Lyon shooting: Two dead and two hurt after shooting near stadium in France

'At least two people have been shot dead and a further two injured after a gunman opened fire near a stadium in France.
Four men were reportedly targeted with a hail of bullets close to the Stade de La Duchere in Lyon shortly before 12.30am.
Police believe it may have been an incident between two rival gangs.



Two people were killed and another two were rushed to hospital. According to local reports, one of the two hurt is in a critical
condition. The other is understood to have been shot in the leg. Emergency services were rushed to the scene in Avenue Andrei
Sakharov in the La Duchere district, but it's unclear whether any arrests have been made.

It comes just weeks after four people were injured in a shooting incident in the district. A gunman fired at a group having a
barbecue before fleeing the scene, reports LyonMag...'

Lyon attack: Orthodox priest wounded in shooting

'A Greek Orthodox priest has been seriously wounded in a shooting in the French city of Lyon, officials say.
The gunman fled the scene, sparking a manhunt. A suspect resembling witness descriptions was later taken into custody.
The motive for the attack remains unclear. Authorities have opened an investigation of attempted murder.

The incident came days after three people were killed in a knife attack at a church in the southern city of Nice.
French President Emmanuel Macron called the killings an "Islamist terrorist attack" and deployed thousands of extra soldiers to
protect public sites, including places of worship.

The shooting in Lyon happened at about 16:00 local time (15:00 GMT) on Saturday when the priest was closing his church, officials
said. The attacker, who police said was armed with a sawn-off shotgun, fled the scene.

The French interior ministry said security and emergency personnel were on the scene, and urged people to avoid the area.
In a statement on Saturday night, Lyon's public prosecutor, Nicolas Jacquet, said "a person who could correspond to the description
given by the initial witnesses has been placed in police custody". He added that the suspect had not been carrying a weapon at the
time of his arrest. Investigators are trying to determine his identity.

Lyon Mayor Gregory Doucet earlier told reporters: "We don't know at this stage the motive for this attack." The priest has been identified
as Nikolas Kakavelakis. He is in hospital and is reported to be in a serious condition. The priest is said to have life-threatening injuries after
being shot twice in the abdomen. France Prime Minister Jean Castex said the government was determined to allow "each and everyone to
practice their worship in complete safety and in complete freedom"...'

So I Googled gun laws in France because I was ignorant of them. This is what it said:

Unlike in the United States, there is no right to bear arms in France. To own a gun, you first need to acquire a hunting or sporting licence, and this has to be regularly renewed and requires a psychological evaluation. Applicants with any criminal record are automatically refused.

So it seems to me that pretty much wraps it ups. The shooting must be fake news. All those common sense laws would create an airtight environment where no murder happens.
