What you're watching
#1
So I figured I'd try to make a thread that could just be an ongoing place for people to talk about he current shows or movies they are watching.

I know that most aren't maybe watching as much as some or that what they are watching may not be current, but it's just a dump box, if you will, to just throw out a post to say what you are watching. I'm sure that others will either be interested in it for recommendation purposes or for up to date discussions if they are watching the same.

I just figured it might be nice to have a thread going instead of random shoutbox discussions(which I am most guilty of).

So, let the other rouges know what is actually decent out there when it comes to TV/Movie entertainment.

I'll go first.

I just finished stranger things season 4, i"ll paste my shoutbox comments bellow.

"Well, just finished up watching the latest stranger things, don't know if anyone else is on this, but it's pretty good. I was a little bummed to see that part 2 or season 4 was only 2 episodes(compared to the first part being 7), but that was quickly forgotten when I saw the last 2 where basically movie length. The final episode being one fo the longest single episodes in history at 2 hours 22 minutes. I get why they did what they did. The last 4 hours of this series could not have been broken up much more than the two parts. You really had to sit down and commit, even the final episode couldn't have been split, just about 2 hours of it was entirely on the edge of your seat. They did a hell of a job with it(the brothers). So rare these days to see actual unspoiled talent being let to do their thing without going through all the oversite commities filled with talentless hacks trying to push this or that. Just good writing and a great story meant to just entertain the hell out of you."

"For those that never bothered with this show, I can kind of see why. Something that seemed to initially come of as a coming of age spielberg esque 80's show, it was kind of misrepresented. It did feel that way at first, but then it morphed into something much more John Carpenter or even Cronenberg esque. It's filled with classic trops like. MK Ultra, psycic powers, alternate dimensions, government black ops and horror elements. It's written very well and most importantly tells the story through the eyes of characters you really care about. It is and probably will forever be, the single greatest accomplishment of netflix(and I l'm a huge witcher/henry fan)."

Other than that, I'm also watching The Terminal List, which seems to be pretty good from the first few episodes.

On my plate is a rewatch(possibly the 3rd or 4th) of AMC's Halt and Catch Fire, because talking about it(recommending it) to ETMN has rekindled my love for that show.

So, chime in, let us know what you are watching, you might be surprised who else has gotten into what you are just now watching and might enjoy some discussion.

Not all(pretty close though) media is garbage.

Not much I can recommend from over here.  Mostly this time of year it's reruns of sitcoms and old movies.  So I put the headphones on and watch science stuff on You Tube.   I do like cooking shows especially watching those chefs that travel and amateur fishing shows.

I'm pretty boring really when it comes to media.

Kind regards,

Believe it or not I did watch 'stranger things'   My daughter put it on the screen when she came to stay.  Didn't mind it at all except the last 2 episodes were dragged out and I actually fell asleep during one of the monologue scenes in the last.  But okay.

My wife and I did binge watch one wet afternoon a series called "Wayne".  Bout a kid and chick getting together.  Some intense violence but great characters and scenes.  Story was fine and the shows keep moving without much pause.

Bit like Pulp Fiction with young kids.  Funny at times.

Kind regards,

Bally :)

I am having difficulty with "Stranger Things". I really liked the first one, but having a bit of trouble keeping my interest.

"Bloodline" is another one I have to be in the mood for, but I am almost done with "Night Sky".

No, not because it reminds me of my online name.minusculebiggrin

Just finished marathoning the whole season of "Under the Banner of Heaven" on Hulu. It's a crime drama set in early 1980s Utah revolving around the Mormon culture at that time and their policy of covering up anything unflattering to the church, patriarchy and gaslighting their women literally to death in this case.

We are also watching "The Old Man" (Jeff Bridges as former spook on the run) and recently finished marathoning Season 1 of "The Bear" ( relatable for anyone who has worked in the restaurant biz as I did for years). Both are also on Hulu, they seem to have some of the best series these days.

Watching, "the Old Man" as well.

It's like "RED" only more drama-y.

Yeah. I am watching "The Old Man", also.

I like it so far.

