Massive Rogers outage impacting cellphones, internet and debit payments across Canada
#1
I've warned about this for years. I suspect cyber warfare, if not, it's no better if it was caused by human error.

Once again, keep cash on hand and having a landline, not sure, but a prepper redundancy that may not get hit by cyber attack would be worth while. I figure land lines are just as vulnerable because of network interconnections and computer controls of relays and such, so good luck when you need to call the police or emergency services.

Telecommunications giant Rogers is experiencing a massive outage on Friday morning that is impacting wireless, cable and internet customers across the country.

The outage began some time in the early hours of Friday morning, with a wide variety of services impacted . . .

Even services not directly controlled by Rogers, such as emergency services, travel and financial networks, are impacted.

Debit payment services are interrupted. "A nationwide telecommunications outage with a network provider … is impacting the availability of some Interac services," a spokesperson for Interac confirmed to CBC News.

"Debit is currently unavailable online and at checkout. Interac e-Transfer is also widely unavailable, impacting the ability to send and receive payments."

. . . The Toronto Police Service tweeted that Rogers customers in that city were having trouble connecting to 911, but stressed that the 911 service itself was working properly, as long as you aren't calling from a Rogers-affiliated device.

There may be something else at play here. Four to five weeks ago. Verizon, Cricket, AT&T, T-Mobile and Infinity went down in some places.

I wonder if any of this has anything to do with all the newly placed purple street lights, going up all over the place around here. And I live way out in the woods. It is not like there are very many people out walking country roads at night. They did put in a huge solar farm out here in the middle of nowhere. There is that.

On our main road we have lights that have been there for over 20 years, and they are fine. Yet all the new street lights they have put up are purple.

I have heard all the reasons being given for this phenomenon, none of them hold water. Even if it is not related, something is off.

Kind of hard to make a call on this one without more information we will never see.

It could just be something broken. It happens. Software failure. Server goes down. A company looking to cut corners and weakens the system.

It could be external interference. Cyber attack as mentioned. From whom?

China? Russia? Non-governmental entity?

Or is it something more tin foil hat-ish? A warning? A test? Something part of a larger campaign?

The land line and cash on hand are always good advice.

I have thought about this a time or two. I am not sure about landlines. They have failed me in every big storm we have had here in Florida. Living in the woods puts us at the end of the list for service. With our last big storm, we were without phone service for three whole months. Taught me I could live without it. Electricity has been just as bad in the past, but they just reinforced our system this year, so it will remain to be seen, how stable the electricity will be.

My family knows where I am. It will be their job to get here. I have told them all, if the SHTF, act like my house is Mother Abigail's, and for them to get their behinds here as quickly as they can.

I live in Ontario.. Rogers has been out all day so far. The reactions of all the coworkers with no phone access was priceless!!!!!  They looked so lost. I do not own a smart phone(and never will) it's amazing how much control the phones have over their lives. I live a simple life landline, COH etc etc

Testing for reactions seems to be at the top of the list, imo.
One of the critical pieces of "their" plans, across the board, seems to be tracking everyone...and, if "they" cannot 'see' everyone via "their"/their personal tracking devices (cell/smart phones), imagine all the mischief that could be had during such outages...

I hadn't thought about that.

The only problem I have with that idea though, is we live in the woods.

I can see how it may aide in tracking of those in the city. There are so many people per inch, that being able to hone in on people, even those without cell phones, would be like a walk in the park.

There just is not that many people out here yet. Even with drones all you would get is maybe some movement signal under the canopy. If we ditch our phones, I don't know how useful that would be to them.

Heat signatures maybe? Purple lights may give greater clarity. HD night vision?
