tweeted in support of an MCC.
“Together we can help stop gun trafficking & keep New Yorkers safe,” she posted.
Opponents of the measure included the National Rifle Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
In a statement to The Center Square, Mark Oliva, the organization’s managing director for public affairs, slammed the move, saying the creation of the code was “flawed on its premise. Those who believe it will help law enforcement do not provide details on what should be considered suspicious purchases."

“This decision chills the free exercise of Constitutionally-protected rights and does nothing to assist law enforcement with crime prevention or holding criminals accountable,” he said. “The Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics consistently shows in their own reporting that 90% of felons convicted of their crimes involving a firearm admit they illegally obtain those guns through theft or trading on the black market. Attaching codes specific to firearm and ammunition purchases casts a dark pall by gun control advocates who are only interested in disarming lawful gun owners.”
Oliva added supporters of the MCC actually hope to stop purchases of guns and ammunition through credit cards.
“Credit card companies have previously publicly resisted this because they understand it is not in their interest to monitor lawful private purchases,” he added.
It’s uncertain at this time when the MCC would take effect.

American Express, through a statement provided by Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications Andrew Johnson, said that it will follow the standard business practices, as it does anytime the ISO develops a new MCC.
“It is important to note that MCC codes are one of many data points that help us understand the industries in which our merchants operate,” the statement read. “We are focused on ensuring that we have the right controls in place to meet our regulatory and fiduciary responsibilities, as well as prevent illegal activity on our network.”
Messages to James, Hochul, Mastercard, Visa and Amalgamated Bank were not immediately returned.