Just finished "Night Sky". I enjoyed it, but it is going to have to take a second season to even come close to knitting together all the loose end. It definitely leaves more questions than answers.

Fantastic thread idea, Mr Spock! Been watching the "The Old Man" - great spook show thus far. Noted both writers (Robert Levine & Jonathan E. Steinberg) also wrote episodes of the show Jericho.

I'm currently watching "Halt and Catch Fire" (on season 3) and have really taken to that show. I did not like Bosworth at all, but later on that changed. My kind of hang-out guy. I'm quite attracted to Gordo's wife, Donna (not sexually mind you), but her personality & brains. That MacMillan character I just want to punch in the face everytime. LOL.

My all-time favorite show (aside from Breaking Bad) is The Wire (2002-2008) and was the most addictive show I've ever watched to date. Really sad that show ended right before Obama took office. Binge watch all 5 seasons and you'll never be the same again.

I watch quite a few documentaries, especially now during the summer, when a lot of my favorite shows are just reruns. I just got done watching one on HBO, Endangered, about journalists and what they go through. It was really riveting. I have so much respect for journalists.

I like watching documentaries on Netflix too. They have some pretty good ones. The Q one was really good. I also enjoy watching documentary series regarding drug runners and all the ways they get drugs into the country. For some reason, I'm fascinated by that.

I binge watched the limited series "The Queens Gambit". I know nothing about chess, but after watching this series, now I want to learn to play chess! It was a really good series, very haunting and riveting. I recently watched the movie "Spencer" on Amazon Prime. It was a pretty weird movie, but Kristin Stewart was absolutely phenomenal in it! It was eerie watching her as Princess Diana.

I'm looking for a good series to binge watch. Since I have Netflix, I'll check out "Stranger Things".

Jericho was a good one, that's an interesting tie in. I've been finding the old man to be pretty well written.

Joe is an interesting character, he's certainly very unlikable, but in the end I think you'll like him. Even the worst people, when put in or exposed to certain situations can be dragged into actually being a somewhat decent human being.

I walked away from that show, liking each character, some more than others. Bos, was the best because he wasn't just the older figure, he really seemed to be the most selfless. He put his butt out there when he had little to gain.

I rarely watch anything that is younger than about 40 years old, 50 or 60 is more like it generally. Nor do I watch many movies any more since Paramount sent me a nasty letter telling me they didn't want me watching their shit any more, and I have no idea which movies are Paramount properties and which ones are not - so I just don't watch most of them at all. That did pretty much ruin Star Trek for me, since it is currently a Paramount property. I don't watch it, in any incarnation, any more... and I used to love that show.

I've never even heard of most of the shows y'all are mentioning here, and have no idea what they are about or whether I'd even want to watch them, nor do I have any notion where I'd find them if I ever did want to watch one.

I can't sleep in the quiet. If I try, I hear every little sound outside and I'm up trying to check it out to make sure It's not the King's Men coming for me. So Grace keeps a TV on all the time I sleep, usually on some kind of cooking show. That serves double or triple duty - she likes watching them, it maintains enough noise to drown out outside noises for me, and, as an added bonus, I find them boring as hell, so I can go right to sleep with them on without developing an undue interest in them.

Diogenes was eating bread and lentils for supper. He was seen by the philosopher Aristippus, who lived comfortably by flattering the king.

Said Aristippus, ‘If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.’ Said Diogenes, ‘Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.’

I watched "The Queens Gambit", quite a while back.

It was one of those shows I never would have watched, if I had not started watching at a friend's house.

It did not sound appealing to me. Then, I starting watching it and could not stop.

I judge a show by whether I would watch it again. I would watch that one again.

If you like documentaries, I think you would enjoy "Gaslit".

It is not a documentary, but it has that kind of feel.

I was never a fan of Julia Rodgers, but she did one hell of a job playing Martha Mitchell. She could get an award for that one.

Breaking bad was great!  I never wanted to give it a try because I just had a bad impression of it.  But once I started in I was hooked.  I also really liked Better Call Saul too.  Watched it for a while after finishing Breaking Bad but got bored with it.  Then just recently started watching it again until the episodes I could watch suddenly ran out.  I can't seem to find season 6 without either paying for each episode or subscribing to yet another premium channel- something I am loath to do...

The wife and I have watched quite a few shows together over the years and they always end and leave us wanting more.  The latest was Dexter.  Another show I had a bad impression of and wouldn't watch until some friends highly recommended to us.  We watched an episode every night and couldn't wait for the next until we watched them all and were left inconsolable when that ended.  Now we're watching Alias, which is okay overall, just a little hokey sometimes.  Oh yeah, for a while Blacklist was our show.  We still try to stay up with that but it's not like it was in the beginning.  The Killing was also a really good show if anyone would like to give that one a look.

So in my ever ending boredom and the search for something to binge. I started watching Atlanta. The only real reason is because I watched Community not long ago and Donald Glover is pretty funny.

So I gave Atlanta a chance, a show created, written and directed by Glover while also staring in it. That combo is usually a sign of an impending shit show and a low budget disaster.

That said, I'm about done with the first season, it's got some good humor to it. Hope it pans out the next few seasons.

I am a weirdo. I don't mind a little humor thrown into a movie or a show, but I don't like most comedies, and I don't like romance movies.

I like dramas, mysteries, thrillers, and sci-fi. But I will watch any genre if it is recommended, as good and worth the watch.

Of course you have to put up with my critique, if I don't like it.

I can't even receive BBC!

But there is a TV channel that does suit my style here in England and it's called 'Talking Pictures'.
It's an archive film and television channel where they show black-and-white movies ranging from westerns
to war films, old TV series like 'The Outer Limits' to my personal favourite 'Public Eye' and comedy movies

Hammer horror is also a feature and they even showed 'Colonel March Investigates' the other night with
Boris Karloff. This was three episodes of a TV series placed together, however one  of the screenplays was

I tend to gravitate around something called "MeTV" over here. It carries things like "Green Acres" and "Hogan's Heros" from the 60's. On Friday nights, early into Saturday morning, it carries the likes of "Petticoat Junction" and the Beverly Hillbillies"- which are what inspired my "idiot hillbilly" persona to throw folks off guard out in the world.

Saturday evenings on MeTV start out with the Three Stooges (1930's to 1950's), and then move to "Svengoolie", who plays old horror films like the Hammer films (or older), the old "Batman" series from the 1960's, into things like "Lost in Space". "land of the Giants", "Voyage to the bottom of the Sea". "the Time Tunnel", the Invaders", and caps out in the wee hours with "Buck Rogers" from the 1980's, I think. Maybe the late 1970's.

Daytimes generally run to old westerns, like "have Gun Will Travel", Bonanza", "The Big Valley', "Maverick", "Gunsmoke" and "The Rifleman".

Sunday night into monday morning carries things like "The honeymooners", "Dick van Dyke", "Mission Impossible", and "Peter Gunn"

I stopped watching "Dr. Who" because he went all woke and turned into a she.

I intersperse that with Fox News "The Five" at 5 PM and "Tucker Carlson" around 8 PM. The rest of the time, it's the travel Channel because, paradoxically, they show a lot of paranormal shows in the evenings. Not sure what those have to do with travel, but there it is.

I no longer watch Neil Cavuto on Fox, because in November or December of last year, he went all whiny bitch and cut Kaley McEnany off in mid sentence. I hate censorship. If he had to censor her, then it's only fair that I censor him.

Mostly, it's all just background noise to keep me from going hyper-alert and running to the windows all the time to figure out what that weird noise I just heard outside was.

I also occasionally watch the British version of "Weeds" and  whatever the name of that show is that has Frank Gallagher and family in it. "Shameless" I think it's called. Both of those have American versions that I have never seen, just because I hate half-assed copycats.

I have about 500 channels on the satellite, and can only find about 3 worth tuning in to.

Ir doesn't help that I can no longer watch Paramount properties since Paramount became a bunch of whiny little bitches and sent me a nasty letter demanding that I no longer watch their shit.
